The players are only paid club wages which technically doesn't cover their international duties; hence the wranglings of club versus country at a higher level. So in a way, what the players are paid is actually a moot point with respect to their performance because they aren't paid to play for their country.

Even before the tournament I thought England would do well to get out of the group stages, and they did that. As such I think it was a success. Bit peeved my penalty prediction didn't quite come off though. So close.....

I suspect that Germany will win the Euros this time around; they are looking really good.

Isn't there a bonus for winning international matches or did I imagine that?

England were strange, on one hand they did well to top the group, but on the other they never played well or looked convincing.

I'm just glad Rooney's shocking form has finally been acknowledged, dropping him might do him a world of good. Infact I'd like to see England start with two from Welbeck/Carroll/Bent and Rooney dropped/benched until he finds form. Same with United, I'm hoping Kagawa's signing means Rooney is benched until he finds form because he's been shocking for months.

Probably right there, Druss. Though as a bonus it means they only get it if they are successful and not part of a standard settlement for services rendered. Hm...that sounded more wordy than intended.....

It was a strange tournament. There was talk of how Hodgson had managed to get the players to accept his methods quickly and every thing. As far as I'm concerned England's main problem is still keeping the ball, and that just won't be rectified until the academies and clubs start playing a more technical game. So....it looks like it will be quarterfinal exits from here on out. Nothing has changed there then.

Reintroducing Rooney into the team seemed to disrupt the flow and momentum a bit. The team was probably better balanced without Rooney in it. Still take a brave manager to drop him though.

I find this so ridiculous, they are supposed to be professional atlethes, the best of the best, and you are saying that they can't play 2 big matches within 4 days of eachother.

Amateurs who play on tournaments have to play several full length matches a day and that's no problem but if professionals have to play 2 matches in 4 days everybody starts to whine that they are not 100% and might be tired...

Seems the general consensus is that Spain will (eventually) beat Portugal and Germany will be Italy as well. Be funny if we were all wrong on that.....
