Why won't you play... Gold Difficulty (Or Silver, for those Bronze-only players) [Or Lower Difficulty, for Gold Players]

(Edit - Thread title, for more opinions)

Just a general question and opinion. Please try not to start a war here.:innocent: No offense to anyone.

I'm sure there are many players who doesn't play on higher difficulties, like myself. Is there any special reasons why wouldn't you play on higher difficulties?

------

Personally I've played mainly Silvers and many times Bronze. I've hardly touched Gold (Can't say never, because of one of the previous Operations), feeling that Silver is fun enough for myself.

- I don't have a working mic, so vocal-dependant teamwork is out of the window.

- Spontanous Charger, that is, sometimes I just like to run right into a firefight. Its my bad habit, one that I take pleasure in and will both shamefully (accidental) and shamelessly (why-the-hell-not moment) do it. Silver is more forgiving.

- Bring random class/Race/Loadout combo into matches. Silver is easy enough that a bad loadout can still work, abeit requiring more effort from myself. Sure, the score system is bad indication for this co-op game, but I prefer not to end up at the 4th place, unless the whole team's score is averaged.

- Confession: I feel Gold has too much elitism (Apologies to those who aren't that way at all. Yes, its a generalised opinion from myself, please forgive). Because of how hard I felt Gold can get, I understand that sometimes a Map/Faction combo would need certain specific class/Race/Loadout/Synergy to succeed. And in Public Games (Yup, I have no friends to play with, and I didn't join any gaming groups here), many times those elitist players just get too stuck-up about certain things to enjoy a simple game.

These are most of my personal reason why I prefer playing Silver and Bronze. I like a challenge sometimes, but I mostly prefer chilling out and taking things simple.

Morbid fear of debilitating lag. It's not a problem on bronze, can be handled if you play carefully on silver but devastating on gold. I'd love to play more gold games, but I always seem to get connected to servers where I can see enemies on one part of the map and then they shoot me from a totally different place.

I do Bronze and some Silver because they are fun. I don't take pleasure in taking on a tough challenge. All it does is frustrate me when I can't beat it. Plus the elitism coming from the Gold veterans just makes me want to play Bronze in spite of those A-holes, knowing I won't ever have to run into them.

Join a group, gold is so much fun then and naturally much more rewarding.

I'd prefer for players to play what they are comfortable at rather than watch them flail about and struggle on a harder difficulty. Everybody loves a little challenge but for many gold is too challenging and there are even some that find silver too challenging. I will not insist that these players abandon having fun, just because I want more players in my difficulty.

I think there is some elitism in this game as there is in every game, but what appears to be elitism at the gold level is probably just making sure that the mission will be successful.

Personally speaking I like to have noobs in my silver games since I can carry them easily, but in my gold games I want players of my skill level/gear level or better because I honestly can't carry 3 other players on gold (especially if they are being stingy on equipment).

It is understand that people prefer things that is public-recongised as workable combo (e.g +200% cd AA, GPS/Claymore GI) so as to succeed for higher difficulty, so I'm not exactly into being angry or anything.

Personally ain't bothered with Race/class/Loadout combo, but I also cut some slack since public (Gold) games usually end up wanting the workable combo since players may not know each other.

Of course, things like "YOU MUST USE THIS" or "YOU MUST DO THAT" are the actual reason why I stay out of Gold, public games at least. And I like doing random crazy stuff that would likely to be looked down upon in Gold Public.

mostly play bronze and silver (private), as i am teaching my son how to play co-op games correctly before letting him loose on the public at large.
once i am either on my own or with some of my friends we stick to silver* as we have had too many golds where the spawn point for the money round is where we need to be and or so exposed that everything on the map can take you out as soon as it appears and we all go down in a rain of gun fire and rockets.

* unless its the gold mission weekend or some other over riding desire to be dumped half way into a gold wave without a clue how i just got killed ;)

I can solo bronze, a lot of us can on here - it's a breeze.

Silver is the new Bronze for me though at times it offers a good challenge.

Gold to me is difficult and into a difficult match I'm going to take lvl III equipment - ammo, weapon bonus, etc. Why don't I play because I'm afraid I'll get disconnected, glitched (frozen) or that we'll fail...

Just earlier this evening with exactly 1 second left on extraction the game froze...and it just kills me to think that I invested all that time and equipment for nothing. When that happens I'm like "this is exactly why I don't play on Gold."

Gold needs overload and energy drain too much, really. Biotic Explosions are also a must, but those are somewhat harder to come by.

You sir have a nice degree of self-awareness, and it seems a lot like you think about the team more than you do about yourself. That is an admirable and rare quality in players these days.

For the same reasons, i leave gold games to be played on the characters i know i can fully utilize as well as refraiming from playing gold when on my laptop because my performance is simply below par when i do.

That being said, i'm pretty sure that no harm would come from you peeking into a gold game once in a while, as long as you can bite your lip instead of charging in. With so many powerfull weapons around these days, voice com is not as big a deal as it once was.

I tend to play silver only, sometimes bronze when I want a relaxing game to warm up or I just promoted a class.

