If Bioware announced one thing about DA3 that would make you buy it no matter what (if you aren't going to already), what would it be?

It might be more telling to ask what would prevent me from buying DA3. Although, now that I think about it, it isn't a hard question. If I learned that I would be playing a Seeker, indoctrinated to support the Chantry and all it stood for, I would not buy DA3. I can deal with a protagonist with a fixed race and background. Everybody needs a starting point. But I can't abide somebody telling my character what he/she should believe. Yes, hopelessly Western, freedom-loving, etc., but that would be a deal-breaker.

Edit: To be fair, some of my protagonists are quite devout. I just like a lot of RP freedom.

The title "Dragon Age" on the box and the BioWare logo on it. No idea how I've managed to stay active on BSN for this long and still adapt this philosophy - perhaps I'm thick-headed? =)

No DLCs sounds good. Not a fun of mini-content chunks. The return of origins would be great too.

No dlcs, only 1 or 2 very big expansion packs.

Gonna buy it anyway and all the dlcs too. I am weak and bad consumer that way.

This is my fave post, and one I hadn't even considered. But I agree 100%. I will of course buy anyway, pre-order in fact, but instead of smaller DLC I really would like to have a full-fledged expansion. Having 20 hours added to DAO with Awakening was such a great thing for me, and it gives such a great opportunity for main story continuation.

In terms of DLC, if we are going to have them, I would like a mix of separate story (Legacy, MotA) and integrated (Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar) DLC. The integrated DLC (I'm sure Bioware has a special name for these) I really like because they make the default game longer, whereas separate story DLC just feel like additions.

I'm really proud of people in this thread. The single issue I thought was going to be the first criteria of note hasn't even been mentioned yet.

I think this depends on how they are going to work Seeker into the story line, if it's going to be a class, a warrior spec, or only just a required companion. I also don't think they would do that much railroading, but I appreciate your concern, especially as a mage player.

Yeah I'm with those who said they'll preorder it no matter what. I genuinely can't think of a reason that I wouldn't...

Other items that are high on my 'want list':

1. Cullen as a companion. I totally wasn't a Cullen-lover til I joined BWN and started reading his thread/fanfiction
2. Importing saves from DAO/DA2 (I'd be very surprised if they didn't do this...)
3. Voiced protagonist. I know I'm in the minority here but I felt it let me connect with my character better.
4. Radiant companion relationships when they're no romancing the PC. ala Isabela/Fenris in DA2 but done better. If they're going to have the game span a time scale like DA2's it's unrealistic (IMO) to think your companions won't be looking elsewhere...

I'm sure there are more but they're the big ones in my mind. However, like berelinde mentioned, pigeonholing the PC would put me off a LOT. At first when I read that possibility I thought 'nah, they'd never do that' but then realised they did something similar with Shepherd in ME2 by making him/her fight for a cause I never would have had my Shepherd do by working with TIM...

Witcher2 style cutscenes with a female harem.

Seriously though... there is no one feature that would make me buy anything. To even get a consideration the demo is going to have to be stellar.

Ah and there it is. I spoiled it by alluding to it in my thread. Hehe... ;D I think it's a fairly even split really, so I don't think there is a minority. I'm really surprised it took 3 pages for it to be mentioned actually! (I totally don't mean this in a negative way)

I am curious though, how would you have expanded on the Fenris/Isabela relationship? From having romanced both of those, they each have personal issues to work through that affects how they approach relationships. I wasn't surprised that those things weren't alluded to in front of Hawke (Fenris is a very guarded person, and actually so is Isabela with things of that personal nature). Just from the party banter I had gotten the feeling that it was mainly a physical thing with them, whereas some of the other relationship banter seemed a bit different (Carver/Merril, Sebas/Bethany).

If Bioware announce that i will be able to see the full text of what my character will say before it happens and i am able to make a selection it would make me preorder the game without any problems.

If not then there will be no preorder for sure unless Bioware can convince me that the game will be worth it.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that I'll pick up DA3. But, qunari or Tranquil companion would make me pick it up and hug it to my chest.

Probably the only thing that would not make me pick it up would be if the party disappeared. That would be bad.

Ooops. Sorry hon. :pinched:

Well, to be honest, I felt given Fenris' past I don't think he'd have ended up with Isabela at all. But that's just my opinion. I thought Fenris having a purely physical relationship seemed a little bit OOC for me... And for the others you've mentioned I think I'd have preferred banter referring to them actually getting together as opposed to just flirting. In the case of Seb/Bethany only if you were rivaling him and he'd decided to go back to Starkhaven.

I just thought that in 10 years or so it seemed odd that the only two who ever had duvet time were Fenris and Isabela...

A New Engine comparable to Skyrims and a refinement of DA2's mechanics and combat would make it a definate pre order for me whereas a total return to the broken DAO system would only make it an after release purchase when the price is reduced by 50%

I wouldn't mind if Dragon Age 3 was like Dragon Age 2 but more refined.
Minimally: More tactical choices (eg: Bows on Warriors, strategical placement), less grey and map rehash. (DLC fixed both of these quite well with the Corypheus and Sky Horror fights)
Would make it better: Starting out with different origins, leveled up equipment or static gear (so they remain good throughout the game)
If you have spare time: More gameplay differentation, reflection and exposition based on decisions made in the game and from previous saves. Party banter reflecting these.

Alternatively, a romanceable female Kossith.

That it's ditching all the "improvements" of DA2 and is going to use the same engine, design and style of DAO.

I'll buy it in a heartbeat, if they put Anders in DA3. Otherwise I'll wait for the criticisms before making a decision.

A dialogue system that actually lets me know what my character will say before he says it, thus restoring the critical bit of agency that was completely destroyed by paraphrases.

That it is reverting back to DA:O style of mechanics, dialogue lists, silent protag, camp, talk to companions anywhere.

No deal. It's not one thing. It cannot ever be one thing. It's the whole.
I gotta like the game. There has to be enough for me to like it, and it's kinda hard to exactly decide what that takes, in advance.

Edit: Actually, I seem to have answered the wrong question. I'd probably buy DA3 anyway, just because it's DA. If DA2 had not been widely recognized as a disaster (but still have been the same game), I wouldn't. Bioware would've been dead to me. As it is now, I'm kinda curious what they'll do, so I'm buying it. Bioware's salvation or condemnation is in their own hands, but I can at least be fair enough and give them a chance.

This is pretty much how I feel. I'll buy it anyway, but I can't say any one thing would make it an instant buy.

...well... maybe gorilla companions, a Dwarven protagonist, and the Ranger spec returning. That certainly couldn't hurt things.

There is no "one" thing that would make me buy DA3. DA2 muddied up enough stuff that I enjoyed greatly in DA:O and past BioWare games.

And as DA2 taught me, even if they announced features that sounded "awesome" its one thing to announce or say something pre-release and another entirely to back it up with that feature being there in the final product.
