An already great power got even better.

And with the Talon buff, I think I'll actually have a 200% CD bonus using mine. (or close to it.)

Yeah, with 0.6 weight at X, you can get exactly 200% even without the rank 6 weight evolution.

Now the question is... to use the Talon, or the Scorpion which weighs just as much now. (for the ultimate CC machine)

Holy hell that Smash buff is incredible. With maxed power damage from the passive and Smash specced for max damage, it has 1292,5 damage, 1057,5N force with a 1,54 second cooldown. 1,54. Second. Cooldown. Add to that the range buff that makes it even easier to safely use throuh walls/cover, it's an incredible damage dealer right now. If my math doesn't fail horribly, that's 839,2 DPS. With a single power, no need for combos. Wow. And against armor/barriers it's even better! The damage would be 1705 damage. 1107,1 DPS. Watch that Atlas MELT! Banshees even more so.

I loved this class a lot before, but now... This be crazy! These buffs are more than enough to compensate on the slow activation and still somewhat limited range. Now go on soldier, Smash your enemies into tiny bits!

Edit.
Ugh, I kind of forgot that the cooldown actually starts only after it casts the shockwaves or whatever, so you can't actually spam it every 1,54 seconds when you take the slow activation into account. So ignore the DPS calculations.

Great Guide,

One Question: Ist it possible to do a biotic combo (explosion) by using Smash AND Lash?

So that you first hit the target with Smash and then detonate with Lash?

Or does it only work with Charge?

--

I think I go 6/6/6/4/4. I like to have a little bit more Health :D

new smash is completely and utterly ridiculous. expect a few updates to the build based on these most recent balance changes.

it is quite possible. the only two things you have to worry about with BEs is that 1. the power you want to use to detonate is not the same as the power used to prime, and 2. the second power (lash) meets the parameters for having its biotic effect applied. you can smash + lash anything that's not an armored target.

in response to the second part, 6/6/6/5/3 is now just as viable as the things i have listed. that will be part of the updates. simply follow the glass cannon build, but skip the final evolution of phoenix training, and put 3 ranks into fitness.

Thanks a lot :)

Why do you prefer 6/6/6/5/3 over 6/6/6/4/4 ? =)

What do you think about 6/6/4/4/6 ?

So you got full Health/Shields. and IMO you dont need the Lash at Rank 6, cause the recharge time is pretty low, though.

And Lash against Barriers and Shields? Hmm, don't know if it's neccesary .. other opinions? =)

Or 6/6/3/5/6 ? Damn, there are ****ing many options :D

you need lash at 6 for the shield/barrier penetration. makes cerberus as a whole, hunters, rocket troopers, marauders, cannibals, and husks a cakewalk. 6/6/6/5/3 gets you all ranks in your offensive abilities (very important), 2 power damage upgrades, and some extra fitness, if you think that'll help.

if you still need to be sold on lash 6, watch the cerberus vid in the op.

I played around with the PV last night (on lowly silver) after the change hit. With the cooldown and range buff, something really clicked for me with the class. Not sure why it needed a damage buff too but whatever.

Hey, anyone wants to do a "roleplay" run with Phoenixes?

We make a thread, make a video with music and all that yada-yada. I'm on PC.

I liked the class before the patch.. albeit squishy, it holds a lot of charm. Post patch, however, I very much love it.

It still has a steep learning curve and it most certainly is not for everyone - but if you can master it and learn to mind your surroundings (to evade and flank enemies) you will be a total boss :P. I guess that it what appeals to me - the prospect of doing well with a class a lot of folks muck up with :P unlike joining the horde of Infiltrator elites that tend to carry most games

I rolled out with a an incomplete lash buildwheb I first unlocked him - but I would higly recommend 6/6/6/5/3. The extra firepower outweighs the survivability, as long as you know when to GTFO (or, strategically relocate).. Keep whippin', smashguards!

Sub-Note: Double Detonations
Lash
is, to the best of my knowledge, the ONLY power that allows for two
biotic detonations on the same target with one cast. As stated above, if
you use Lash on a primed target, they will detonate in their current
location, and then be thrown. When they are thrown, they can be
detonated a SECOND time by any biotic power (besides Lash) during its
prime.

Excellent guide.

Just wanted to point out the asari Justicar double bubble.

Reave --> Bubble -->Reave gives you two BEs on one opponent as well and a 25% damage bonus while they are in the bubble.

I've been using "The Survivor," though I think your description of it is a bit demeaning: "for peple who are less confident in their play/still learning the character". With Smash's new-found utility on mobs and bosses alike, it's quite legit on Gold to take this build. In fact, I specced out of it to try the 6/6/6/5/3 build and noticed I couldn't withstand certain situations I could before involving Smash; ideally, with the Survivor build I could get away with aggressive play that only took my shields down before I could Charge rather than dipped into my health reserves constantly. Personally, I wasn't too fond of Lash rank 6 in exchange for the option for better guns and lower health, as I only found it truly useful on Cerberus, and even then only on Engineers/Phantoms, which a good team can compensate for (I roll with a team, not PUGs).

I don't know, that was my take on it. 6/6/6/5/3 is probably the all-around more versatile build, but with smart uses of Charge, a Shield Booster V, and Smash's insane cooldown letting mobs and Phantoms alike die with low risk while out in the open, I personally do better with The Survivor build on Gold.

just used him yesterday for the 1st time since the buff and he is now a bad ass for sure. his power cooldown is near instant if you pack light and smash does major damage and knocks back and lash kills the little guys easily

Tried the class for few games. I have to say that it's a fun class alright, I like the aoe-melee (replaces the nova really well tbh!) and the pull ability is just what I wanted for my human vanguard.

But the Smash ability... dunno, doesn't seem to hit but one target, despite the loooooong animation and it does just ok damage. Not to mention it triggers the cooldown. Granted, it's an ability you only use at certain sittulations, but still. Found myself not using it that often and just using the heavy melee a lot more.

Good class thou, I enjoy the diversity it has compaired to normal Vanguard class. And I'm loving the "pull" ability.
