Against opponents other than rogues? I have a natural aversion to allowing any opponents to get behind me but am I getting hit with a flanking penalty or losing shield benefit?
DO YOU NEED TO WATCH YOUR BACK?

I believe that you can hit enemies easier if you're flanking them regardless of if you're a rogue. Don't quote me on that however.

Yes, your enemies (melee) do get a flanking bonus on you if they manage to get around you. If you are a shield + weapon warrior, you can negate that bonus with shield tactics from the weapon and shield school.
