Playing ME3 is like watching a beautiful doe in the forest, and then an ignorant redneck shoots it and guts it in front of you. Then the redneck releases dlc showing you even more of the gutting.

How can the redneck release dlc? The redneck in your metaphor is the fans on BSN, isn't it?

Does this mean that we will see Shepard in Super Smash Bros U?

Hahah, i was actually thinking about that myself. Being on the nintendo platform i guess technically adds a very minute chance of possibility.

Considering a very theoretical ME entry into Smash Bros, i think they'd use someone other than (the player customizable) shepard. Like Liara, so they can focus on attacks that dont involve firearms. Like biotics.

Not like it'll happen either way, but i found it an entertaining thought.

Maybe I'm losing something, but why should I even care if ME3 is coming to Wii U?

Good news but how will Wii U owners get up to speed on what happened in the previous two games?

Same question here.

Same way people who started only with ME3 on XBOX360, PS3 and PC.

They won't.

BEST PLACE TO START THIS SERIES, RIGHT?!

Only the last game for the WiiU. So two more intro comic incoming? More story cuts. Might as well since most of the past choices in those games dont seem to matter in ME3.

This is becoming just a bad joke now. This was EA's idea wasnt it, and they really own you guys now. Enjoy your life under their boot, we certainly wont.

close. ME3 = doe, BioWare = redneck. fans on BSN = horrified bystander.

Jumping in on ME3 without playing ME1 or ME2 means people don't have that context and they're just in it for "bam bam bam shoot stuff". Given how much BioWare have use the defense of "artistic integrity" to defend the ending against those who have complained about it, this step undermines that integrity by saying "our story arc isn't important".

People are always making more of that "artistic integrity" statement.  All that statement meant was they are not going to let disgrunted fans bully the developers into writing a new ending.

No, that's not what artistic integrity means. Artistic Integrity means that there was a vision for a product series, and changing that product would harm the vision. The much maligned ending is the most referenced aspect of this vision, but is not the sole part of the vision. The vision for the product included story climaxes that relied heavily upon previous player knowledge, hence why the entire game was described as "an ending".

YohkoOhno wrote...
My point is not everybody bought or plays the game for the "story".  I personally do.  The difference is, I am not so full of myself that I think everybody plays the way I want to.

That's why they have things like action mode.  You are being very prejudiced by expecting people to play the exact way you want to play.  I'm sure if you ask a developer here they would agree with me that each game can stand alone.  My point is that you are trying to tell other people how to enjoy the game, and that is just as wrong as people getting angry about things like multiplayer or the transmedia for the game.

Fair call.  But it doesn't change the fact that all this is saying "story isn't important". In the Mass Effect series, it was. Or at least, it was supposed to be. That was why the fans loved it so much. If players want a game that isn't about story they will buy a different game. This move, along with other design decisions in Mass Effect 3, attempts to turn the game into something different from the rest of the series.

It'd be like taking Call of Duty and suddenly removing all the shooter aspects, but instead turning it into an adventure game because statistics showed the an adventure game would sell billions of copies. Mass Effect 3 suddenly attempted to cater for action player who didn't care about story, people who wanted to play horde style multiplayer, completely new players and the existing fans. Something had to give. Unfortunately, it was the existing fans that lost out in the equation.

That isn't staying true to an artistic vision. That isn't staying true to the series itself. It's sacrificing major aspect and originally lauded and loved design ideals in the pursuit of more sales and money. I have no problem with a game company attempting to make a profit and increase sales, but they shouldn't do so in a fashion that undermines the original vision of an ongoing product. All that does is lose fans.

How about:

Doe = BioWare
Redneck = Vocal Fans
Horrified Bystander = Me

?

Because that works, too.

Even though I already beat ME3 on 360, I'll probably pick this up on Wii U later this year. I hope there are "origin comics" for ME1 & ME2 on the disc. Graphics won't suffer because the Wii U is actually more powerful than the 360 or PS3, so I'm not worried about that. The Wii U Gamepad has all the necessary buttons and the addition of the touch screen could be really useful for mid-combat shenanigans. Overall, I'm excited about this...I'm just curious how they'll handle missing the previous two games!

For some reason I'm hoping EA buy out the rights for Mass Effect 1 so that it can be ported to WII U and PS3.

Sorry to say it, but Mass Effect 3 on the Wii-U is Epic Fail. Bioware you wanna put a game on the Wii-U fine, but at least make a whole new game that is exclusive to the Wii-U instead of porting over a 360/PS3/PC game.

Honestly, I think that people who want to play ME3 have already bought the game on PC, 360 or PS3.

ME3 on Wii-U ? I can imagine the costs, but I don't see any commercial profit. Big risk, guys.

You know what, this I can agree with 100%. They could've either announced Dragon Age 3 as being a Wii U game as well as for other consoles/PC (just imagine the possiblities of using the gamepad similarly to the mouse for tactical gameplay) or an entirely original RPG (we know you still have it in you). Giving Wii U players the end of the trilogy without all the rest of the context of the series and many of the choices that could be made. They are also limiting romance options back to the trio from ME1 by doing this. So players interested in the others will not be able to access some of the content whastsoever.

It would've been better to show off (even if it wasn't a launch game) a new IP or another RPG (from their stable of games). Heck, a Wii U version of The Old Republic would've been better than this. It's great to see the company supporting the Wii U. It definitely is, but Mass Effect 3 is not the best way to go unless there is something like the Comic from the PS3 ME2, something that will allow new fans access to some of the choices from earlier in the series.

2006:

Mike: Guess what?
Phil: What?
Mike: No guess.
Phil: No you have to tell me what I'm supposed to be guessing.
Mike: Nintendo's latest console is called. Wait for it. Wii.
Phil: You're taking the ****. No one would name their console after a bodily function.
Mike: It's spelt W i i.
Phil: Don't believe you.

2012

Mike: You never guess what.
Phil: What?
Mike: Mass Effect 3 is going to be released for the Wii U.
Phil: Oh come on! Seriously?
Mike: Hell yeah!
Phil: We You?
Mike: No Wii U. There's a difference.
Phil: Not buying it.
Mike: Neither am I. I've got Mass Effect 3 on the PS 3.

I expect DA3 will also be on the Wii U.

I agree that this idea is silly since 3 is nothing without 1 & 2.

BioWare officially makes its debut on the Wii U with Mass Effect 3! We are excited for the opportunity to bring Commander Shepard to the new Nintendo Wii U console. Mass Effect 3 will be coming as a launch title on the Wii U and is expected Holiday 2012.

Stay tuned for updates of Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U.

You're a bit too late. No one is going buy ME3 Wii U version with the ending that still sucks. We want Shepherd alive, not dead and became a myth like Santa Clause! >:-[

So I'm guessing you're a vegetarian then?  Otherwise, insulting someone for hunting and getting food from it seems hypocritical.
