The reason that scene is so horrible is because it turns the entire series into...something it isn't. We never really knew Shepard, or Liara, or Garrus, or Tali. It was all just some crap a senile old man made up. And guess what? They're long dead. They've been dead for hundreds of years. Or they never existed in the first place.

Even the current scene doesn't do anything like that actually... The only disadvantage it has is that it's too short. The scene just needs to be extended.
