Dunno, I'd love anything except another Stars of Duty game, that is 10 percent single player and 90 percent multiplayer.
I wouldn't doubt a Mass Effect FPS is in the future, but I hope for more story RPG/Action based Mass Effect games too. We have the First Contact war that could be a game, I'm not usualy one for prequels but that could be fun.

dude the first contact was was like two fights followed by a sit down with the concil the first contact was is the stuff of the 5 hour moden warfare **** that is what we don't want for mass effect. on that note Bioware had a licence to print money with mass effect untill the killed it stone dead with that ending.

They'd have to pull off one hell of an ending to fix ME3. Even without the crappy ending, it still feels like a rushed game, and that's because it is. You can't expect a dev team to create such a complex game with so many variables in the timespan of a year and a half...

Actually, I thought LOTR was a very happy ending. Frodo was an annoyingly stupid character, and the only reason I wasn't rooting for him to join Gollum in the lava-bath is because it would have made Sam sad. I feel sorry for Gandolf though, having to take Frodo with him. He's got more patience than I have, that's for sure.Baa Baa wrote...

/S
But LOTR deserves a happy ending, for those movies I cried or almost cried at least 3 times per movie, just because of how sad it was to see some characters killed off.
And Star Wars did have a happy ending but it certainely wasn't a Disney "everything is good and nobody died" ending. Star Wars ended with Luke's father dying, which is pretty sad, although the rest of it was really cheery and triumphant.
I agree with the OP. There is literally nothing else out there that combined all the elements that Mass Effect did in the way it did, and do it so successfully.
The story was engaging, and was shaped by the decisions you made in the story. And the characters were really compelling, and were so well written and well acted that they felt like real people.
Both of those things draw you into the story, but it's the combination of a fully customizable player character that is also fully voiced that I think makes so much difference. There are some games that let you customize your character, but the character doesn't have a voice. That means you're just reading text on a screen or something, and that takes you out of the flow of the story. There are also games where the player character is fully voiced, but you can't customize it, so it doesn't feel like your character. The combination of the two gives you a connection to your character because you have created a look that you can identify with, and the voice lets you hear the character's emotions, and so it's easier to empathize with the player character, so it's easier to connect with the character.

I remember before ME3 released I had played around 10-15 playthrough's combined of ME1&2 .. Read the Codexes back to Front .. Read some of the Comics etc etc .. I've always had a great desire to play Star Wars games and love the Original Trilogy, but I've never had such a great desire to know everything possible about the world and backstory and whatnot. Mass Effect did that for me (The Witcher Universe is the only other one I've been so extreme about) and it honestly could have become an even better Universe then Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar EVERYTHING.
But yep, now it'll just be remembered as the game trilogy that Culminated in the Upset of ALOT of Fans. Kind of Like the Star Wars Prequels :S Even if the EC Fixes some of the problems, it still won't remove the Sour Taste out of ALOT of people's mouths.
However Tolkein + Peter Jackson's movies = Nothing ever has any Hope of beating them. George RR Martin's books and GOT TV adaption has come close, but still just misses the matching of that epic combination of Storyteller and Director/Writer that is Tolkein and PJ.

It's unique in that it gets passed down from *Generation to Generation* never getting old.
Mass Effect may be a great series (In fact my favorite game series to date) but I don't think it encapsulates an entire generation of gaming...even if they had made an amazing ending.

This amazing triliogy or even most of mass effect 3 won't be remembered for being one of the greatest msot emotionally compelling games and coudl've rivaled that of starwars or lord of the rings but now it will forever be the game that has tore the community apart wether you love the ending or you absolutely hate it
I still think their could've been a way to at least almost be close to satisfy everybody it is a shame that it won't be so
Putting aside the hammy melodramatic tone of the above. No it is not on a par with LOTR, which is the definitive fantasy story which many others are simply imitations, although some books such as Game of Thrones are refreshingly different.
As a sci-fi Star wars encapsulated a generation and it remains a classic shown in the holiday seasons. I'm not an big follower of it, but I still remember watching the original trilogy as a boy on television at christmas etc.
Mass effect meh.. it's a decent game, the storyline and premise of ME1 was good, ME2 it was okay, ME3 it was good but it had problems and could have been better. As a trilogy outside the RPG community it's never really gained any significant following, rather the headlines more a cause of the rage eminating from the playerbase rather than due to outside criticism of the approach taken on a "great" franchise.

