Doktor, that is for the current cod generation. Games didn't reward you like that until pretty recently. People loved pong and millions of other games that gave you nothing but gameplay.

But the mechanism is there, and it appeals to the part of your brain that gets you into the skinner box whether you want to or not. If the mechanism is poorly designed, then it detracts from the experience, whether or not it rationally should. At least I am aware enough of the flawed nature of the human brain to admit that.

You are doing it wrong. Your excuses don't make sense. That is just you trying to rationalize your opinion.

I'd rather say that I'm rationally explaining the irrational background for my opinion.

If you enjoy the gameplay, fake guns won't change that. If you are getting bored with this game, it is time to move on or take a break.

But that's the thing. I'm not getting bored with the game. I'm getting frustrated with the game, and those are two very different things. If the game didn't have a store system at all (or if I could just shut down the lizard-part of my brain that responds to simple rewards), then I could probably just enjoy the gameplay. But as it is, the irrational part of my brain responds negatively to some aspects of my brain. And from the point of view of the game designers (who should focus on giving me just enough enjoyment to keep me hooked), that is a bad thing.

Sorry ty, I just don't believe you are being spammed with character cards if you don't have your rares maxed.

Qeylis, they already answered store complaints by adding more experience. I think you will be very dissappointed with your inevitable change. Experience was their solution to these complaints, lol...

And clearly it was insufficent.  They put a cap on respec cards.  They can do the same for character cards.  Once you have gotten 5 character cards for one character stop giving that card.  Simple.

I got 2 Female Quarian Infiltrator cards last night when I have had that maxed for a while. I know it is just an Uncommon, but it was in 2 different PSPs.

Experience is the main perk other than unlocking characters for the first time. They even buffed the experience before. This was their solution to this complaint. Character cards are the one thing that keep ultra rare weapons, ultra rare. If they changed this, everyone that has leveled URs the hard way, will be far more pissed than you. Especially those that put money in.

I bet the solution is to add something like gold consumables. I highly doubt they change the character cards.

Hah.

It might be nice then if they gave me character cards for classes I've got sitting at lvl 1 instead of classes I've got sitting at lvl 20. I promoted my Vanguards and Soldiers (again) last week, and for the past five days, I've gotten character cards for my lvl 20 Adepts and Engineers. And sh*t, the funny thing is, I'm not even getting Phoenix Adept cards, despite the fact the poor guy only has three appearance options unlocked. I wanna give him neon pink camo, damn it (no, not really)! But I keep getting cards for the Asari Adept.

The problem here is the random nature of unlocks. It always was the problem and it always will be the problem.

Dok, stop expecting things then. I don't have that problem vecause I think of them as bonus'. There is no reason to start turning this game into a grind for weapons. You are turning a video game into work(or it seems many are).

I was thinking that they should have implemented a trading system, that way you can trade things with people on your friends list or something.

I have rares/characters that I never plan on using, so I wouldn't mind trading them with someone who has something I might be interested in having.

So you can't play as much, but should get the same rewards as those that do play a lot? You are losing me here.

No, I'm pointing out that those who do not play as much won't know the difference, but the ones that do play a lot will finally get items that are practically unobtainable.

I don't think I will notice much difference if they drop redundant character cards. I doubt I will get to play enough before the game dies out anyway because the player base drops. All I will get out of it is more appearance unlocks for some of the classes that I don't have maxed out at the moment, and maybe a few more gold guns than I would have had otherwise.

But I would be happy if I could get cards for characters that are not fully unlocked instead of those that are.

Lucky you.

Unfortunately, the store system is part of the game, and it is part of what shapes the experience for most players. I can't just shut down the subconscious thought-processes that contribute to my enjoyment (or lack of it) of a game. And when the store system has the weaknesses it has, then it transforms what could be a 100% enjoyable experience into something I have mixed feelings about.

The bonus is being able to add different customization options to the character.  Being able to play with a character is a basic element of the game.  Imaging if you had to unlock squadmates in the SP using a similar system.

I'll throw in my poll regarding this. It's in my sig, please vote and comment in the thread.

Character cards should stop appearing for a player if they're not useful. It's really disheartening to put work into something to earn credits only to have it all negated because you only get character cards. Some people don't want to constantly grind and level-up just so they don't waste credits.

The issue that arises is with rarity balancing. This could easily be offset with gold level consumables. Something rewarding that can actually be used.

