It happens in any game, even across multiple platforms, it was ony a matter of time.

I wonder how many are PC users, no offense to them I own quite the PC rig myself, but cheaters can modify games easier on PC.

Yes, excellent. Just think - if the community shrinks enough, we might get to know each other on a first name basis! =D

The terms of service are absolute, but I'm not going to celebrate shaving almost another thousand players off of multiplayer or congratulate Bioware's delayed reaction when simply communicating with players more effectively might have made bans unnecessary.

I don't really fault bioware for the slow reaction to the cheating. They probably did not think our "mature" fan base would stoop to cheating, and probably caught them off-guard.

LOL.
trying to talk someone out of cheating?
is that like trying to talk a homeless, hungry out of a free meal?
these bans were a long time coming, and also needed to be done before it got out of hand.
when will people learn that they cannot do whatever they want?

IMHO-those 1k people probably did not add anything to me3 MP, but instead take things away!?!

Of course it's their fault - they were made aware of most if not all the more common problems on Day 1 of release, some even during the demo. They were absolutely terrible at communicating with us about the store reset bug.

I'm not going to pretend people wouldn't have cheated if Bioware were better at talking to us, but the number of banned players might not have been 861 - it might have only been 850, or 600.

"IMHO-those 1k people probably did not add anything to me3 MP, but instead take things away!?!"

They were players you could have played with but can't any longer. I don't know the quality of the game you would have had, but frankly, neither do you. Fact is they're not around any more, and that makes the community smaller.

So hi, my name is Michael, what's yours? 8D

Edit: And let's be clear, I'm not saying Bioware should have had to convince people not to cheat. I'm not making that point. I'm saying that if Bioware had done a better job at damage control with the numerous bugs, people might not have felt justified in cheating. Terms of Service are absolute, but it sucks that we lost community members when we didn't really have to.

Michael here as well.

while I agree with you on damage control nug, i just cannot bring my self to feel bad about this.
these people were cheating, in a co-op mp game of all things.
it just feels like i would compare it to the fact of stealing crayons from a baby or something along those lines.
in history someone ALWAYS has to be used as a example......just so happens it was the right people this time.

Can't say I'm really happy about this. I mean the cheaters never affected my game play, but less people in MP means longer lobby wait time and so their banning could slightly inconveince me (I guess I'll never really know).

But, really, was this unforeseeable? I mean they have server logs of the games, so it is just aggregating the data, deciding who's cheating and banning. Turning off tracking might have made data gathering take longer but it never had a chance of blocking it. I guess people have to learn the hard way.

I think a ban from MP 'might' simultaneously result in a forum ban, I'm not sure.

That would make sense. I hope that's the case.

There is no possible "justification" that one can put forward which makes cheating acceptable.

The fact that bugs are there does not make using them to work around a supposed "slight" against the players in the form of the store system.

Like I said, the Terms of Service is absolute, but if someone lost all of their credits and weapons to the store bug and was made aware of the credit exploit around the same time, what are they expected to do? Those of us affected by the reset weren't given any comfort or consolation, we had to sit and take it. Not everyone was happy with that, so some might have gone ahead and used the exploit to get back what they lost.

If Bioware had done a better job reassuring players that they would be compensated, or simply done a better job with the damage control, some players might not have cheated, and the community would not have lost them. That's all I'm trying to point out.

If people had their own bank accounts emptied (store reset), and were shown an open vault which doesn't hurt anything because there's no real in-game economy (credit exploit), then yeah, I'd say they were practically forced to rob the bank. The only problem I can discern with using the credit exploit was that it reduced the likelihood of people spending real money on packs, which is probably why people who exploited it were banned.

I saw one person that was banned posting on here asking how to get unbanned or something to that effect...so I don't think it's both.

Not really hard to max rare weapons. Ultra rares and gear is a different thing though.
