Walters said you can infer the timing by the fact that your actions and choices won't affect ME:A .

Note:

The studio specifically mentioned that the ARKs left before the ME3 ending.

Hmm...They stated MEA takes place after ME3 in their blog.

Strange.

No. They stated MEA takes place after ME3, nothing else was mentioned.

You leave prior to the ending, you arrive and the story takes place long (several hundred years) after ME3.

How long prior to the ending is still very much in question, though.

Which means either a pre-Reaper War launch, or it takes place so far in the future that the decisions made have had time to settle into a relatively "universal" world-state.

I guess I'm surprised some many people didn't take the RPG thing for granted   I did.

Correct.

The departure of the ARKs is before the ME3 ending but the voyage took centuries thus, when the game starts, it's after ME3.

Walters said it's a cover shooter. Combine both and you get a cover shooter RPG. No?

Well  no one has ever confirmed exactly when the ARK departure is. Mac walters said about infering whend it happened, but that's a superficial comment. It is only assumed it was before the ending of ME3 for a couple of reasons:

1) If it happened before ME3 ending, then all that Shepard did , i mean his choices, won't affect anything in Andromeda at all because they have left everything before the Reapers attacked Earth, making this new game's storyline free from any choice you made on ME3 and able to create a new story, separately.

2)There is actually a conversation with the Asari counsilor inside the Normandy in ME3, in which Shepard talks about the lost fight in Thessia and she replies that she have to make preparations and set a plan in motion so that civilization can continue. See that video (skip to 6:00)

Guys, it's Mass Effect. They're not changing what kind of genre it is. Don't worry.

I have a tiny update in the 'Four new books' thread, because I ran into this older brochure from 2015 in which the first novel was originally titled the Pathfinder Initiative. They changed that to Andromeda Initiative. In game too?

I didnt have doubts about the game being an rpg, but I guess I can see how some people were concerned, what with Aaryn and Mac emphasizing how much of a third person cover shooter it is, and Yanick in a another interview saying how it only had rpg "elements." It just comes down to context and wording.

That would explain the t-shirts and in-game armor logo...

I prefered the Pathfinder logo. Today there was news about No Man's Sky having been in a three year struggle with the company Sky about infringment, might that also have happened here I wonder...

I wonder if it had changed it to avoid confusion with the Pathfinder RPG (which, of course, has D&D's "Initiative" mechanic). ;)

Maybe they ditched the Pathfinder logo after goobers like myself pointed out the similarities to Cerberus' branding.

How BioWare Plans To Keep 'Mass Effect: Andromeda' True To Its Roots

"If you think about a process where you go to sleep and then 600 years later you wake up, but for you no time has passed, the last thing you'd think before you go to sleep is "are we going to make it? "

600 year voyage confirmed?

Well, Aaryn answered a girl on the same question. She guessed 400 years and he tells her: "Not a bad guess". So its pretty much something around this.

Doesnt make any difference to me if it is 400 or 600. It is still a few fundred years later.

Considering that the trip using the speed Reapers can travel, would take like roughly 220 years to get there.

But according to mass effect wiki, human FTL drives travel slower than the Reapers, so it is presumably around 400-600 years indeed.

Quote from wiki:

The exact FTL speeds at which starships of the modern galaxy travel are unknown. It is noted, however, that Reapersare believed to be capable of traveling nearly 30 light-years (283,821,914,177,424,000 meters) within a 24-hour period, and that this rate is roughly twice what Citadel starships are capable of traveling. This equates Reaper FTL capabilities to around 10,958 times the speed of light.

In comparison, by 2165, human starships are known to be capable of traveling at least fifty times faster the speed of light (14,989,622,900 meters per second).

Might have been confusing once we started fighting Cerberus in Andromeda, I agree.
