My few experiences with Gold were largely frustrating, because team members either do not work together in PUGs, or after 2 waves, just leave the game when they're downed. But I will not deny the simple fact that Gold, when playing with people you know and/or people who know their roles, is a lot of fun.

Still, in 20 different teams for Gold, I only came across the one team that was working together in a PUG. Perhaps I was just awfully unlucky. But I want to at least get to Wave 3 in most of my games, and at the end of the day, it's simply too frustrating waiting for a team that actually works well together. Hence, I just rarely play gold. It's mostly bronze or silver for me.

Having said all that, I can see that in the future (say, 6 months from now), Gold might actually be worth playing, since the only people that play it would be the dedicated ones that actually know what they're doing/work together.

Just my two cents. =)

I dunno. I play so much Gold that stepping back to Silver feels like stepping back to Bronze. And playing Bronze... feels like I just enabled God-Mode.

Not that God-Mode isn't fun... but I can only imagine the frustration of some of the players that play with me in those random Bronze lobbies.

I mean, how big of an ego hit is it when a Lvl 1 ANYTHING destroys your Lvl 15-20's score by twice your score? I prefer not to step on people's egos which is why IF I join Bronze, I hardly do anything at all unless everyone went down and then I turn on my Gold level play skills to pull them through.

God that sounds elitist but I swear I'm not, I never vote to kick anyone unless they were a complete jackhole in the previous game or they take FOREVER to ready up.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Silver is a waste of time. When my friends get tired of Gold we usually farm about 3-4 Bronze games in 30 minutes. A group of strong players can destroy Bronze in no time flat which can basically be a form of quick and easy farming.

I haven't made the leap to full-time Gold yet, and play mostly Silver.  I still have some work to do with patience and taking cover - I still do a little too much ramboing, and gets me in trouble enough on Silver.

all my characters and classes are thought out to be effective on gold. even my drell Vanguard could in theory hold well on gold. as a result they are mostly OP and able to solo Bronze.

in general i play on Gold or Bronze. Bronze i play because i love just messing around and having fun. Gold i play for Challenge and "Hopefully" some teamwork from the players. i kind of ignore Silver because it cant seem to make up its mind.

Gold needs overload and energy drain too much, really. Biotic Explosions are also a must, but those are somewhat harder to come by.

This is incorrect. Reapers don't need overload and ED at all really. BE's are also NOT a must, and are relatively super-easy to achieve. After playing on Gold for a while you'll realize it's not as hard as people think it is, and can be trumped by almost any class. Of course, this comes at the expense of increased effort if you're using something like a Drell Vanguard.

Give it some more time, then forumlate your rebuttal.

I play gold because the teamwork is better. Some silver games are harder than gold because it seems like gold players know "the rules." Not that there arent a lot of great silver players, but there are a -lot- of really bad ones. I play silver to try new builds or just have a chill game, and I play the first game after a class promote in bronze, unless for some reason I've promoted my infiltrator, then its straight to silver.

If I had teammates, I'd play more gold. You can't play a biotic class by yourself.

the payout of gold has got me playing it more (i want a better harrier) and the payout for 1 game of silver doesn't always cover the cost of a jumbo pack which lead to me running out of medi-gel and ops packs. i don't play silver or gold without those. so really i play out of necessity but for a relaxing game without swarms of banshees and phantoms, silver is the place to be.

if i have just promoted a character i will play bronze but i don't like to. its not that i don't enjoy it, i do, but i end up blasting away the enemies with really trying. thats not fair on the other players, some really new who need the practise to get better and not have this high ranking player come in and take away their glory. i am not a glory hogger. i know i needed all the help i could get. so i play 1 or 2 games first off then go to silver, then gold. then start the process all over again

also i am a random player. if i had friends i could do speed runs on bronze and silver but i don't

I farm GGW for credits, but I prefer Silver for trying out different builds and weapons, new classes and maps, etc. GGW because I have limited time to play so when I do I want a sure payoff. When I have more time I do like to get my toes wet in other Gold matches as long as the rest of the group isn't noobtastic.

i wish i could just play Silver all the time. i don't because of the EA server disconnects and typically one player will bring the whole team down. the biggest negative to this is that i usually spec out with consumables so when the team loses because of a n00b player or the EA server disconnect, i lose those consumables and get nothing in return. i play more Bronze matches because i can finish a wave by myself as long as on objective matches the objectives get completed. i also don't need to equip any consumables and i don't use any medi-gels.

in other words, reward is higher for me on Bronze. EA servers are the biggest pain ever. 2 out of 3 matches last night ended because of EA server disconnects. just ridiculous.

