How'd you know what my reply would be, before I even typed it? It's like you have ESPn or something!

Well folks, if enough people join the VSN located here- http://vroomvroom.freeforums.net
Sections will be opened up to talk more about DA and ME. So consider signing up. Bunch of old school BSNers there already, could use more.
And maybe you should realize that stupid comments like "they've behaved like petulant children" and the assorted accusations, name-calling, vitriol, etc. from the less well-behaved forum users are exactly the kinds of things that contributed to these forums being shut down.
Since the forums are shutting down, I feel like I can be perfectly honest about what I think of this whole mess. I pretty firmly believe that it's thanks to people like you who think that accusing the devs of behaving like petulant children after they've had to deal with years of outright abuse after the ME3 endings that these forums are being shut down. You and anyone else who ever wrote something similar and/or those who have written much, much nastier things (I have seen extremely vicious and crazy posts in here, including death threats/threats of violence, etc.) are the ones to thank for all of this.
Per what I said in the official thread about the forums being shut down, BW could have (and should have) taken control of the situation after things got worse in the forums, with better moderating and a zero-tolerance policy on toxic behavior. If they'd taken a much firmer stance early on, then maybe things wouldn't have ended up like this. I remember a time when people could at least manage to be mostly civil and when there were productive threads with good critiques, etc., but that mostly died out a while back.
I'll tell you one thing: I'm glad that I will no longer be subjected to a post like yours ever again after these forums are finally closed. I guess there's always a silver lining, even in situations like this one!
Oh, and a special note to all the people who couldn't write a single mature post if their lives depended on it: You can all give yourselves a giant pat on your backs for dragging those of us who could (and mostly did) act like adults into this situation - congratulations! I hope it was really worth it to all of you to be able to insult the devs practically nonstop, etc.! Look where that got all of us.

What do you want a cookie or a cake for being "mature"?

Totally agree that some of the posts were "outright abuse".
Probably in the end, this is the easiest solution for Bioware.
They retreat to venues where they can much better avoid this toxicity.
As much as I hate to see the loss of diversity that is present here at BSN, too many people take too much advantage of the freedom of speech that Bioware typically prefers to engender (with some notable exceptions of course.)
Don't think Bioware is philosohpically capable of the kind of moderation that would be required.
A sad dark day for this kid :\
Back on topic, hopefully Hrungr and elitepinecone will find a way to keep one of the very positive aspects of BSN alive - this twitter amalgamation and comment thread,
Thank you to all the people like O Ventus and Hungr that informed us all, for ME3, ME:A etc.
Today is a sad day indeed.
now that sucks
and what is the real reason? other than official blah blah blah

Fellow hopeless forum dwellers, just thought I'd post and say that I'm trying to collect some known sites that others may drift to when this place---ahem. All links are in my sig. And don't forget to check out the Help section (also in my sig) as there's a lot of New Forum Possibilities being discussed there.
I'd like to think they'll change their minds about destroying this place, but... Well.

I understand that there are people in the forums who can say rather nasty things to the dev's (it happened with one of the DA:2 dev's but I don't know her name) and Bioware shouldn't have to put up with it. But closing down the forums altogether is actually counterproductive to dealing with those problems, better moderation of the forums and improving the site rules would've been a more effective solution.

Well that sucks, on the other hand I will never have to see another post from Chronoid again, so silver linings and all that.

