Merrill can't be corrupted by the mirror since she cleansed it of the taint -- by using blood magic to amplify the healing magic she already knew (as established in DAO by Marethari) that was able to combat the taint (and that was in its unamplified form).
Additionally, Anders the Grey Warden doesn't say that the Taint is present in the mirror, when we know that Grey Wardens can sense the corruption in both things and people.
And you can't turn Vengeance back into Justice by fighting him. Doesn't work that way.
I'm not against fighting more Tevinter Mages though, save for Feynriel and any other Magisters that aren't colossal douchebags.

I thought if you give her that last piece the keeper tells you not to then it could corrupt her whoops. That last part agree 100%.The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

Although... I guess it would be kinda cool if, for example, Anders or Alistair thought the new DA3 protagonist 'n' co were "bad guys" and you start to fight them and then it pans to a cut scene where you manage to convince them you're on their side or something. So you still get that "OH SH!T" moment when you think you've gotta kill an old companion and then the relief when you realise that you don't have to/have the option not to.
See, I can see Bioware doing this and I agree it would all kinds of fun, but this is also cheesy and avoids the difficult RP decision. Afterall a new protagonist should have no real reason to care about these former companions (unless Alistair was the king). If you are going to play a new protagonist each game, then I think Bioware needs to give us their perspective. Our protagonist should be intimidated to face off against by the ~legendary~ Zevran or Justice or Isabela or whatever rather than being "Hey Justice, how was it being Kristoff anyway?" I always got a sad smile at the fact that I had to face off against Ajantis in BG2 and there was no way to get out of killing him.
That being said, let me cast a solid vote for this idea: The new protagonist is being hunted/runs into a squad of Grey Wardens only to have to face off against Oghren, Nathaniel, Sigrun and Velanna. I'd have difficulties with that encounter.
And let me just say that I don't think this should be killing for the sake of killing. I do think there are real RP reasons for why these fights might have to occurr within the storyline. But I respect that some people just want the fight for the sake of the fight.
Chances are it'll probably happen, Gaider loves breaking our hearts. I guess what it boils down to is how important the ex companion we have to fight is to the future lore of Thedas. For example, we probably won't have to kill Alistair anytime soon because the canon in the comics and novels is that he's the King so he'll be important in future events (thank ****!) BUT it wouldn't surprise me if they did kill him off in some other way in future DA related installments (be it in-game/the final game or book etc.) Of course, I'd cry like a b!tch but I'll cross that bridge if/when I come to it LOL.
But I agree. If we do have to kill off any of our old companions I'd hope it would be essential to the story and make sense, rather than it be done for shock value.

I would love to kill Sebastian. And Fenris. Wynne possibly too.
You can fight her in DAO.
And if you didn't.... well... you won't ever get the chance to fight her again.
Yeah I have killed her before, but on my canon playthrough I wanted to keep all the companions alive. And I know I wont get another chance, but this just seemed like a good place to post a list of characters I wouldn't mind killing.
Although in Sebastien's case its less "wouldn't mind" and more "actively wanting to murder the backstabbing bastard".

Merril if she turns into mutated abomination. Her blood magic practice will consume her sooner or later, just like the rest of other blood mages except ( the chosen one and plot armored PC ).

Justice probably saved him, the way that spirit saved Wynne in DA:O. Either that or we'll have one rotten looking Anders zombie walking around with Justice's voice!

I've often said this before, but I'll say it again: DA3 will end with Sten -- now having grown a goatee of badassery -- riding a Qunari dreadnought towards Thedas, with a box of cookies under one arm and a box of kittens under the other. He will look towards the screen and say....
"No".

Gaider implied that could happen. Anders is definitely dead if he was stabbed in DAII -- Gaider has said so -- but he did say that Justice/Vengeance could take control of the body now, if Bioware wanted to have Anders show up again. So it'd be either "Anders is alive and fighting with the Mages, but still with Justice" or "Justice is controlling Anders' body completely now."
Whether it would start decomposing, I don't know. I got the feeling that a corpse will decompose if the spirit possessed it after the person died. But what happens if the possession happened before the person died, and the spirit was in full control now?
Would the body still function normally as if it were alive, even though the original soul is now gone?

She has nothing to back up her assumption. She believes that the mirror is still tainted, despite Merrill's proclamations that it isn't -- Merrill tells Marethari that they've been over this before, which seems to mean that Merrill informed Marethari of how she cleansed it.
We know that blood magic can in fact combat the Taint. Just look at Avernus and Marethari's magic in the DE Origin. And we know that Anders doesn't remark upon the Taint being present -- which if it was dangerous, he would've told Hawke that he could sense the Taint in it so Hawke could do the prudent thing.
Since Anders says nothing, we know that it isn't, in fact, tainted any more. Merrill was able to successfully cleanse it by amplifying the healing magic she was taught by Marethari, which as I said was proven to combat the Taint.
Never mind the massive flaw in Marethari's logic regarding what she did to poison Merrill's standing amongst the clan.

Merrill won't turn into an Abomination. She knows well enough how to defend herself.
And Jowan doesn't get consumed by his blood magic, if he wasn't killed. Or Zathrian, who went 3 or 4 centuries while practicing blood magic.
Or Avernus, who also practiced blood magic and had even more dealings with demons -- he actively summoned them -- then Merrill.

If Justice controls Anders's corpse, then it would make it easier to fight since he's no longer human or the ex-companion we once know. It will be a pleasure to kill him again and again just to make Anders fans mad - since we don't play as Hawke anymore. The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

Hawke could easily persuad her, let alone the demon.
That because Jowan rarely practise blood magic in the circle. We don't know how long he can resist the demon had he not been killed or arrested..The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

We don't know much of this guys knowledge and capability. They're way above averagel mages. Both of them live hundred years and study much magic in their years. Zathian is connected to the Lady of the Forest and the cursed of the werewolves. Avernus as a warden is tainted with darkspwan's blood which is unknown to demon. Both of this guys have special properties that need to study further before grouping them together with the rest of bloodmages. The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

Bloodmagic does not corrupt Demons do. Bloodmagic learned without the help of demons through research is MUCH superior.