I don't enjoy bronze much anymore because it just seems like a feeding frenzy to kill the bad guys. On the early waves particularly, it's a race to find the spawns and wipe them out and sometimes you barely get a sniff of an enemy. On silver and gold, I know there will be plenty of enemies to go around and everyone gets to do their share of killing. I guess I can't get no satisfaction on bronze. Also, I find that as a result I tend to play completely recklessly on bronze and sometimes manage to get myself killed. And that's just embarrassing.

There really isn't any difficulty I won't play.  I play Bronze for fun (KROGAN SMASH!) or to level up.  I play Silver mostly, because it's challenging enough to keep me interested, but not enough to make me frustrated.  I usually get full extraction on Silver if I'm with a remotely decent team.  I am probably good enough to play Gold more than I do.  I can be effective and contribute to the team, but I'm not good enough to be successful on Gold unless I'm playing with others who are as good or better than me.

I mainly play gold as even silver feels way too easy now for me and I start getting bored quickly. I may drop to silver to try a build I am not entirely comfortable with or I feel like rushing everything. I will also play silver when I come back from playing several different games to get used to controls again, I would be upset with myself dragging a team down due to making silly control mistakes.

That said, bronze has me so bored I try to melee everything or kill it all as they spawn to get it over with quickly, but I only play bronze if a friend promotes and wants to level up there. To each their own though, I would rather people play the difficulty that they can enjoy the game on rather than be frustrated dying over and over.

Honestly, if it aint Firebase White with Geth on Gold, then I usually stay away from Gold. Communication is rare on the Xbox and its hard to find a game with decent random people.

It's all about money. There's no real challenge in this game aside from overcoming the lag. All higher difficulties do is force you to shoot enemies longer. That's it. It's not some monumental achievement to beat, it just takes more time and bullets/powers. It all comes down to the amount of money you want to get for the time you're playing. If you want the best gear, then you'll need to play Silver and Gold to get that gear. If all you're doing is playing to keep that ridiculous Galaxy at War screen between 100-95, then just play Bronze.

Yes,shoot enemies longer....Which then means that there are more enemies at once on the map.And let's not forget that THEY shoot YOU around 3x times stronger......

But anyways,I'll get on topic: I like challenges, and it's more rewarding...That's why I mostly play on GOLDI sometimes play SILVER,to warm up.
The only time I play on BRONZE is when I try out new builds.

Doesn't matter how you look at it, Gold's just about shooting things longer. If you're out of cover, you're obviously not a very smart player. It doesn't take much skill or even communication to beat any enemy on any map on Gold. An IQ over 20 is really all it takes. Why so many people act like it's where the elite of the elite hang out is beyond me.

I only play on silver if I just promoted a class sometimes bronze if it's a power based class especially since I can top the scoreboard with a lvl 1 inflitrator or solider. Also play silver with my brother on unknown. Otherwise I'm usually farming until I find a decent group of people to play gold unknown with.

I agree with the sentiment that Silver seems harder than Gold because sometimes people will try to play Silver when they aren't up to it. For some reason that seems not to be the case on Gold.

(Edit - Thread title, for more opinions)

Just a general question and opinion. Please try not to start a war here.:innocent: No offense to anyone.

I'm sure there are many players who doesn't play on higher difficulties, like myself. Is there any special reasons why wouldn't you play on higher difficulties?

------

Personally I've played mainly Silvers and many times Bronze. I've hardly touched Gold (Can't say never, because of one of the previous Operations), feeling that Silver is fun enough for myself.

- I don't have a working mic, so vocal-dependant teamwork is out of the window.

- Spontanous Charger, that is, sometimes I just like to run right into a firefight. Its my bad habit, one that I take pleasure in and will both shamefully (accidental) and shamelessly (why-the-hell-not moment) do it. Silver is more forgiving.

- Bring random class/Race/Loadout combo into matches. Silver is easy enough that a bad loadout can still work, abeit requiring more effort from myself. Sure, the score system is bad indication for this co-op game, but I prefer not to end up at the 4th place, unless the whole team's score is averaged.

- Confession: I feel Gold has too much elitism (Apologies to those who aren't that way at all. Yes, its a generalised opinion from myself, please forgive). Because of how hard I felt Gold can get, I understand that sometimes a Map/Faction combo would need certain specific class/Race/Loadout/Synergy to succeed. And in Public Games (Yup, I have no friends to play with, and I didn't join any gaming groups here), many times those elitist players just get too stuck-up about certain things to enjoy a simple game.

