It would also help if all the tweets from devs saying "ohh it wont be very big/long" came earlier than 1 minute before conference started. Say, 4 weeks ago would be good.
Also NeoGAF poll on the impression the trailer created:

This could be why they wanted to go first, so they could take some time, do some PR damage control, and then spit out some info about the game before the end of E3, too.
I dunno, I'm spitballing at this point.

Man, release date worries aside, that thread is SO MUCH MORE POSITIVE than pretty much anything we've got going on.
Mabbe I should finally get around to making that NeoGAF account...
if they hadn't fueled the hype that much, no information would be perfectly fine. But they kept talking about how they will blow our minds with all the awesome stuff that they intend to present at e3. now instead we got this load of BS.

That's why I never believed the hype and set my expectations low. I got steam rolled by addicted fans a few times because I said it as I saw it.
So when is this other thing tomorrow with Aaryn Flynn happening?

Kotaku: BioWare Wants Mass Effect Andromeda To Recapture The First Game's Wonder
http://kotaku.com/bi...dium=Socialflow
Vaguely, though: Walters said the team is trying to blend the cinematic, linear missions people liked in the previous Mass Effects with a richer, more open experience on the surfaces of the worlds players explore. “We want to lean into that open-world experience. We don’t want you to feel like you’ve landed on the planet with one objective and then leave the planet. We want you to spend some time there.”
BioWare knows when Andromeda takes place, for example, but they want to be vague about it publicly. “I think it’s fair to say that with even the most creative scientific advancements, it’s hundreds of years to travel to Andromeda,” Walters said. “So that should give you some sense of how far in the future it might be.”
Here’s one thing some trilogy fans may appreciate knowing: they’re determined to nail the ending this time, especially after the divided fan reaction to Mass Effect 3’s ending. “I think it’s fair to say we are very sensitive on the project about our ending. And we a lot of internal focus testing on it as well,” Walters said. “That’s probably something we’re more aware of and we’re paying more attention to it for sure. It’s changed in that regard.”

I don't think people really care how far in the future the game is set. They care more about when the voyage started, with all the implications about the endings.
My point exactly. By not affixing a general estimate to the end of the trailer ("Spring 2017" for example) and not showing any gameplay, they give off the impression that the game won't be out for at least another year. It doesn't matter how much they say it'll be out earlier because we have no reason to believe them based on what we saw.

I don't agree with their planning, but 9 months is plenty of time to show your game. Bethesda started to show Fallout at E3 just a few months before release.
I do understand why people are skiptical about the release date or disappointed about the trailer though, so it's fair to have lowered expectations. In one way or another N7 will clear things on the state of the game and when it'll be released.
From the same article:
“If you go back to the original Mass Effect, there was that sort of awe of going to a new galaxy and meeting all these aliens for the first time—new races, new cultures, new civilizations,” Andromeda’s creative director, Mac Walters, told us in Los Angeles during an EA gaming showcase today. “We want to bring that back.”
Andromeda, which is set to come out in early 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, takes place far away from the other Mass Effect games; it’s set in an entirely different galaxy. You’re playing as a human, but you should feel like an alien, too, Walters stressed. “The twist we are putting on it is that this isn’t your home. Here, everybody is looking at you and going ‘Who are you?’ as well.”
Well, so much for hoping the delay would result in being able to play as one of the alien races. ![]()

Flynn already confirmed the plot was human centric on stage. I'm sorry for you, though I didn't think there were any chances in the alien PC option. the ME team talked in a different way about the human-only PC compared to DAI's back in the day.
I do wonder why we'll have salarians, asari and krogans, if not other ME aliens, in our team and ship if our job is to find a new home for humanity. I get that, and it makes sense (to me at least) that the various species will find their own home ,but then why are there rapresentatives on our ship?

But here's the thing: From a marketing perspective, E3 is your best shot. They showed almost nothing compared to the massive blowout Bethesda had last year. After that is Gamescom. If the game isn't shown in a playable state there, they will have missed out on the two biggest trade shows in the industry, which is very bad. Nobody who isn't already invested in the franchise will give a flying **** about N7 Day, or even know to look for it in the first place.
I did say I didn't agree with their planning. I just think 9 months is enough time to release info.
Though there's the easy chang the game will be delayed again and they'll go at next E3.

True, but like with the trailers part of me hoped that might just be them focusing on humanity as a marketing ploy. But I guess that part of me was just deluding myself and instead we are once again not being part of a galactic community but instead focusing on a human-centric ego-stroking plot.
One day they will release something I like about this game, right? Or am I merely deluding myself again by thinking that too. ![]()

Well, I think it makes sense that each species find their own planets to colonize in Andromeda.
I don't think we're not part of the MW galactic community, though I can understand why focusing on humanity's colonization might disappoint some people.
I don't know what to say. I'd say it's likely something about the game will be more of your liking, but maybe having lower to none expectations would be better.

I agree with that. After all each species has different needs. But like you said, having the story focus on humanity rather than the community as a whole is disappointing, especially since for the first time in our cycle's history we are all in the same boat, literally and metaphorically.
Yeah, guess I have no choice now but to break out the "Always assume the worst, that way you are never disappointed." mindset. Never thought I would have to for a Mass Effect game.
Great, we get a female only protagonist who looks like a cross between Lara Croft and Sera, and a male asari love interest that looks like the hamburglar. BioWare you have betrayed us!
