I play the series for the characters. If they're all gone, I have no investment in whatever they have planned for the Mass Effect franchise.

That's not how Evolution works. :|Arcian wrote...

No, the point is that synthesis brings life to the terminus of evolution, beyond which it cannot evolve further. If a thing cannot be improved upon further, it has been perfected - not stagnated.

From what we've seen in the Synthesis ending, it seems the Bioware writing staff should also read The Origin of Species. Maybe we'll get less nonsense in future games.
Oh, and be sure to avoid the version Ray Comfort... molested.

We could be like Imperator making decisions on which races to harvest or exterminate. Harvest is like the Paragon choice and total genocide is Renegade. Also in conjunction with Tech and Biotic attacks there could be a new Taunt Tree. Like where insult the NPCs into submission with arrogant declarations of no basis. Either way the main point of ME4 should be to put little Green Stars on everyone's belly's so we can all be the same. Also a really interesting plot twist could have the Reaper Imperator actually turn out to be Cmdr. Shepard.
See what happens is like a wormhole opens right after ME3 in the Extended Cut due to all the plotholes in the time continuum that allows Sovereign and Saren to return from the past. And Shepard gets like melted into a Reaper via a cutscene. Only this time you must romance Saren to prove you love him and stop Sovereign from trying to dismantle the Citadel. (See this is what Sovereign was actually trying to do in ME1!) In the end Sovereign dies again and you restore peace and order to the galaxy.
But wait! At the very end of ME4 we cut to a screen of Corporal Jenkins building a Human Reaper with the Collectors...
To be continued?

Almost as rude of a surprise as ME3.

Next chapter in the Mass Effect universe could have something to do with you playing a Turian during the First Contact War of 2157. Or perhaps a Quarian or Geth during the Morning War some 290 years before Mass Effect 3. Shepard's story arc is over, but there are more heroes to tell great tales about. This has been hinted at several times.

At least none that would make any plot sense.

Indeed. There is no such thing as perfection in biological evolution. Only optimization to the habitat.

Pass.
It was a great ride - but this little kiddie got burned by the carnie folk and the bad food. He won't be going to this carnival again.

It's all up in the air, though. If the EC doesn't deliver as I hope it does, I'll likely gravitate away from the ME franchise.

I think the only time we will ever play as a named character is if BW decide to make a space fighter game starring Joker, or a stealth game surrounding Thane. As for RPGs, I hope that the franchise retains its high levels of character customisation.

I think BW is more likely to make a game set between the events of ME1 and ME3. Not a prequel, but the events of each game from the perspective of a different character. This will probably give them the most flexibility when it comes to characters.

What you can be certain of is that any such mythical game would HAVE to have a protagonist you haven't seen or even heard of...because they have to make the protagonist a character that you can customize as dude, dudette, gay, straight (or neuter). It could NOT be Ashley, Liara, Joker, or even that Hanar SPECTER (zero customizability there). The ONLY acceptable set character possible is that one male krogan on the Citadel in ME2 who was always going on about the fish in the Citadel lake. I'm telling you, this is a winner. He scours the galaxy, goes on side-missions, fights fights, etc, all in the service of finding a fishable pond. Damnit! He wants his fish dinner!
Sadly, there will be no such game.

Could James be the one? Or could it be the child in the ending part where he will be chosen as the new playable character for the new Mass Effect? It is up to the hands of the developers.
I really ended up liking James, but I can't see them creating or using any specific non-customizable character. Well, I should say my preference (if they fix this abominable ending) would be that they didn't, but who knows? Nothing in the game was supposed to be canon, but they created one basic canon ending loosely disguised as 3). All bets are off as to what they do next. They might not even do anything other than give you the choice of 5 characters to play as that all play the same. I think they've gone so far off track, nothing will pull them back now, but I have hope.

Maybe bioware will flip it on us and the next hero will be female the main hero like maleshep is now
And they'll call it "Tomb Raider" and it will be squarely aimed at guys who like to play a girl character so they can watch her @ss and ****** moving around.
