The important thing is the soldier is fun to play, even if he is a sissy ;)

Tell that to batarians as they casually walk forward on gold and cut down everything down with BB and infernos.

Kill everything. Krogan soldiers can be specced in a lot of ways and have the tremendous Carnage/Inferno Grenades. Batarians are similar. Humans rely on AR for big burst damage. Vorcha become nigh unkillable with full Bloodlust. Turians have the worst synergy between powers, but can wreck enemies from surprising range with Marksman.

I'd say the hallmark of the soldier has become versatility. You can build them each in a lot of different ways, they have heavy hitting powers and grenades, and they can adapt on the fly to play a lot of roles in a single match depending on the other classes on the team.

There is no roles at all. Each class (player?) has one common role: kill the enemy as fast as possible and do the missions successfully. The difference in classes/players, how to do that. And a soldier can be as good as any other class regarding the common role (i.e killing enemies, doing objectives).

Forget this stupid "role" thing.

Agreed, the Soldier needs buffs to health/shields (Only 825/825? Needs to be closer to or over 1000/1000). I run with the Human Soldier quite often. I don't excel at every situation, but I can fight in any situation. I struggle with flanks and groups of enemies (that's what the frag grenades are for), but I can slay anything one-on-one.

Cool, I thought I was making a mistake with points.  825/825 is pretty weak.  I think the human engie is almost the same.  At least a buff in sheilds or have sheild regen a little quicker.

Uhhhh.... wut?

I can seriously tear s**t up with Soldiers.
Each race of soldier has it's uses as well.

Turians - DPS
Human - Burst damage monster + semi tank with AR
Krogan - Fire explosion specialist + anti armor
Vorcha - Agile tank + anti armor

Batarian?

I would just buff soldiers by making them unaffected by weight capacity (cooldowns will be the same no matter what gun you have), then give the final rank of training 30% more damage for X gun rather than 30% less weight.

Obviously 20% for all or 25% for 2.

Human soldier is a good jack of all trades, vorcha soldier is a tanky close range class that's great at shredding armor.

Turian soldier is a fatty without mobility that can do decent dps with certain weapons and generally get owned by the harder enemy units like phantoms and hunter.

Batarian and krogan are there for the lulz when you want to go crazy with melee, and inferno grenades.

Right when the Human Soldier was just starting to feel right, they gave the Geth Infiltrator and Drell Adept massive buffs... and added the insane Male Quarian Infiltrator to boot.  Oh, and basically gave away a good deal of Adrenaline Rush's function to Thermal Clip Packs.  :?

Soldiers got buffed as well with the grenade gear item and new thermal clips.

A Human Soldier can say "**** it" and launch 5+ Frag grenades and a triple claymore shot.

That would either making retardidly OP(if the CD:S are same or very close to the current +200% reduction) or nerf them to oblivion(if it wasn't close the the current +200% reduction)
So hell no.

i still think soldiers should be able to use ammo powers AS a power and not a consumable.. would be cool but would kind of negate the whole consumables thing xD.. also would be tricky to balance people that still use them

The role of the soldier is to kick ass.
