In DAO, at least, female dwarves could be quite cute. I would happily have romanced one.

In DAII the female dwarves were beyond cute - they were gorgeous and exemplary in every way. We just never saw a single one of them. Image IPB

It is a closely guarded secret, that in DA3 they are going to reveal that Sandal is actual a female dwarf who has been hiding her identity.

Well, I don't actually hate dwarves. People say I do, however, so it must be true.

Still not interested in making a romance for them, however, though Varric was tempting.

Thank god! Keep it that way!:pinched:

Give us some hope here. Other writers could write a dwarf romance, right? Or do your lead writer's powers create some sort of anti-dwarven zone to the whole romance department?

Personally I don't really see the attraction of tall people. I don't find tallness especially repulsive but it doesn't really knock me off my feet either. The height of a person is pretty much irrelevant to me.

Of course, that means that it shouldn't matter if we ever have a dwarven romance option but I think it should be added just for the sake of inclusion. Right now the DA standard is that only humans (bodybuilder and pornstar like builds) and elves (skinnier, more model-like builds) are pretty enough to love. That's kind of a sad standard to have especially when you have such fantastic personalities like Sigrun and Varric who are very appealing to many players.

I get that having a very short person romancing a very tall person is kind of tricky for game designers but that's no excuse. It could definitely be done if Bioware would just give it some thought.

Oh, you're right! I somehow completely forgot multiple origins. So Bioware already knows how to do it. Animations have become increasingly complicated but that also means designers can do more challenging things with character models. That can't be the problem. It's an issue of values.

In DAO we were allowed to identify with dwarves but not fall in love with them (or at the very least express our emotions like with Aveline). I think it's time to break this pattern and share the love with all races of Thedas.

Naaah, if you really hated dwarves, you would have had the Deep Roads cave in and kill them all. And then the surface ones assassinated by the church because their jerk "God" said so. Or you would have left them out of the game completely.

Face it, you secretly are fond of these lovable shortstuffs.

But... why? Surely there must be some rational reason as to why you feel no desire to even give us one Dwarven romance. Image IPB

*remembers where he's posting*.

But to be serious, should we be able to play as a Dwarf again then shouldn't we be able to have a Dwarven romance to go with it, since Dwarves have a higher fertility rate between each other then they do with interspecies breeding? And that did seem to play a factor in Dwarven mentality, insofar as native Deep Roads Dwarves were concerned.

The closest Dwarf romance we got when playing as a Dwarf in DAO were the two noblehunters, through which we could have sired a child. Or Gorim, if we played as a Dwarf  Female.

Surely you must have some reason as to why it doesn't interest you? Couldn't there be ways that it could help further showcase Dwarven society, both in and out of the Deep Roads? It seems like it'd be great.

Yup. Height clearly doesn't seem to be an issue on why it can't be done.

Although it didn't help how bloody awkward and sometimes comical DAO's romance animations were.

To this day, I still laugh at the memory of when I saw one of my Dwarven Wardens romancing Zevran. It was just too lulz-inducing for me to not be filled with... well.... lulz. But again, that was due to the cheesy romance animations.

Agreed. I don't see why Dwarves should be excluded from being romance options.

I imagine DG isn't interested in a dwarf romance because he (rightly) sees it as open to ridicule. It doesn't matter if it's the most heart-felt, moving love story ever written — a lot of people aren't going to see beyond a tall human and a short dwarf going at it without laughing.

It's one thing for you to play a dwarf and romance a non-dwarf. That's a choice you made. But imagine, if you will, Hawke bending over, picking up Varric and carrying him over her shoulder for a roll in the sack. It's just silly.

I'm not anti-dwarf romance. Hell, I tried thinking up a scenario wherein my Warden could feasibly romance Sigrun. I couldn't do it! I even had sex dreams about Sigrun, and I still get the giggles over the idea. You're probably laughing at that admission, but that just proves my point.

So, since there's always four romance options in the game, how about this: Two humans, a dwarf, and an elf.
Everybody wins.
As long as the elf is a guy.

That's a good point that I never thought of. As appealing as full equality for all might be, it would be a bit... ludicrous.

Yeah. I'm laughing.

Somehow I doubt that any Dwarven Male would be unable to lift a human or elven woman. Or man. They're stocky and very fit -- much of their society has them actually doing things that would make them healthy -- and can probably easily lift a human or Elf.

Now a Kossith.... well that's another matter entirely. But it'd be one interesting romance, to say the least. The tallest non-Darkspawn race on Thedas in a romance with the shortest non-Darkspawn race, known to man.

I mean... they're basically the George Costanzas of Dragon Age. Only... not as neurotic.

I really have enough to contend with regarding giving real-world genders and sexualities equal opportunity in romances without having people imply they've some right to romance all in-game races as well. I mean, come on. If you're keen to romance a dwarf, just say so. It's hardly an issue of fairness.

As for difficulty, it's not much of an issue if we know the relative heights of the models involved. A DA2 romance with Varric would have been simple enough because we know that we have one human and one dwarf involved. We didn't do it because we didn't want to-- or, rather, because we wanted to do the other romances more. End of story.