I don't play gold because I play in public games, and I'm afraid my novaguard with her measly carnifex VIII won't cut it or that I will lag horribly. I could play with some other class, but that isn't just as fun for me. Besides, every time I tried joining a gold game in public (not as vanguard, I host when I play that class), it ended up being FBW against Geth....

Reward is nothing to me if I don't have fun

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Personnaly, I have a wife, two kids, school, and a tattooing apprenticeship that keep me plenty focused. I play ME3 to relax and have fun.

Recently greed has got the better of me, and I'm doing pretty decent on Gold matches but there's no, ehem, "elitism" involved. I just want more money.

I do kinda feel like a big shot when I play Bronze now though.

I rarely play gold, since I feel like I will be a hindrance... I mean, I don't want me to be the reason why the team fail. I have been thrown to gold, a la game search(I was looking for bronze, you piece of crap!). I mean, I don't feel like I have strong enough weapons to cause any damage to the enemies. Sure, I've played a few firebase geth gold games, but those were by accident, and staying behind the counter really bores me.

And those are the only reasons I have for staying in silver, with some bronze once in a while. Though, lately, I've been dying a lot in silver, as well. Either the enemies have gotten stronger, or my random teams are not doing the team part seriously, anymore...

Fear it would all turn out to be a complete waste of time. I play silver after getting carnifex, it's usually very easy, but players with ridiculous ideas and rambo personality can still leads to failure...
Also, you will need to deal with the latency... If you are off host, rockets and most projectile can and will go through walls, round the corners to kill you. Getting one shot by maruder is bad enough, there is no need for more surprised butt sex from all directions.

gold - geth farming for credits
bronze - whatever I feel like doing for fun
silver - annoying, long and waste of time , almost never play it [unless there is event]

I rarely play gold, because honestly i hardly can find one. So after 5 minutes of searching i chage to silver and i have game almost instantly.

Another factor is that i'm at the present low on certain consumables (ammo mods, and certain rail amps), so i play silver more.

It requires way too much work & resourses. Id rather play a few more silvers with a good team(good enough for silver anyways) than just one gold.

Before I'd started playing silver, it was because I didn't know how to play classes besides the human soldier. That's what Shepard was in my main playthrough, so that's what I got good at. I also didn't have any of the classes unlocked yet, and just generally couldn't trust myself to perform competently out of bronze. When I unlocked the Asari Adept, I just wanted to try it out, and I fell in love with it. Stasis bubble, warp, and throw were all favorites, although it took me a while to decide on the build I use now. Bronze started to feel easy, so I tried Silver matches.

I still had ****ty weapons, and shooting stasised stuff in the face more than a couple times is disheartening (♥ the Carnifex now). Someone taught me White/Gold/Geth farming, so I collected credits for a bit to build up my weapons, but I mostly played silver, since it was actually fun. At first, I was using the Tempest, since I sucked at aiming (didn't realize stasis made headshots easy), but once I picked up the Carnifex and got some skill at aiming, I started using that. When I got decent at aiming, I started to try genuine gold runs (as opposed to W/G/G, which is ridiculously easy). Now I rather enjoy gold. Far less stressful. After buying a bunch of specter packs (PSPs when available, since they weren't a permanent feature at first), I also had more than 2 of each equipment when starting a match.

Basically, before reaching the individual points where I could go up in difficulty, I was pretty sure I would have just been a corpse that didn't make extraction. I didn't want to inconvenience people, and it wasn't fun to try when I did bump up the difficulty.

I will say this; if you're good enough at one difficulty level, try the next highest. If things don't go well at first, that's fine. It takes a bit to get used to changes in enemy density and composition, and to learn that with some builds, you have 3 hitpoints, basically (shields, shieldgate, healthgate) since enemies do more damage, but it's more satisfying once you do. No real reason not to try; it is only a game, after all.

I don't Really play much gold, did a little fbwgg after a bad run of disconnects and awful teams had used all my medigel, but its boring, either there is no challenge or the group are awful and you get wiped. I'm happiest on silver with a good group, but I'm starting to think I should start doing some golds, I think my skills might almost be up to the required standard.

I play Gold only on weekend challenges.
I play Silver when i need the credits.
I play Bronze for fun.

I have never found a game to be more fun when you are fighting concrete blocks on legs.
Give me smarter and more numerous enemies, instead of just increasing their health.

Thanks for the compliment ^^ I dislike my time being wasted (in real life, like example, waiting for a friend who's late for hours without letting me know. Hell no!), so I try not to waste other gamers' time by failing gold because of my entics.

I play gold and silver about the same amount. A bit more gold I'd say. Always start by warming up with 1 or 2 silver matches, then move on to gold. Mostly play with friends, so no need to worry about teamwork or weird randoms.

Silver is mainly for levelling. I find gold to not be much harder than silver, maybe also because I never use equipment in silver, except for the permanent gear.

We sometimes only have 2 or 3 players availalble, and we'll do gold with a random then, must say I haven't encountered much elitism. Many of the randoms that joined up for gold are now in my friend list.

I only do bronze when I try out a really weird build, or when solo-ing. And sometimes to help someone I know without any experience in mp.

I try to search for gold matches, but I get alot of FBWGG lobbies >.> Also I lag heaps and gold is a horrible place to lag. If I host, no one joins cause I'm in Australia...sadly I'm on pc while all my friends are on console too lol.
