However, there is also a problem with some who critique the game and not directly troll: It seems fashionable to point out that if you dislike one aspect of the game then it is enough to dislike all of the game. I never understood that one.

Yeah, that's crazy to me; it's like they're going "HA! I found a flaw, therefore the game isn't perfect, therefore it is trash!"  Yet people complain about games sites using very limited scoring methods.

lets be real folks the amount of constructive criticism we have been giving BW on the BSN is incredibly minuscule compared to all the vitriol and just blind hate they were getting. It sounds sad but our voices have been drowned out.

You do have a point. Just remember the amount of stupid threads after the new MEA trailer... (bioware is also to blame since their moderators let those guys/girls lurk free)

That been said i wonder if they intend to drestoy this forum and create a new one close to Andromeda release.

I doubt that; if they started a new forum, the same people would come back, and if they wanted to just create a new forum, they'd swap over like they did from the old BSN.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. This place becomes overwhelmingly negative leading up to and after a game launch. ME:A is half a year away still, and you could already see the vitriol surging, even before they announced the forum closure.

Furthermore, many of the people who are now claiming that this is being done to censor their constructive criticism are actually some of the worst repeat offenders here. Unfortunately, they don't see their behavior as a problem, and therefore they will never learn to behave.

Hmm, it's hard to really gauge it the numbers right now. There's not much content to provide actual feedback on, so it's mostly just people getting paranoid over rumors, speculation, and the forum closing.

I think we'd have to think back to DAI pre-release, which more or less depended on the subforum you were in. Lot of arguments between detractors and defendors in feedback and scuttlebutt (except for the enthusiasm in the Twitter Thread), and gushing over characters in the story section.

Maybe their outsourced team of moderators should have done a better job at actually moderating then instead of ignoring the actual problems forever before deciding that we're all the problem. Laughably blatant troll threads created by a handful of repeat offenders that get to go on for dozens of pages with people who take them seriously falling for it, repeat ad nauseum until the public perception has become that everybody here is a troll.

And what do you do at the point where the negativity becomes so overwhelming that it's more than your team of moderators can handle? How many people should be working full-time just on keeping the forums clean? At what point do you decide that it's just too expensive to do it right?

I mean, let's be honest, there are only a few hundred people who post on these forums, and even fewer regulars. At some point you're sinking a lot of money into managing something of dubious value.

I can say that the DA:I forums got increasingly awful the closer we got to launch. The only difference this time with ME:A is that there's less information to overanalyze.

If the problem is moderation, it doesn't explain why Bioware isn't permanently archiving the forums rather than nuking them after only one month.  There are many useful resources in the threads here.

Well, a clean forum would make the moderators job more easy...

Kinda agree. Though, some created threads for shock value, imo. But, that's to be expected. I don't know how you'd control that, though.

Some of the negativism, can be thrown at Bio's feet. Their constant excitement tweets / interviews about the game but giving us vapourware, soured after a while.  Counter comments made to chain that vapourware to reality may indeed be viewed as a negative by the faithful. However, I hardly would call it toxic against Bio even when some members reacted in a vitriolic manner against any Bio criticism.

Basically, imo. Bio failed to manage the fans expectations by their own comportment. BTW, this is a company management 101 class = managing customer expectations.

What you think is stupid, is real and valid to others.

No, I don't think that's the problem. The problem is that forums can provide feedback that BW is unable to handle. These forums are not properly moderated. At first BW employees moderated the site in their spare time. Then volunteers helped them out. As the site grew, so did the work required to moderate. BW never invested in that, nor did they hire professional and motivated moderators. The ones we have now are outsourced, outnumbered, aren't invested in the game and its topics, and are hiding behind abstract IDs. Trolls are never banned. They do not understand the difference between criticism and trolling. So the place goes to hell.

The place has gone to hell, because BW has chosen to let it go in that direction. And now, it has become a problem. They cannot set back the clock and the forums are bad publicity and that is a problem for the marketing boys. So first the off-topic forum was shut down, but that didn't help in providing a better environment at all. That is like kicking an open door in, because those were never the problem. So, the only solution left was: Shut it all down.

It smells like a corporate culture driven by fear and money. If you truly believe that these forums are important to the community that you praise to the stars then you have to invest in it. Instead, BW kills their community, because they are afraid of what they have created.

Try posting this on twitter.

There's nothing new in the xbox magazine article I'm assuming?

Reading it now, it does actually have some new information.

The ark-like ship (one of them?) is called "The Hyperion".

The Tempest is Ryder's base of operations, and Aaryn Flynn didn't really answer when asked if we could fly it ourselves [the leaks suggest we can]. Mac and Aaryn said they're trying to push what Frostbite can do and what Mass Effect can do, in terms of locations and environments.

Part of the article hinted at outer-space environments/levels.

Lots of the feedback was absurd and toxic. Like, not enough cut-scenes despite having more than ME1. Or it's vaporware, which would indicate that the game never existed (yes, I'm looking at your Sartoz).

I did enjoy some of the back-and-forths, though. The 'Be More Like Witcher 3' thread eventually became surprisingly constructive.

Someone caught that from EA PLAY trailer. I think there was even thread for that (I can be wrong, since there was so many of them...). So not really something new.

The tempest being the base is obvious, but nice to be confirmed. Instead of the big colony sips.

It was the thread theorising there were 12 ships because Hyperion is one of 12 greek titans.

What? Are you really going to tell me that all those threads about asari eyebrows are somewhat relevant? They are just like that quarian sweat thread,  crazy and nonsense.

Actually the vapourware applies to information about the game, not its existence, which I have posted its launch date many a times.
