Who is all these writers anyway, like Jay Watamaniuk? I know he left community management but what kind of writer is he?
Hell, how do you guys even know half of these writers.
Jay wrote Miranda, Ashley and Grunt in ME3.
And yes, many thanks Jos for answering
And he did a good job with Grunt. With Miranda, not so much...
Really?
I hated how wasted Grunt was, as both a character and a plot device.
Oh well, to each his/her own.
The problem with GRUNT was that he simply didn't get the screentime. He had one mission and that was the last (Save for the final hologram) we heard from him. He really should have been there for the Tuchanka plot and showed up somewhere at some point. But when he was there, very powerful.
Miranda...dear God. She was written poorly. They didn't want to give her a Cerberus sub-plot so they recycled her sister one. They wrote her to be a femm fatale (listen to Yvonne's voice - it's too seductive) and then they kill her off if you break up with her. Very weak character.
Ashleys was simply chopped to bits.
That's exactly why they are *cameos.* Look, not everybody loves the same character as much as you, or even I do. They're are a risky thing, especially ME2's companions. Give Grunt more time than Jack, or Jack more time than Grunt and you're brewing a ****storm.
"Well, what about the main ME3 squad, they're come-backs, are they not?"
Yes, but Garrus, Tali and Liara are
very popular, and have had two games to be developed in, they are favourites, and that's objective to the majority of the BSN.
What I think ME3 could have done with is an "open slot" for a companion. Have one space to recruit which ever one you want. Of course, this would significantly draw back on said companion's dialogue, but at least there very presence would please people.
That being said, I feel that many games could have done with that bit more, even critically acclaimed ones (e,g Planescape: Torment.) I don't think many people appreciate the fact that the amount of banter and dialogue in between these squadies was much more than the previous games. Hell, I remember playing ME1 shortly after 3 to get back into gaming again...loved it, but certainly saw what nostalgia would otherwise not.
