With Mass Effect 3, Soldiers no longer have their primary advantage of being able to use any weapon. As a result, it has no specific advantage over the other classes. The original Soldier was a mixture of a tank and a weaponmaster.

Infiltrators can deal more damage with weapons.
Sentinels are better tanks.

So what are they for?

I ran a human soldier last night, successfully, for the first time by using the Harrier. I was able to take down Atlas solo on gold. Only catch is keeping ammo/grenades stocked. Basically you become a burst DPS class with your frags and AR powered gun damage. I had difficulty against multiple mobs and when flanked. Otherwise, it felt like a great single target burst damage class to me.

Soldiers are support units in most cases but I've been in games where they are the heavy hitters for the team and my infiltrator becomes the support. I think it all depends on the players in the room and how they want to play.

Depends on what weapons you use and whats the situation.

It's not the class problem. This game is just to predictable and therefore - rather easy. All you need is to be able to kill enemies fast. This makes other classes more preferable.

Soldiers don't fill a role, they don't really need one. What role does an AA fill? The adept role? The one where they are the "traditional CC" class? Please. They just explode stuff. Or snipe, which ever trend one follows.
And soldiers explode and snipe stuff as well. Just differently. Or just shoot things with weaker guns.

They are more flexible though. If it wasn't for the cloak damage bonus, what other classes apart from sentinels would it make sense to bring falcons? Revenants? Claymores? Striker for examples is tough to use without Adrenaline rush.

They kill stuff like any other class, just in a different way. Roles are given way to much meaning in this game. As are many other things...

Bottom line, nothing bad about soldiers. If you want to play one, do it. If you feel you'd be disappointed - you have way high expectations.

Medium range damage dealing with weapons, concussive shot and AR. Drawing aggro from snipers and power users.

Soldiers can be on par with infiltrators, its more down to the player than class. With AR you are very good at taking down large enemies (Atlas, Brutes, Ravagers, Primes) that are closing in. With CS you can be aggressive and flank enemy mobs. True you need to work more for your kills (do combat rolls and stuff) but if that's how like playing who cares. I hate camping.

This all on Gold.

Soldiers role is same as always, kill every mother fraking enemy that moves with extreme prejudice.
Especially the Batarian Soldier.

Uhhhh.... wut?

I can seriously tear s**t up with Soldiers.
Each race of soldier has it's uses as well.

Turians - DPS
Human - Burst damage monster + semi tank with AR
Krogan - Fire explosion specialist + anti armor
Vorcha - Agile tank + anti armor

Soldiers aren't my best class, but I mostly play them as support/crowd control.

I just try to spread damage around and keep as many dorks as I can slowed down.

I usually get less kills then normal, but it makes it easy pickin's for the rest of the squad if they're playing their role.

The damage bonus from Addrenaline Rush more than makes up for low-ish health&shields. Grenades work to stagger enemies and crowd controlling. Playing a Soldier is like playing a Commando. You're mostly bare-bones since you don't have a lot of shields or a Tech Armor or a Tactical Cloak. What you have is your ability to stay alert and be swift.

For the soldier their role is more based on the race and powers rather than a unified role, such as snipers have.

They all have variety of damage focused powers, around which you can build them.

Right when the Human Soldier was just starting to feel right, they gave the Geth Infiltrator and Drell Adept massive buffs... and added the insane Male Quarian Infiltrator to boot.  Oh, and basically gave away a good deal of Adrenaline Rush's function to Thermal Clip Packs.  :?

This thread again.

Soldier is one of the weakest classes. You can play it, though, and with enough self beatings, you can even get a higher score...particularly if you are in a game with other players not as good as yourself. Hooray.

I play one frequently. Its a lot of fun. But there is no comparison between it and Infiltrators, Vanguards or Adepts. I also really don't think it needs to be changed. Somebody is always going to get the short end of the stick. The important thing is the soldier is fun to play, even if he is a sissy ;)

Soldiers are capable of handling more men. They are also capable of handling situations even more harder and deeper. Make sure you keep popping them Thermal clips and make sure you are behind other teammates. You are best supporting. Not taking it.

Mob kills, soldiers can easily handle any and all mobs with nades and assault rifle buffs. mowing down the front lises as ade[ts and infils destroy the "boss" targets...cept now infils can't even do that anymore... :'(

Isn't the Turian Soldier essentially a walking turret?

all round support. Change up weapons and gear to match the map/enemy. add in a good dose of situational awareness and you'll be invaluable support.

Soldier has no role. This game is infatuated with casters and snipers. However after a lot of complaints, several buffs, and the addition of weapons like Harrier, soldier is finally a worthwhile class. They still don't syngerize at all and they still need a few more buffs namely on their passives (they need a lot more health, shields, and weapon damage).

Take it from me soldier was my favorite class in the ME trilogy and it's a real shame how bad he is in ME3. Every other class got tons of new buffs and abilities where as soldier got nothing new and what he did have going for him (carrying all the weapons for example) was removed.

A Soldier actually synergizes well with Engineers and Sentinels, it's Biotics he doesn't mesh welll with.  CS/PMine/FrGr/Carnage will all detonate Tech Explosions (and Fire/Cryo, though obviously less frequently).  A Soldier can fulfill their main roll of shooting things, while setting off an engineers primed targets.  And in the case of Vorcha/HSold/Krogan, be tank-like and often be great at reviving when no Infiltrator is present for it.

Agreed, the Soldier needs buffs to health/shields (Only 825/825? Needs to be closer to or over 1000/1000). I run with the Human Soldier quite often. I don't excel at every situation, but I can fight in any situation. I struggle with flanks and groups of enemies (that's what the frag grenades are for), but I can slay anything one-on-one.