Actually, there are comparisons to be made. ME1 was naive and a bit rough, but good. SW is the same in many ways.
The point isn't that ME was on a par with these other fan frenzied things, but that it could have been.
No matter the title all of the things listed have had their weaker parts-LotR and SW had some things that people think are cheesy or too sweet. Star Trek (the original series) did too along with a low budget and so on.
As far as gaming goes, ME was something that stood out, and no it would never appeal to someone who like sports games or FPSs without all that story stuff, but it forged its own way and was a diamond in the rough. Bioware had the makings of a real ME empire, with endless story lines as possibilities.
The other franchises listed, no matter what warts they have, did it right, they got it right. They hit the notes people needed at the time. Just like Titanic did. What's cheesier than it? But, did it work? Yes. It still does.
The problem is everyone looks back on movies and such using their memory. You look at LotR and think, boy Frodo was sappy. But, movies are meant to be watched. You start at the beginning and hop on the ride. By the end, you tend to buy into whatever sappiness is there and become a fan, or you don't. The vast majority of people that saw the LotR movies were fans at the end. I am. And yet, if I sit and just think about one part of it, I might say it was too sappy. If I do go back and watch the movies, I won't end up thinking that way.
Star Wars was the same way-A New Hope. It was tongue in cheek and always done with a little smirk. So, the ending fit all that. If you watch the movie, you get it. Just look at Harrison Ford's face-he is smirking a bit, so you find it funny and awkward like he does. You are supposed to. But that doesn't take away from the good story, the clear story with heroes and villains and reluctant heroes and the non-traditional female in distress.
The last point is something that SW brought into the mainstream and it paved the way for Ripley in Alien. Princess Leia was capable and not waiting to be saved even when she needed help. Eve owes her. But, all people can think of is that somehow the award ceremony ending and the happy ending feel of it is cheesy. SW wasn't ever supposed to be a serious expose on war. It was a story. And I think an awful lot of people liked it because it was and still is extremely successful. Art for the masses.
ME had that opportunity. It could have and maybe still could forge a new direction for video games. Just think if people had been going crazy over how wonderful the ending was, what would now be happening in video gaming. Well, just like after SW came out, every company would be scrambling to see how they could make something similar but better.
Even now, there are companies that are trying to prove they could do this and give fans what they want and they are out there telling fans they appreciate them. So, this whole debacle could have some positive repercussions. And maybe just maybe Bioware will prove they learned something too.

This also brings account into the ems score and the moral bar with renegade and paragon
Why can't the all renegade person get the sad sacrifical ending or a sad ending but maybe not as sad depending on your ems
But a all Paragon player who has always tryed to help others and has always done pretty much what alot of us would consider to be the right thing and with max ems why can't shepard truely beat the reapers reunite with love interest rebuild their world and live the rest of his or her life in happyness
It just seems like a waste of the moral meter and the ems meter and players not keeping up with choices they've made all along and not being able to choose how they want it to end when essentially the story or certain events or decisions have been made by the player
I just feel with a passion that if everybody could've gotten the ending they wanted their wouldn't be such a big backclash between people who love the ending or not and their wouldn't be so much hostility right now

There's always going to be some conflict somewhere. It's an unfortunate reality. People for some reason seem to feel the need to appear superior. They are often not satisfied in letting their actions prove their worth, instead they think in insulting someone else they can make themselves look better. it has the exact opposite effect. We've all been guilty of saying things we shouldn't. We all can find reasons for why we did, but they are excuses.
Whenever we use words to describe a person rather than to point out a behavior we fail in some ways to be decent. More often than not it's best to ignore the offender. But we've all taken the bait at one time or another.
As far as ME goes, part of the problem is people won't really listen to each other. Everyone has their own idea of what's right. I know there are a lot of us that read everything people say in our favorite threads and we don't comment on something we think someone said without reading what they did say. Others just like to poke "fun" (insults) at people. They should be ignored, always.
People are people and often we just focus on our differences rather than seeing that we are more alike than we are different.
This is true with ME as well. We are all fans. Most all of us "love" or have "loved" ME. Those of us that hate the ending, wanted better things. Even some of those that think the ending is ok, don't really love it, but they think it's ok. Others like it. And that's fine. But problems begin when someone thinks the issue has been solved (because they are making the EC), but it hasn't because the EC isn't here and what they've said it will be is insufficient.
For some reason as well others who are happy with the ending don't seem very happy. I know it's not scientific, and I haven't visited a whole lot of threads, and someone could say I am biased, I have noticed that there's an obvioius trend. Most often what I see is someone that seems to like the ending, thinks it's their duty to insult those that don't or to try and tell them off, without any basis.
We are acting as consumers and expressing dissatisfaction with a product. Some have gone about this in the wrong way, but almost every person that says something negative about the ending, is subjected to the nastiest comments, even when they say they love the games and love Bioware. Discussion stops and arguments begin. It is what it is. No one is blameless, of course.
But, it would be nice if you state something, you back it up with reasons for why you think it's true. And then if someone gives reasons for why it isn't, you admit a mistake, or try to really see what they are saying, instead of just heaping on insults. You can't have a discussion if only one party is participating.

As it is, if I say I wish there was a chance at a happy ending, someone throws me into a pile with people that just want bunnies and unicorns. They haven't heard what I've said. Not only that, but they feel the need to tell me just how immature I am for wanting to see Shepard be happy.
If the devs had really just continued to do what their fans expected, they would have been fine. I don't mean making a predictable ending, but I mean recognizing that some people cared about the characters and wanted happiness at some point, others saw the fight as the big thing and wanted to see their war assets in battles-Krogan on dino back. Others just wanted to send a missile up a reaper butt, and others were looking for a possible bad ending-a true failure, because that might mean replaying would be a real fight against that happening again.
They so could have gotten everyone together discussing what they did to get a certain ending and how awesome each playthrough was. It would clearly be a lovefest, not this kind of "I know better than you," thing that goes on now.

You have to be daft to think Eragon Quality Sci-fi writing made from a Kotor spiritual successor is considered the Star Wars of the generation.