Knowing you're just going to get character cards for all the time you put in is like saying "Hey, you know that character you put all that work into leveling up? Now you can start all over again!"

I purchased 3 PSP's last night.

Of the 6 guaranteed Gold Cards - 2 were Drell Vanguards, that I've had maxed. Now I promote my characters(oh, a third of the guaranteed golds was...another Vanguard(Phoenix)) so the 750k XP was a nice boost for games I don't have to play to level them this time around - but come on.

I would have rather had a new character that I didn't have, or even one without the appearance maxed out - then two more Drellguard cards.

That's why i have pretty much stopped playing MP, all together. What Bioware should do is act in accordance with how they did with the reset power card. They need to start making some of the old rares uncommons. This would bring more value to the PSPs. Think about it, you have 1 uncommon card for nearly every class, but 3 rares? that doesn't even make sense.

I think you're wrong.  I trust BioWare, and I think they will make the right decision fairly soon.  It didn't take long for them to respond to the Leeching once the community started complaining.  It won't take long for them to respond to this.

I don't think that they are being thieves on purpose.  Once they understand that that is how we feel about the store, they will fix the issue.

Also, it is currently polling at 92% for a change to the store.  That is a lot of support.  BioWare listens to its fanbase. They are a good company.  They will fix this.

I believe that the people at BioWare are basically good, and are very creative, but when it affect the money the game makes their EA overlords will veto anything that would cost them a revenue source, even if it improves the game significantly.  I really wish BioWare hadn't been swallowed up by EA.

so what do you suggest? getting ultra-rares when you have everything else?

I think the character cards should at least prioritize by

1) characters that haven't had everyhting unlocked 1st
2) characters in which their class is not a level 20 already (assuming you don't have any class at level 20)

last night my infiltrator was at 20 as well as my sentinal. everything else was in the 14-17 range out of 2 packs i got 3 infiltrator cards for ones that already had full unlock. WOuld have beedn nice to get anything but a sentinal or infiltrator. at least i got a harrier 2 so i don't feel that bad,

I agree, a lvl3 consumables would be better. I'm getting tired of buying PSP and get useless character cards. It's like i spend 99k for +5 medigel or something like that.

Why not?

The MP is going to be practically dead long before most players get to that stage anyway, might as well let the small number of completionists have a reasonable chance to get all the weapons.

it ruins the purpose of ultra-rares

for consumables, it's ok

The neverending character card party made me stop long ago...

I will go back when there will be a system similar to the Character reset card.

Yes, I don't trust EA either.  They are evil money grubbing bass mouths.  I hate them more than I hate any other company on the face of the Earth.  I hope the company dies a fast and painful death.  However, I don't lump BioWare in with EA.

This would help Mass Effects bottom line, not hurt it.  If only 8% of the games fanbase is happy with the store, then even the demons at EA will have to see that there is more money in making it better.  The angels at BioWare will talk to the demons at EA and convince them that their evil plans would better be served with a change to the store.

I'm sure these discussions are already taking place, as this has been one of the most requested items on the boards for a while now.

It isn't like I care about the experience either. I am just pointing out reality. They would ****** off all of their most dedicated players if they suddenly made it easier to unlock everything.

Dok, you should be playing for the fun that you have playing the game. If you are playing for fake guns, you are doing it wrong. Are you just trolling? Character cards aren't keeping them UR? Can you share what you are smoking?

Tybalt, I could see something like that working. Just save the repeats until all rares and worse are unlocked. Again though, it doesn't take that long to max all rares with the current system. This is why I don't get the complaints.

They wouldn't ****** me off and I've been a fairly dedeicated Silver PuGer since the Demo. Go ahead look at my manifest. Mostly from playing Silver, some Gold.

It making the Store system less of a wall would be one of the smarter moves EA/Bioware could do right now as they botch one patch after another. Again I give this game until the end of July start of August before the MP is dead dead. This is the ammount of time all those just now getting the game at the start of summer vaction have until they hit the UR wall.

The best solution would be to use the following logic chain.

If CHARACTER is 5(4) appearances & level 20
>> Pick another CARD

If all Gold or lower Cards maxed & CHARACTERS  are 5(4) appearances at level 20
>> +3 (ammo, armor, weapon) or +5 expendable pack (cobra, medi-gel, op)

This does nothing to the UR wall unfortuantlly but keeps a steady progression of everything Gold and lower.
