I didn't expect much from Italy, I thought they would be playing catenaccio but they made a good match out of it against Barcelona.. uuh, I mean Spain..MM08 wrote...
It was a good match.
But I am really impressed by Italy. They were much stronger than I thought.
Anyway, congratulations to JRCHOharry and Merci357, as they have predicted the correct result.
Now I am looking forward to Ireland - Croatia.
And Croatia is already in the lead...that was fast.
Indeed, that wasn't offside but the ball before that was. It could be argued that he shot at the goal so that the players who were offside didn't count but than again, the ball did went in their direction...Mesina2 wrote...
BTW, just seen highlight.
That Jelavić's goal was not in offside.
Irish player kicked the ball into his own palyer, which then got to Jelavić.
But you just end up with the same discussion that keeps emerging in situations like this..
Croatia was the better team but I really liked the Irish, they kept hunting, kept attacting, trying to score. So far I vote Ireland the most sympathic team (and the Croatian coach the weirdest dressed guy...)Druss99 wrote...
Croatia have been the better team easily.
Did
anyone else hear a whistle before Ireland's goal? I thought the ref was
blowing for a freekick and it could have put the Croatian defenders
off.
I heard it too, as did the commentators here and in the extra time I heard it twice more. It wasn't the ref though, I guess it was someone on the stands with a really good whistle..
And just as a nice touch, I got this picture sent to me:
It translates to: "Can you see the ball?? Van Persie centainly can't"

I've updated the second post with the matches for round 2 which will start on the 12th so I would like all predictions for that round in before the first match of that round (Greece - Czech Republic) starts meaning before 18.00 on the 12th

I think Italy could well have won today if they started with Di Natale instead of Balotelli.
No wonder Van Persie is injury prone. How did he even contort himself into that position?

Jelavic definately wasn't offside, he wasn't part of the play when the original shot came in. Irish TV keep showing a replay of it and claiming the defender who miskicked his clearance was fouled but thats really clutching at straws, they are just looking for excuses. In the end up they had to admit that Ireland are a very poor team who were lucky to get there. Which is true, Croatia are a much better team and it showed.
I disagree.
Ireland did really good today, just Croatia outclassed them today.

France - England
Interesting first half, boring second half...
But at least I have gained 10 points.

Alot of English players were giving the ball away. Both teams seemed to struggle with the heat in the second half.OBakaSama wrote...
Twasn't too bad. I couldn't see why Welbeck wasn't substituted though in the second half; he seemed to give the ball away a lot.
Benzema took up some strange positions, it was almost like he was playing behind another striker who wasn't there. It helped France keep possession but left them with no presence in the box.
Jonny Giles and Dietmar Haman finally stated the obvious fact which most football pundits seem to have ignored, neither Lampard nor Gerrard is an actual midfielder and Lampard being injured has done England a big favour. Then the commentator kept getting players mixed up, Chamberlain and Cole, Milner and Gerrard, Debuchy and Cabaye, a whole list of players. It wasn't too bad when he was mixing up two players actually on the field, it got a bit out of hand when he shouted "ABOU DIABY!!!" at a France freekick, I don't think he's even in the squad.
I've had a horrible first round, I think I got most of points in the group stage last time, so this is not a good sign.

Probably best to listen to the radio for commentary.
Got more points than I would have imagined. Will put up my wild guesses for the next set of matches after this evening's game.
