Well those numbers don't tell the whole story, since just under half (250,000 or so) of those 537,489 members never posted at all, and only around a fifth (184,000) ever got past one post, 32,000 got more than 50, 22,000 past the 100 mark and only 4000 reached 1000 or more.

Some people like me may not post much but do visit to read the twitter thread, features threads, tech support threads, etc. So post count is not the whole picture, either.

I wonder if we'll have an info leak before N7 day...

I'll never know because it will happen on reddit or neogaf.

That's a possibility. I did look out and the only EA studio that has a forum is BioWare.

Nope, Maxis has it's own forums and DICE has Battlelog.

What if it isn't Bioware who took the decision to shut down the BSN?

What if it was an order from EA?

Is there any way to confirm which company DID issue that order?

I doubt it was EA. This has a feeling of vengeance about it not corporate streamlining.

Vengeance? I'm going with the feeling of the BW employees being tired of dealing with a community that could be extremely abusive and all the stress that it was causing them when they did try to interact and reach out to users who, at a certain point, didn't actually deserve any kind of interaction whatsoever based on their poor behavior.

There's a reason that most of the devs stopped showing up, and it's certainly not because they couldn't deal with normal and respectful critiques. This place turned into a cesspit after ME3 and never really recovered from it. Saying that the closure is some sort of act of vengeance or retribution is just plain silly.

I suspect BioWare, but only a select few people. I dont believe that all the people at BioWare actually want this forum gone (Or rather thats what i want to believe anyway) From all the info whizzing around here lately, the general 'consensus' (if you can call it that) seems to be that BioWare want to erase the past, all the negative backlashes, these few people at BioWare just want it gone and they seem to think erasing the forums will accomplish this. And they've wrapped that up in all the nice words like "We will still listen to the community" while calling us toxic behind our backs. (Dont get me wrong, this place has had its share of toxicity there is no denying that)  If that really is their intention i dont see how that will work, there would be evidence of BioWare's past everywhere, on third party forums, old videos, old news reports and such... What they gonna do, deny it ever happened? Keep quiet?

Trying to expunge every trace of this place doesn't feel a neutral act.

If you believe Priestly some senior people have wanted this place killed for years.

Their excuses for closure come across as very lame. The fact that devs don't post here anymore(not that they did much anyway) is rather a red herring imo.

That sounds pretty conspiratorial. I know people are upset, but it's not like they're coming around to your house and setting it on fire.

I'm gone for like a month and when I come back I see the forums are closing down.

I'll miss coming here. It was a pretty fun place for me for a while (5000+ posts lmao) and I always came back. I guess I'll be sticking to reddit for my information sources

Yup, I mainly just lurk. And half my posts are just snark anyway.

In this little community of ours I like to think of myself as someone's snotty little sibling who just hangs around with the older kids and occasionally tells weird and inappropriate jokes. I'm going to miss it.

In the concerning our forums thread.

Apparently "....people some pretty powerful wanted to shut the forums.." apparently they've been trying to get rid of this place since Dragon Age 2 and the people in it.

So people saying this was about ME3 ending war are completely off.

Oh, their poor little butterfly hearts!

Negativity seems like a supremely lame excuse. This is the Internet. You're going to find negativity wherever you go, here and everywhere else, in this gaming forum and in every other.

Frankly, I found their excuse hard to believe, not only because it is blatant corporate speak, but also because they rarely used these forums for feedback all that much anyway, even in the halcyon days before ME3.

That's a bit strong. Circling the wagons is more apropos. It's been what? four years since ME3 and 1.5 years since DA:I?

Both games received deserved criticism. But, why wait so long for this decision?

I believe it's a preventive strike against a possible and concentrated negative criticism for their upcoming ME:A...

perhaps for their secret IP as well. Look, Bio needs to show the gaming industry that they still have their mojo. ME:A must be their

show case.

Muting their own BSN, a source of past negative criticism is a smart marketing move ( I think that's what they believe). However,

It can be viewed in another light. Bio lacks confidence in their very own Mass Effect Andromeda game.

My question is what makes Star Wars forum a keeper?

Well, WE're currently between games as far as ME and DA go, the secret IP hasn't even been officially announced yet, but TOR is still producing content.  I think they have some new chapter being released in the next week or two, I believe.

Might simply be a matter of timing.  These boards don't have much official material to discuss, so they figure they can kill it and dump it in a shallow grave while the fewest number of people will notice.

So people saying this was about ME3 ending war are completely off.

That part of the post Chris Priestly wrote actually sounds in context with the ME3 ending and DA2 as a whole:

Sadly, DA2 and the endings of ME3 weren't enjoyed by everyone (I'm not bring this up more, you know what I'm talking about if you were here) and things turned much more negative than they had been in the past. Still BioWare and its fans worked to keep these forums going. It wasn't easy. There were people in the studio, some quite powerful, who wanted the forums closed. Yet, there were also those, like me, who wanted the boards to stay open and after much discussion, they remained.

Perhaps there was a discussion to close the forum back then because of it, who knows. Especially since it seems from that post that it wasn't just powerful people who wanted it gone. That's some time ago, though. It's much more likely that they have other (additional) reasons now.

I just hope they're being truthful with us. The community here has some dedicated fans who do deserve that much. It's sad to see some of the threads and posts here be thrown away.

The thing I take from it is that it seems there's been two groups of people within Bio. 1 wanted to torch this place and start over.

The other argued against it.

So while Casey Hudson was asking the fans for ideas on a new Mass Effect, there were people within bioware (some quite powerful) biding their time waiting to wipe out that fanbase at the first chance they got.

Clearly it remained an issue for some time because they appear to have had a discussion about it.

It looks (and I don't declare that it is.) as if someone pushed for this repeatedly till they got what they wanted.

But once you've decided that this board is so worthless, so counterproductive, so annoying, or so whatever that you want to shut it down, how much sense does it make to keep paying for the archive to stay up forever?

Official reasoning is really bizarre.  "We don't go here anymore so it's not fair to you to stay here either"

More likely they simply don't want to listen to criticism anymore.

I get the feeling that there isn't really that much to it. Over in the big "Concerning Our Forums" thread you can read stuff like:

Reddit is my primary home now.

Basically short story for me, being on the forum was causing me stress. Reddit allows me to supplement between "work" and enjoyment naturally.

So the devs all decided they were done with this place, and after a while nobody could remember why they even wanted to have a forum.

Personally, I think this is completely fair. Criticism is one thing--a very good thing, but all the people claiming they're 'sensitive butterflies' or whatever for having a very human reaction to a part of the community that sent them death threats, threatened their families, and demanded that some individuals be thrown into poverty or commit suicide is something that should be taken very seriously and it's uncomfortable to see people are acting like not putting up with that brand of 'criticism' means they don't want criticism at all or that Bioware should put up with it because 'lol internet'.

Especially when fans murdering celebrities and people who were in the lime light is a very real thing. Any threat should be taken seriously and nothing--absolutely nothing--justifies such threats or vile behaviour. It doesn't matter if you didn't like the ending, the direction a game went in, or something that was done to a favourite character. If you take it that far then, to be quite honest, psychiatric help is required. Even if it's 'just talk', because the amount of hate in something like that is kind of frightening.