Cheers, It's been fun!
I even miss Bevnau (and not-Brevnau)
On topic:
Can anyone help me please - I'm listing the hashtags that would be best followed on twitter for tweets about Mass Effect Andromeda, what is normally used?
I've jumped onto Cassandra's group here: http://biowaresocial...-twitter-thread
(not with any disrespect to other groups, but the BSN community needs a home not a sub-forum of something else.)
So other than the rather obvious '#MassEffect', what's used out there people? ![]()
WARNING WALL OF TEXT INCOMING (hide the children)
I'm honestly amazed at all these rose colored glasses a lot of folks seem to be wearing on the BSN forums now. The twitter threads were an awesome concept in theory, one place to gather all the the relevant info through tireless efforts of people like Hrungr, LadySif, ElitePinecone and others, in practice however, it didn't take very long for others to abuse the huge traffic of the twitter threads. I remember many times when i would wade though 10+ pages of a twitter thread and only find two actual twitter posts among the refuse. Never mind the reaction and discussion posts about the tweets, those are understandable, but the amount of completely irrelevant posts that had no business being in a twitter thread was astounding and bordering on ridiculous. It would take a entire moderating team months probably just to clear one thread up.
I assume BW looked to their contemporaries and their forums (Blizzard, CD PRojektRed, Bethesda, Obsidian, SquareEnix and others) and realized that BSN has gotten way out of hand. Need i remind you of all the garbage posting that took place after the EA Play Conference, the ugly posts about the female Ryder, the Asari and the general gloom and doom that was spreading around the forums. Hell, even the Twitter thread has been getting more and more cynical since EA Play. People unsatisfied by the info they got, unsatisfied by the lack of info or that Laidlaw wore a green tie on Friday (dramatization) and so on. Now BW shares the blame here too, for whatever reason they decided to employ quite lax moderation rules to BSN and the forums have suffered for it.
So what do you do when you have a community that is getting more negative by the day. You can either increase you moderation efforts and enforce stricter rules and risk being called a fascist who tramples on rights of free speech, or you can nip all of it in the bud and start over. I'm a firm believer that BSN forums will come back after the shut down, maybe a few months before the MEA release. IMO they will come back and look and work more like a game developer forum should. Instead of this garbled mess that BSN is now. Developers would be able to actually get involved in forum discussions without being immediately berated, insulted and threatened.
So here's hoping we'll reunite, likely minded folks on the new BSN forums, those of us that were actually excited for every new tweet and were here to share our love for the games and the respect for the developers.
PS: everyone should check out those other forums that folks are posting about. they will tide us over 'till BSN comes back. hope to see you there too.
Can anyone help me please - I'm listing the hashtags that would be best followed on twitter for tweets about Mass Effect Andromeda, what is normally used?
the devs use #space a lot when tweeting about MEA, so you can add that to the list
Any respect I had for Bioware is gone after this.
You know, you say things like this kind of a lot.
By the look of the Twitter feeds, BioWare are keeping their heads down...
@tibermoon Glad to see it all coming together so beautifully. Now if you'll excuse me, there's a campfire and lawn chair expecting me.
Just throughing this out there... let me get this right. The forum is shutting down, so why are staff members, locking threads that don't talk about Andromeda? Why do they care if Andromeda gets talked about or not? People are pissed enough, with the closing, so why act like you now care?
Well, well, what we have we here? I leave for a few days and everything goes to hell.
Actually, you had to feel this coming. They closed OT, and they've really withdrawn from the forums esp after DAI. The DA team was always much more active and chatty than the ME team, even before ME3 came out. ME devs were never really that involved (except for Jos, ofc). But really it was a big difference between the two.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with BSN being too toxic for them. I mean, you guys have seen Twitter, right? BSN is nothing compared to the vitriol thrown around on Twitter. Twitter is a friggin cesspit. Talk about toxic. Reddit is like the Walmart of forums. Alot of different stuff, but no real character, or soul. It's all processed.
BSN is like that Mom and Pop small business from back in the day. Character. Flavor. Life. Dissent. It may not look like much, but that's where you went to get the best food in town. Apparently, however, BW/EA wants to move to the "suburbs" ? Nice and quiet. Manicured lawns with a robust Home Owners Association. Comfortably homogeneous.
hmm..
I better get over to that other thread.
**I must say, this is the first news that has made me genuinely nervous for BW as a company.
By the look of the Twitter feeds, BioWare are keeping their heads down...
They probably not going to talk about it. "Just let them die"
