I just wanted to post some words of encouragement.
I used to only play bronze when my very first game was a failed silver match. From then on, I played bronze exclusively until I felt confident enough to challenge myself. Then, for the longest time, I only played silver. I played silver, again, until I felt confident enough to challenge myself again.
I then made the leap to gold. I met some good players and some bad ones. I don't just mean in terms of ability, but in terms of personality. I don't tolerate BS in general and I want my games to be fun and dealing with elitism is not fun for me. I tend to shy away from being chatty and will only speak up when I feel it matters in-game or if the conversation is constructive.
What matters for me is the fun aspect of the game. I tried the leap to gold a few times and retreated back to silver due to failures and bad experiences with some other players.
Over time, what happened for me though is that I started getting comfortable with gold. It suddenly was not so hard and quickly realized that there were actually some decent people to play with that were more like me than there were the people I wanted to stay away from.
What was key here for me was gaining the experience that I needed to feel confident and to actually be capable of pulling off gold.
That said, I still go back to silver sometimes when I don't feel like playing longer matches due to other things like, erm, life!
So in the end, try gold once you are confident and have the time. There are good players out there that are not elitists. Hit me up if you ever want to play!
