Topic basically. I want to be able to switch between tank
and caster as I feel like it, and I was just wondering which would be best for
this.

Sentinel

Barrier + Tech Armour is best for the combined defence.
Any of the three tanking powers (fortification, defence matrix and barrier) would do.

But if you choose barrier you'll get two awesone dominations (one from tech armour the other from barrier).

Choose defence matrix you'll get buffs to tech powers.

Choose fortification you'll get buffs to your melee damage (which is great for the close quarters sentinel)

You have warp and overload, so I wouldn't bother with Reave or Energy Drain. Besides the brief hardening you get from reave can't compare to the constant hardening bonus from one of the bonus tanking powers.

Energy Drain: If you must choose this power (I reserve it for classes that don't have overload) use it instead of overload. Unless you like combining the two for tech bursts.

Either.

If you take Reave you will need to keep casting it to get the DR bonus. The advantage of Reave is that it is instant cast and essentially can't be dodged by the enemy.  You will end up being really tanky as long as you keep casting Reave, which isn't a problem as long as enemies are around.  Either use a squad member to detonate your Reave, or use your Reave to detonate a squad member's power.

With Barrier or Defensive Matrix you will elongate your CD slightly, but if you spam Throw to detonate squad member's powers then it is no big deal because the CD is so fast. Alternatively, you can spec Throw for "reset on biotic detonation" and always use it for detonate so that you can take as many weapons as you want. Kronner did this and called it a Biotic Bomber.

Reave:

Setup biotic explosions (using throw, warp or lift grenade)
Detonate biotic explosions (setting up with warp or lift grenade)

In addition reave can detonate overload and can detonate cryo blast.

Don't know how tech armour explosions fits in this equation.

I was thinking about Reave to set up BE instead of warp because AOE reave and double throw can be used to set of multiple BEs at once, and it can be spammed when TA is on to give 80% DR. I just wanted to see how everyone thought it stacked up to barrier's constant +30% DR.

Keep in mind that Reave doesn't work on Geth so, you're better off using barrier on those levels. Not sure if Reave even works on enemies like Atlas or Turrets.

I believe Reave actually does work against synthetics like geth or turrets, it just doesn't provide you with the damage protection effect.

I think I'm going to go with barrier. I figured up that even with the 140% hit to cooldowns you can still have fast cooldowns if you keep +200% weapon bonus, 50% from armor bonuses, 20% from shadowbroker bonuses, and 10% from Liara's passive you can still get a +140% bonus to cooldowns, which would give warp a 3.01 second cooldown and throw a 1.5 second cooldown. That would be the best of both worlds.

I used both. I found Barrier to be better. Reave is meh when you have throw, warp and overload.

I went with Stasis Bubble on my Sentinel and love it.
