I will start by saying that I love this game. From this single game I have become a BioWare fan.
My favorite part of the game is the epic final battle you play through. All the main quest you play through merge at that point with your armies. Now some can argue about the usefulness of some over others and it depends on what areas you use them in. From what I have read and herd is the mages are the most useful with elves and golems very useful against the Archdemon. Personally I plan on using werewolves over elves and mages over templars. I like Shale and want her to stay in my party so I cannot use golems. Now please don’t miss understand. I am not complaining about the current choices. They rock. Hard. All I want is to discuss possible future choices and I’m curios about what other fans of the game think. I purpose that if the game is truly going to have a two year life span like the creators suggested that you should have a few more choices come along. If not I am satisfied with what you have but if they do here is a few of my thoughts. BioWare, feel free to use them if you read this and like them. I know you don’t need permission since it’s your game but I want you to know that I really hope you do take some of my ideas.
So currently your choices are thus:
Redcilff
Dwarves or Dwarves with Legion of the Dead
Golems (optional army with evil morals)
Mages or Templars
Dalish Elves or Werewolves
Not going into great detail about the moral choices connected to some of those here are my thoughts to make them more epic, but you should stick to only having a possibility of five armies. When more choices are present it should work like this. Once you complete enough quest to unlock 5 armies a cutsence in sues forcing you to begin your march to wars. The places you did not go to cannot send help due to their crisis and/or overrun by darkspawn.
Lets start with the choices that do not have a secondary option. Redcilff and the Dwarves (golems are tied into them). I think there should be a secondary option in there somewhere. With the Redcilff army why not side with the revers cult at the end? I don’t know how it would tie into the previous quest before that but maybe it can work out you can save the Arl but still have the revers. This would of course be an evil option. Now for dwarves. How bout right at the beginning you can either choose to presue the dwarves or another quest entirely. A rouge band of darkspwan that were born close to say the anvil gain some intelligence and you can choose to fight alongside this one band of allied darkspawn if you help them destroy the dwarves. Another evil option. Now without the dwarves you cannot have golems, so in their place you’ll have ogres. Huh?
Now here are a few of my other ideas.
Rangers or Wilders
A conflict in the Anderfalls brings you to either side with the Wilder folk or a band of Rangers. If you side with the Rangers you will get half army of rangers using duel weapons and archery (since the specialization is only for rouges) and a half army of animals like bears, wolves, and spiders. If you choose the Wilders you would have a army of two-handed and archers along with half Mabaris. Why not? All the lore states early Fereldens defeated the Tevinters with only hounds and their obstinate disposition. It would make since if they had war dogs. So either choice will give you humans with animals of some type.
Apostates or Zombies
A village of Apostates is discovered and has had a recent abomination outbreak. You can either help them with their abomination with another quest into the fade to get a second mage army (with a few using blood magic) or team up with the hunger demon who turns the corpses you slay into zombies for a army of devouring corpses. Not much different from the templar mage choice but a different verity.
Blackstone Irregulars Crows
A war for contracts is being waged between the Crows and Blackstone Irregulars. After all that work you did for the Blackstones they owe you! Maybe their could be an option to become their leader and have the Blackstones follow you as a balance over all types and superior armor to say Redcilff. If you side with the crows you get a army of assasings who would be smaller in number but have the special talents of the assasing and the ability to appear behind enemies and backstab them to deadly effect.
That’s all for now. I doubt anything like a extra army will be available anytime soon but one day I hope for it. Feel free to post your own ideas and thoughts about this as well as your own examples. I did not mention any possible effects due to teaming up with these armies or crisis moments with companions. Obviously, Wynne would not follow you if you joined demons or apostates. Zevran would not stay with you if you join the crows. Ogrhen would try and KILL you if you destroyed the dwarves. Ect. Ect. Please post^^
