To some people I've met, it is.

I have no problem with people seeking help, but people do have control over how much they let the words of others affect and influence them. People who claim to have PTSD from reading mean comments on the internet have themselves partially to blame for investing so much in the opinions of random people online.

 

If we follow the thread back to my original post on page 1043:

"Isn't that like saying you went to therapy because some people online yelled at you? Emotional trauma is emotional trauma. I'm not sure the source matters."

The conversation seems to have come full circle, so I think it's probably best to leave it there.

Well way back when Chris Wynn was still at BioWare, he said they'd be going to Gamescom. Not sure if that'd still hold up though... 

 

I'm not sure it will, since they've been keen to stress autumn as the next time they'd reveal stuff.

No, they weren't just "called out." A lot happens during development. Everyone was working hard, maybe harder than they've ever worked on any other project. For many of them it was a decade long labour of love. Yeah they misfired on the ending, but the constant bashing against devs was way out of line. If you think death threats and demands for devs to be fired is remotely comparable to us getting a bad ending then you need to take a moment and chill. And don't even tell me that it was just a small group of trolls that don't represent us. People have been calling for Mac's job for years and I saw more than a few "good riddance" comments after Casey left. 

 

What happened with Casey still irks me at best and sickens me at worst. The man poured everything into this series from the very beginning all to be vilified over 15 minutes of (for some) not so enthralling storytelling. It's the same with Mac. Express your right to showcase displeasure, sure, but some fans forget that BioWare isn't a formless name, it's a body of real people.

What drives me nuts is the people who go around like "OMG the entire series is ruined!!! Mass Effect universe sucks!!!! Ending sux!!!!!! Everything sucks!!!" just because of the ending. I don't understand how someone can let a few minutes ruin everything. They must have really sad and pathetic lives if they really let anything ruin everything. If I let the ending of something ruin the whole experience I wouldn't even be a gamer, hell I wouldn't even see movies or series or read books. It's okay to criticize or not like something, but the entire ending circlejerk took it to a whole new level never seen before or since.

Well, I think that Mac Walters really tried to emphasize the endings as a grey scenario.  You knew that you'd die.  Everybody knew that Shepard would die.  But it's for the betterment of the galaxy, so s/he did it.  

 

The colors don't really matter.  I mean, heck.  I was fine with the pre-EC endings as well.

Does becoming a Reaper really say s/he died? I feel like Reaper Shep, is Shepard, and not just a computer with Shepard's memories. If Shepard is dead when we choose destroy, and the N7 we see breathing is N7Guy in Andromeda (Ryder sibling?)... I'm totally cool with that.

Just to add to this, I think people also don't realise HOW MUCH WORK and effort is put into making a game. I'm studying Game Art & Design right now and I just spent 30 hours making a small 3D ship!!

 

And games are art... stories, building the world.. all of that. You literally put your soul into making things like that.

 

So I couldn't disagree more when people say that being disappointed by art that someone ELSE made is the same as being attacked and abused for art that you made YOURSELF. It's like when little kids draw a picture and show their parents, but the parents tell 'em it's **** and they should just stop drawing. And how sad the kid would get after that. Constructive criticism is fine, simply abusing someone because you didn't get 'your' happy ending IS NOT.

 

 

*I would just like to say that if this does not make sense, I apologise. I was a few pages behind and have gotten so riled up from these heartless people who think it's okay to abuse people at all let alone for something like the ending of a story ffs.

Exactly, Shepard doesnt die in Control. His mind is uploaded to become the new Reaper master consciousness. (Uploading a mind into a technological construct is already an existing concept in ME, see Virtual Aliens)

Those look pretty cozy, but I'd be afraid to get them dirty. I've got an N7 hoodie in my closet that I almost never wear. I don't want my white stripe to get stained. I've worn it all of three times since I got it two years ago.

The side conversation that's been going on has merit, but would you guys mind starting a new thread about it? I don't want this thread getting unpinned for straying OT too many times.

They can say "Franchise ruined!!!" all day long for all I care. Even the harshest and most hyperbolic criticism of the game is ok. Going in personal direction though, harassing developers and displaying mentality of a 13th-century farmer on a witch-hunt scapegoat crusade is unacceptable and way too many people cannot comperhend the difference between even the harshest criticism of a game/movie/product on the internet and idotic personal attacks on the creators.

I agree. The ending made me cry for real (even with the extended cut and my Shepard alive, I know, I'm too emotive...). But it certainly never ruined my pleasure as a gamer. I loved everything in the trilogy, it was a wonderful experience, the last 15 minutes ending will never change that !