These are most of my personal reason why I prefer playing Silver and Bronze. I like a challenge sometimes, but I mostly prefer chilling out and taking things simple.

I will only play on Gold with people I know, and with a plan and coordination. Gold is slightly above my current comfort level with randoms. That may change as I get better, because I used to feel the same about Silver.

After getting the Achievement for doing all the maps on Gold, I'm really only interested in it for credits. Silver is more fun to me than Gold is. But like I said, maybe if I feel like Silver has nothing more to offer in terms of fun, I'll hopefully be good enough to go random on Gold.

I play mostly on bronze because I don't have a Assault Rifle that I can bring into Silver! I don't need level VII Sniper!! I want a level V Phaeston or level V Vindicator so I can have a cool down under 170%.

I play Gold when I'm up for a challenge, and Silver when I'm trying to level promoted characters or am burnt out from playing Gold. My playstyle works well on both difficulties, so it's more a question of "Am I mentally up for another Gold run?" rather than "Can I win another Gold run?"

I mostly play gold.

- Silver often feels to easy, I just lolaround with whatever, and I do enjoy it at times, especially different melee builds and vanguards that I am not good enough to play PUG gold with.

- The credits. If I have a fun and good silver game I play it just for fun and the credits don't mean a thing. But if is just an OK game I feel a bit like I could've played a gold instead and gotten more than twice the credits. Gold feels more rewarding even if it is not a great game.

- The people who play it. Although this has changed recently, when I did make the jump to gold-standard from silver I thought most gold games were actually easier than the silver games! At that time Silver was populated with to many players who just got out of bronze and they made Silver hard as hell while gold was almost exclusively really good players or really easy to notice bad players.
This has changed but I still have that feeling from when I went up to gold.

- Watching my build in action. Since almost any build works on Silver it doesn't really matter.
But when I got my Turian Sentinel to work very well on gold I felt a bit happy, it was nice to feel like I am solid and an force at gold without an infiltrator or biotic bomber.
I am also really liking my stasis sniper that over-elitist people like to complain about.

But I played a lot of silver the last promotion event and it was nice, it can be a lot of fun. But gold just feels more interesting.
But lately I am getting really sick and tired of annoying teams on gold and less and less origin friends seem to be playing ME3 anymore so it gets a bit frustrating at times as well...

EDIT: If I am in the mood for something more relaxing or easy after a hard gold run, FBWGG or Cerberus on most maps is easy in a team that knows what they are doing.
And it is also more relaxing than how I usually play Silver. :)

I used Bronze and Silver as stepping stones, then I fbwgg'd until I learned what class builds worked and what didn't. Now I'm doing gold games against Cerberus. I love pushing myself in whatever I happen to be doing. I'm always getting better, it's a personality trait.

As for elitism, it's needed. I don't really understand the disdain for it. Haven't people noticed that elitists tend to have the most weapons, the most consumables, the best gear? There's a correlation between elitism and success. The ends justify the means.

I always play one bronze match a day to get galactic readiness to 100%, then I switch to Gold which I play almost exclusively by now. Haven't played a silver match in a long time, it's just not rewarding enough in terms of exp and money for the time you need to invest in it. I mostly play with people on my friends list so I can be somewhat sure we'll finish the match 9 out of 10 times. I don't like PUG gold, because either it's FBWG which is boring or any other combination which sadly a lot of players in public lobbies are just not able to handle. Everytime I go against my better judgement and start up anyway, a wipe out is almost inevitable when I'm not playing my best game. Sounds priggish I know, but I don't want to do the carrying and then still fail. That's why I tend to avoid public lobbies and play private mostly.

I usually only play Silver because it's the perfect balance between Bronze and Gold that I can have fun with.

However, I will play Gold occasionally, but I refuse to play Firebase White Geth Gold. I have beaten Gold legit numerous times, why do I need to use that method? Plus it takes away all the fun and god forbid if you screw up the system once.

So yeah, Silver mostly but some Gold.

Bronze when I promote to level my characters back up. Then around 12 or 13 I start back on Silver.

Elite people don't care about weapon X number, N7, amount of consumables or any of that meaningless stuff and they don't feel the need to brag. They let thier playing do the talking.

Whereas "Elitists" are distinctly average players who think having a Carnifex X and 2000 N7 means they are good.... and when you play a match with them you realise how much they fail. Elitists are the least "Elite" people out there.

As for which one I play, either Gold or Silver. Depending on how much time I have, or how much time I think i'll have before get interrupted irl.
