Is Dragon Age 3 supposed to "appeal to a wider audience" like this game was?

Just curious, I hadn't seen any news about it in E3.

There's been nothing about it announced yet, it's far too early to tell.

I think (and it looks like Bioware is, too) that rather than sweeping claims that have got them into trouble in the past, it's far better to have something concrete to show. 'Misaligned expectations', as Dr Muzyka put it, are fairly easy when any genuine information is processed through a marketing and public relations machine more complex than the average skill tree.

After all the stuff they said about ME3 which turned out not to be true, silence is the best policy.

They'll probably want to increase the number of people who will buy it, yes.

That's a given. But will they do it by telling people how awsome it is ? Or how it goes back to the roots of the DA series?

Then they should go back to DAO. DAO sold about double of what DA2 did, so it obviously did something right.

Nah.  My Little Pony.  That's where the Eluvian leads.

It is a sad commentary that anyone that is in this forum would even know the names of a Little Pony ((I am assuming that is a name of a pony, before now, I had assumed it was just called My Little Pony)).

I have little sisters and I helped babysit a family friends daughter. They kind of make me watch My Little Pony with them, and my friends accuse me of being a brony because I know about the show. I just want to hit my head on the wall.

But yeah, it can be a sad commentary, but everyone is different with different circumstances. One person will know more about one thing than another based on their own merits, whether personal study, education, or world experience, so that removes the sad part of the commentary.

Nothing sad about it. To echo @dragonflight288 - A person could simply know details about something or have an appreciation for an abundance of different fandoms, across multiple genres. I have friends who enjoy MLP, Dragon Age, Star Wars and a host of other things - and I think all the more of them for the range of things they feel passionately about.

So perhaps we should not disparage those who may enjoy other genres.

One does irritate One so, making One have to stae the obvious yet again sales figures and awards are not idicators of quality or a good direction as they do not take into account returns or used sales which clearly means some people who bought it new were unhappy and some who played Jade Empire and BG say say DAO is to simplefied and childish so YMMV

+1 from me too.

Not interested in being part of some elite RPG-er master race. Only interested in being me. If my likes happen to match up with someone else's, that's where places like the BSN are for. The fact that we all have different tastes in entertainment shows that Dragon Age is already a franchise that's accessible to many different types of people and doesn't need any core alteration in order to be successful.

Do not mean to build a quote pyramid here, but I am not very verbose today, and you said it better than I could have,

No it just means that the casual market treats gaming as a sort of extended rental with a £10 loss. You know only a small % of people replay games right ? Those that don't have any intention of doing so sell them on to get the next game cheaper.

DA2 was a complete fail when you put it against DAO simple as that really.

Origins for larger sales and audience. another DA2 if they want to half the fanbase again, doubt that will bring in the cash though.

Interesting then isn't it that their "appeal to a wider audience" actually made the second game sell less than the original. Perhaps Bioware should stick to what has earned them success and reputation in the past. It's okay, Bethesda seems to love the money I throw at them for making quality games. Sorry Bioware, I don't purchase rushed garbage anymore.

Not much I dislike more than when people try to "appeal to a wider audience" and end up alienating the original fans. Like myself. But, and this is an unfortunate but, it is something I have gotten used to..

These statements are not based in reality. The % of people that replay games is directly associated with how good the actual game is. As an example, I played Origins with over 20 characters and actually purchased it twice including all the dlc. Dragon Age 2? I played it once and never bought a single dlc. Mass Effect? God knows how many times. Mass Effect 3? Once (and will never touch it again).

There used to be a time when you could buy anything with the name Bioware on it and know it was going to be amazing. Now I won't even touch their products unless they score over a 9 on most review sites. The quality is gone. The creativity is gone. All that remains is EA and Peggy at customer support.

Erm, regardless. Peggy deserves a raise. Are you listening, Bioware?

Isn't every game supposed to appeal to a wider audience? Developers/Publishers want to see their games sold...
