Are you sure? Seems that everyone here is just trying to see who is "bigger." It's funny, in a sad way.

No offense, but aren't you trying to seem like the bigger person yourself right now?

It's not that kind of bigger they're trying to figure out. I'm just making fun.

It's not like I'm really offended or anything. Just making an observation.

Ah, I really do find it funny, watching people scurry around with their heads full of overwrought thoughts and theories on things they'll never truly understand (yet believe they do), trying desperately to prove others wrong and themselves right using these invisible little rulebooks we've written that we consider to be universal law and infallible paths to "truth."

It's really sobering because, for once, I'm not one of the people doing the scurrying - puts things into perspective.

Just a heads up that this thread is clearly a contravention of site rules (no discussion of religion), so be warned folks.

Nah, I'm not an atheist. At least... not for now.

I actually plan to take some time off in a few years where I'll spend my time learning about multiple religions and atheism. I already have a huge list of books to read and a bunch of debates to watch. Then after I'm done with all this homework, I'll decide what I'll be for the rest of my life.

Fine, it's getting late anyway.

Look at it is this way: If you believe you can live in heaven infinitely and if you don't then hell is your reward.

A god that makes belief in it mandatory is setting so many people up for eternal torment I have to question if its really an intelligent or benevolent being.

Just live your life trying to be a good person and work to benefit others. If a god requires anything more than that its probably an ego-driven tyrant not worthy of its own subjects. The concept of hell and eternal torment is a juvenile idea that utterly defeats the purpose of punishment and justice its trying to convey.

I am one but I would still love to hang out with Jesus, Buddha, Amaterasu, Zeus and Cthulhu. It would be a fun party.^_^

Why? Because you believe you will be able to reach a firm conclusion? You can perhaps arrive to a better one, but saying it will be final is really uninspiring.
Or is the debate just bothering you? In the latter case, I can recommend you don't pay any heed to it. It's that simple.

Death is perhaps the final (5th?? ) dimension.:P

edit: or is it a 0-dimension into which all others can collapse at one moment? *scratches head* *goes doing meaningful stuff* Bye you all and good luck for keeping this thread alive (though I wager death will suddenly take it)! ;)

I'd rather "overthink" it than accept a facile and inherently unfounded position simply because I "like" it better, or whatever was the criteria for how you arrived at your opinion on the matter at hand.

If your intent is to come off as an intellectual, you're not doing a very good job of it.

That wasn't my intent, actually. I'm trying to be clear in my communication, that's about it as far as my "intent" goes. I think I have stated my position clearly, if nothing else, and if you don't agree with my position, so be it. But creating any sort of impression, "intellectual" or otherwise, is not my goal.
