Your hardware is unsupported and inadequate, exactly as the game box warning label already told you. You should expect continued problems until you get a more useful PC for game playing (and although there is potential for a graphics upgrade, the CPU is comparatively slow, and the chipset is quitely likely already damaged from the overstress and the overheat it wasn't designed to withstand).

It ran mass effect 1 through 2 play throughs on medium settings without crashing. Same with me2 I've done all of omega up till that point. so it seems quite adequate.

"Ran" is a great exaggeration. Intel's video is unable to "run" games' it can "walk" them until it gets fried, is all it can do. Look up the benchmarks.

To compare how poorly your junk video performed before it was ovcercooked, against what the game's requirements call for, yes.

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Hard Drive = 15 GB
DVD ROM = 1x Speed
Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible
Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input = Keyboard / Mouse
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater(**); ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.205, G.210, 310, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9100, 9200, and 9300, also (probably) GT 520/610; ATI Radeon X1300, X1550, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4380, 4550, and (probably) HD 6370 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

well i honestly don't think that's the problem because if i increase the settings i can actually get farther before it crashes. i managed to get the door open with max settings before it crashes.

Bioware specifically TOLD you on the side of their game box that your machine is not able to perform properly in their game, and they won't give you any official support.  I agree with them.  Intel video is junk.  Personally, I don't think that your CPU is good enough to consider a video upgrade, which would be bottlenecked by the comparative slowness of that component, if your machine has the option to accept a graphics upgrade (laptops, particularly, no not have the option).

It's your video card. Playing through Mass Effect 1 does not mean you can play Mass Effect 2, especially with a card that's mostly meant for video playback. You'll be doing yourself a favor to pick up a decent video card.
