"In peace, vigilance."
So begins the pre-development of my first major Dragon Age Campaign: Wardens of Nevarra. Now that I have learned the toolset, I have finally found a decent idea for my module.
Theme: The theme that will drive the story writing process for WoN is a focus on choices, and the certainty that the player must seek victory over the darkspawn, even if it means commiting otherwise immoral acts. The player is a Grey Warden, no compromise must be made when the darkspawn threaten Thedas.
Story/Setting: The land that the story will take place in is my take on Nevarra, from the DAO codex. It won't be the same as BioWare and D. Gaider's plan for Nevarra, but it will be more than just a static backdrop. By choosing a land in Thedas, there's already a whole world around the player, that can draw them in as Ferelden has.
The events of WoN take place at about the same time as the Blight is ended in Ferelden. There will be refrences to the Blight, but there will be no "canon" or "quasi-canon" choices from DAO. The darkspawn are still a threat in WoN, though. The Wardens in Nevarra will have to find the cause for the darkspawn rising without an Archdemon to lead them.
Companions: Companion loyalty will be a major feature of the party members. There can only be a small number in the party at a time, and not all companions will get along. These companions aren't just allies of necessity, either. Their loyalty depends on how they are treated and how their subplots are resolved.
Choices: Choices will be a major theme for the critical path. Unlike some situations in DAO, there will be no "optimal" path. There will hopefully be some decisions that are tough to make, maybe even as a player.
This project is just getting started, so don't expect anything special from me for a while. I can be lazy.
When the story draft is written and I have my plan set out, I may request help for level design and such. Until then, post ideas for any part of the campaign in its project discussion thread. I will post a link here once it has been set up.
