"Oh, and I didn't mean that bigger is always better. If its too big to package, then everything else is moot ;)"

Call it an "Expansion" and show us what you've got! :)

I really wish they'd do that, stop bouncing off that ridiculous 2 GB limit & give us a fully fledged expansion pack instead.

Boxed expansion packs don't realply sell anymore. DAO, GTA4, Oblivion & Fallout 3 still tried to sell DLC/expansion packs in traditional physical boxes and it didn't really work. Gamers just want to download it from XBL/PSN these days. So there's no way they would NOT have the next DLC/expansion on XBL and unfortunately, MS controls the file size limit here...

Can't they release patch with omega fixes etc, but include some data from dlc to free up space on 2gb limit. Not content but place marker data or even some map data for certain areas on Citadel - if Citadel is the new dlc.

Also have some releases lately not been larger, I think it was the Battlefield pack was over 3gb so how did they get round it.

Patches also have size limits on Xbox Live. As you can see, Microsoft & Xbox (thanks to no HDD in every console) hold this generation back significantly.

Why can't they do a two-part DLC that requires two downloads?

Because you can't. You can have a DLC that uses content from other DLC (for example, Extended Cut & Leviathan "use" Javik, who is DLC, and Arkham City Challenge Maps use Robin & Nightwing characters if you bought them as DLC), but you can't force people to download 2 DLCs to have either work at all. Even if you could, Microsoft would see such package as 1 DLC that exceeds 2GB limit. In short: Microsoft sucks

Actually, the 2 GB limit for DLC packs doesn't apparently apply to patches. DICE has recently released a "patch" for Battlefield which exceeds the limit.

Didn't think of that. And I was wrong about BF as well it was PC version but from what I gather they split the patch into two separate downloads for xbox is that correct?

If Microsoft wanted to get more money they could give owners without HD free flash drives or at least have special edition of games that comes with flash drive or even discount code for one. Could make fortune with Halo exclusive drives etc. They dirt cheap now anyways.

Hopefully they can find ways around the limits, rather than cutting content to come in under 2GB. (Or maybe they're so aware of the limits by now that they're not even creating that content that would go over it in the first place.)

And technically, SP additions to the main campaign can be regarded as patches. I'm looking at you, post ending 'DLC'. :P

I think they were suggesting that BioWare could "sneak" content into patches that would then be ustilised by DLC, bypassing the 2GB limit.

A file containing all the data for the upcoming DLC is hardly a patch.
