Some may have felt that Marionetten comment was out of place, sure it might have crossed the line. but also bear in mind you need space to cast a spell, the whole wand waving, staff twirling bit, while a dagger hidden up the sleave.......I think you can get the picture
btw Arcane Conven vs Rouges Den as of 9:35 Monday morning October 19, 2009
The Conven has 10 mages, while the Den has 17 rouges. Just from the numbers it would be obvious that unless the mages could launch a fireball from above 3 miles away, then the rogues would survive a attack/raid
In all actuality the rogues dont need magic, and will rogues prefer to avoid hand-to-hand combat, we are still proficient with it, while the mages can just whack people with their staffs.

Fact is, mages are superior to everyone else. We're untouchable... invincible. Sneaking up on us is meaningless when we're warded against common forms of attack, and woe betide any thief foolish enough to sneak into our lairs where minions and deadly glyphs a'plenty await.

Honestly, what's the point of playing a fantasy game without the ability to preform magic?

The Arcane Coven has fewer members than the Rogue's Den because mages are *special*. We are part of an esteemed and *elite* few. Only gifted individuals born with the spark of magic can join, and of those only the intelligent and strong willed among us thrive. Rogues are the salt of the earth. Anyone that can cut a purse string and hold a knife properly can be a rogue. How much skill does that take? Even I can stab something in the back with a knife, if I were so inclined.

Ahhh, so thats what this comes down to.....you mages think you're better than the rest of us because we cant do magic. Well id like to introduce you to my little friend. It is called enchanted dragonbone arrows.
It seems like your shields, glyphs and minions wont help you very much

pity on those who have to resort to other powers to solve problems for them, and cant kill with their own power
Nothing, and i do mean nothing can replace the deeply satisfying "thunk" as your broadhead arrow buries itself into the head of a darkspawn easily dropping it before you can cast your spell

Well techinically bows and arrows are tools.. not quite your "own" power.. now if we could strangle one of the darkspawn with our own bare hands.. now that would be our own power heh.

And surely you can't be comparing a 'thunk' sound to the satisfaction of burning your foes alive by the dozen by your will alone? We need not hide behind clunky armor, nor must we extend our reach to our enemies with man-made weaponry. We need only our minds.

Firstly my delusional friend, we do not *think* ourselves superior to those incapable of harnessing magic. We *know* this to be true. The Chantry's fear and well hidden envy of the common people is proof enough of that.
As for your arrows, they do indeed hurt. But perhaps you have forgotten our healing capabilities? Plink away at us with those toys as long as you wish. We will recover from every blow none the worse for wear.

Don't underestimate the power of the shadows either! You won't see us coming, & never know when we will strike. It's folly not to beware what you can't see... Wards, schmoards! You can't hug them forever, unless you fear us so much that you forsake your duties, your self maintenance, even your sleep, to hug your precious wards for protection & try to keep vigilant!
Warriors are more than the skulls under their helms, & rogues are more than wise enough to know full well the wisdom of the story of the One-Trick Pony. Magic is cool, but arrogance is not. If you think you're better than everyone, I got news for ya. That arrogance isn't your friend. It's a rogue saboteur of the mind sabotaging your guard & vigilance, opening us rogues a window of opportunity to strike a vunerability you didn't even notice had appeared where you thought you were still strong...

WOW! A mage with some common sense, lol. JK I think your idea is genius, and brings up a serious issue. What happens if your mage runs out of mana, your tank has tanked his/her max, and now your rogue/archer is out of "ammo"?
In the game what would happen? You either run back to camp or something, or revert to an older save file quickly before you see the horde make mince meat out of your PC and NPC team??----------This is a serious question, despite the mage vs rogue banter

Wow, the rogues really get no respect around here. It makes one seem that your Mage-like view on rogues, is like the dirt on your boot heel you dont even expend the energy to wipe off???
I feel a very good and friendly competition arising from all of this. I for one would be willing to do some PvP!!!! Obviously there is no possibility for that yet, but one can hope?
So, how to resolve this conflict, and where to draw the lines. The warrior class can decided which side to take, but regardless what i say we do, is once the game comes out we start comparing stats, and see how many high-lvls in each respective class there are and go from there. I could write a program in C++ to do simulations of character battles, if we have access to any code from DA, specifically that pertaining to battles.
I love competition, and have gained many friends over the years by competing against one-another. Its important to remember though that this is all friendly, and should remain so. Its just interesting that a Mage vs. Ranger/rogue rivalry always or most of the time develops in fantasy games. This is what makes this forum so great!
Rogues still all the way!!!!!
------------>Oh and if we did run out of arrows, we would start strangling you hypo critic mages with our bowstrings

Mages tend to be the ones who are totally nuts in RPGs.
It's mostly because the public (or in this case the hero who visits the nuts mage) may or may not see the mage's intention evil.
For example, if a mage turned himself into a lich(I don't know whether there is an equivalent of a lich in DA) in order research a way to create and control huge armies of dragons in order to fight the darkspawn, most people would paint him as evil because he/she's a lich(ignoring the fact that dragons would ravage the countryside for food...). Whether the mage is nuts or not really depends upon the story but usually you'll get a crazy one in order to spice up the conversation(you don't want a mage who turns you into ash just because you chose the wrong conversation...).

oh noes!!! invisible bowstrings!
and btw, this mage has enough sense to realize the value of rogues; We are the brains and firepower, you are the eyes and ears, (and other body parts if the need arises), and together we could be invincible! We cannot be vinced! (i've always wanted to say that!
anyway,
