It's like BSN is getting ready to board its own personal ark ship, getting ready to be tested and sent out on a great mission. We'll say goodbye, but we'll never forget our roots.

And we will stick together wherever we land, and work together to survive and even thrive as a community. Just like the species in MEA will have to do. Mental preparation for MEA, this is! That's Bioware's secret plan!

Stick and work together? Why would we start now?

Well, well, what we have we here? I leave for a few days and everything goes to hell.

Actually, you had to feel this coming. They closed OT, and they've really withdrawn from the forums esp after DAI. The DA team was always much more active and chatty than the ME team, even before ME3 came out. ME devs were never really that involved (except for Jos, ofc). But really it was a big difference between the two.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with BSN being too toxic for them. I mean, you guys have seen Twitter, right? BSN is nothing compared to the vitriol thrown around on Twitter. Twitter is a friggin cesspit. Talk about toxic. Reddit is like the Walmart of forums. Alot of different stuff, but no real character, or soul. It's all processed.

BSN is like that Mom and Pop small business from back in the day. Character. Flavor. Life. Dissent. It may not look like much, but that's where you went to get the best food in town. Apparently, however, BW/EA wants to move to the "suburbs" ? Nice and quiet. Manicured lawns with a robust Home Owners Association. Comfortably homogeneous.

hmm..

I better get over to that other thread.

**I must say, this is the first news that has made me genuinely nervous for BW as a company.

That's the consensus we're gradually coming to.

And here I was believing the BS.

That would be one of the most hilarious marketing errors I've seen in my entire life. I envision an intern stumbling into a board meeting high as a kite going "bruuuhhh, I've got this AMAZING idea for the marketing campaign"

EA: How much are you charging?

Intern: Dave's not here, man.

EA: We'll pay you in chips.

End of the world (or forums, in our case) seem to have a way of bringing people together. I mean, why else would Krogans agree to work with Turians, or Geth with the Quarians, during ME3? It wasn't exactly casual board meetings that brought them together  :P . Same applies to BSN, at least for me.

Apparently my dog loves Andromeda: he barks each time I pause the game and stop only when I resume playing. I think he's in for the story.

sure won't but they just cut off the direct line of "communication" with fans that is the official forums of the game. Bloody hell even Battle.net, Rockstar. CDPR has tons of users on their forums posting continuously. This is an attempt to silence direct criticism and then claim "THEY LOVE ALL OF US" yeah right.

That's not going to stop criticism. At all. Which makes this even more confusing...

Is this for real?

Yes.  There won't be anything in there that we don't already know, since the interview would've took place during E3.

But on other (non-official) sites, you can just block anyone who's critical of you.  Making for a nice personal echo chamber.

I think criticism is a healthy thing, heck I've enjoyed our exchanges over the years.

For 3rd party sites to succeed they must embrace constructive criticism of BioWare and indeed the 3rd party site itself.

Outright trolling and hate is different, but that line must be carefully managed.

lets be real folks the amount of constructive criticism we have been giving BW on the BSN is incredibly minuscule compared to all the vitriol and just blind hate they were getting. It sounds sad but our voices have been drowned out.

This is just objectively untrue, and I say it as someone who has in the past been frustrated by people who just vent or outright troll. The vast, vast majority of people who frequent this place still overall enjoy their products and have been constructive in their criticisms when giving them. This place would've never had absolute monster threads discussing to the most minute details and often just gushing over individual characters if it was anywhere close to as "toxic" as it has been irrevocably labeled.

Yes it's a shame that any attempt to make constructive criticism has been subsumed in toxic and misinformed attacks.  It'll be crazy to expect it to be any better on social media, but at least the devs can get on with their actual work, without having to play childminder to those who want to stir up trouble.

Well, then someone needs to check the scoreboard, and tell me why BioWare's shutting the boards down.  'Cause it's happening, whether you like it or you don't.  I'm with the person above you.

I agree.

However, there is also a problem with some who critique the game and not directly troll: It seems fashionable to point out that if you dislike one aspect of the game then it is enough to dislike all of the game. I never understood that one.

That never kept me from posting, but it can be annoying.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This place becomes overwhelmingly negative leading up to and after a game launch. ME:A is half a year away still, and you could already see the vitriol surging, even before they announced the forum closure.

Furthermore, many of the people who are now claiming that this is being done to censor their constructive criticism are actually some of the worst repeat offenders here. Unfortunately, they don't see their behavior as a problem, and therefore they will never learn to behave.

As JacobNoor puts, it's irrevocably labelled as such. Doesn't seem to matter what the actual numbers are. A small number of bad apples can stand out and set the reputation.

Maybe their outsourced team of moderators should have done a better job at actually moderating then instead of ignoring the actual problems forever before deciding that we're all the problem. Laughably blatant troll threads created by a handful of repeat offenders that get to go on for dozens of pages with people who take them seriously falling for it, repeat ad nauseum until the public perception has become that everybody here is a troll.
