It's not even that hard.

I just spam the scanner, then ninja the assets right out from under the Reapers noses by jumping in and out of the system.

I think it's something that seems harder the first time you play the game. Once you've had the chance to expierment with it, you realize it's actually not that hard.

you guys are missing the point. i don't think anyone's complaining about it being difficult or anything, but rather just different tonally compared to what we're used to when it comes to exploring the galaxy. it almost totally eliminates the joy of exploration.

The Reaper minigame makes sense, in my opinion, but it just gets tedious after your first playthrough. That's why I modded my game so the Normandy's scanning range covers the entire system in a single scan. :P

Yeah this is what I did too. It's an interesting concept but it just doesn't wrok in reality though. What I did first was scan the system like mad and found everything, let them kill me, then go to the places I found. In hindsight they might as well have skipped the whole reaper awareness thing and just lef tus with the scanning.

its not hard.  it was never hard.

its just tedious and generaly annoying.  and not nearly as skippable as planet scanning in ME2 was, becasue scanning here is tied to completing fetch quests aka war assets.  unless of course you play MP and/or mod your war asset values.

The Reaper "minigame" is designed so that you have scan strategically, and not fly around hitting the button over and over and over and over and over again. Not to mention that the Reapers on the Galaxy Map are REALLY easy to avoid, I really don't see what there is to complain about. It helped me to not forget that Reapers are actually around.

Some of us are complaining because it's utterly pointless. Never said it was hard.

To me, it's not a fun minigame. And how much strategy is there to it anyway? If you want, you can just fly in and out of systems spamming the scanner and quickly pick up what you find.

Jade Empire, another BioWare game, DID have a decent minigame, and one you weren't really forced to play. Same with KotOR.

The Reapers seem a bit pathetic in the Galaxy Map. Sure I was caught off guard the first time I heard the "BRRRRRMMMMM" but after that I got so used to it that now before leaving a system I wait by the Relay and spam the scanner to attract the Reapers and then leave as soon as they show up.
Problem Reapers?

Then it captures the desperation of scouring the galaxy looking for anything that could possibly help against the Reapers.  Exploration of that kind isn't a pleasure cruise, or a money grab, like in the previous games.  The tone of this game in general is supposed to exudes desperation and death.  This mini-game fits in with that by not having a totally safe galaxy exploration aspect.

Granted, it can get annoying with how easily the Reapers show up sometimes.  In several systems with more than two assets, you only get two scans, and the Reapers show on the second.  How are you supposed to find everything without doing the cheap "leave and come back" strategy?  I also didn't like how fuel depots were counted as an asset.  So I'd look on all the planets, dodging Reapers, only to discover that the last asset was a fuel depot that gave me fuel that I didn't need, or just gave me a tiny amount, like 50 or something.  That bugged me.

Once you start scanning the system it's too late for sightseeing anyway. The reapers only care about you once you press that button, so you can still relax and read up on the planets to your heart's content- Just do your scanning after.

Exactly. This is how it annoyed me. It just felt unnecessarily frustrating more times than it should. Would've been better off if they had simply kept ME2's scanning mechanic.

For the record, the alertness resets after missions. I think this is how you are supposed to get enough scans. I'm sure glad there's a cheap trick I can use instead.

I know what it's supposed to show. Desperation and all that. You are at war after all. However, if it gets annoying very quickly then it really isn't a good mechanic and it would have been better to leave it out or do something else instead.

If you on the pc, via coalsced editing you can remove the reaper mini game crap. I prefer my galaxy map experience better without the stupid reaper chase

exploring the galaxy was something i always found calming. i understand that the HOLY **** REAPERS addition makes sense given what's going on, but it's just not as enjoyable.

Likewise, I understand the logic behind the mini game but I really, really hate it.

OP- As a general rule, if you ever think of a topic that starts "Am I the only one who..." The answer is no.

That said, while I understand the point of the mini-game as a reflection of the danger presented by the reapers and find it infinitely better than endlessly scanning for minerals, it does get a bit tedious after a while.

It got tedious after my first system scan for me. I then knew i would be dogged by that annoyance for my entire playthrough. God bless the people who figured out how to remove it

It makes it pointless given the ending of the game. You could have been crafty and quick, but in the end, you're still blue, green, or red. Or refuse, which isn't really an ending anyway.

A few tips.

First of all, scan around planets.
Pick outer planets first. Since these are closest to where the Reapers will enter the system.
Then Send out pulses in the spaces inbetween planets.
Try leaving once the Reapers alertness reaches 50% (easier said than done).
Return. You'll find that the Reapers alertness will remain at x% and not continue to rise until you send a new pulse.

If you feel like cheating, just google for war assets guides.
Remember. War Assets mean nothing. Yeah I said it. They don't mean a great deal.
Play a bit of multiplayer, get a few promotions, and do a couple of Citadel Quests and you're sorted for getting all four options.
Furthermore, best possible ending is just Shepard breathing in destroy ending. So, those extra war assets aren't getting you anything useful.

I just fly around spamming scan until everything is discovered, when the reapers come just exit the map if they get too close and keep re-entering until you start close to an unexplored artifact/fuel deposit. Its really really easy to not get caught( I only got caught once and it is game over - continue starts you right before you got caught so is pointless)
