I haven't seen anything that screams "intelligence" to me in that game, but to clarify my point...

By 'nerdy', I meant that I'm not a big dungeons and dragons, LOTR kind of fan.  I find the whole witcher concept nerdy, dweeby, dorky.   That's just my opinion obviously, as I got drawn into Mass Effect's Star Wars/Star Trek style storyline (even though I'm not the biggest fan of those things either, lol), so I'm not one to throw stones or anything.

Considering Witcher makes fun and/or subverts most of generic fantasy tropes, you either didn´t play far enough or somehow missed what the world is like. It makes Dragon Age look all happy and sunny. ( Mages have it worse in DA, but it´s hard to get a worse setting than where the main character´s reaction to a plan to save the world is screw the world if that´s what it takes to save it).

You're not getting my point, but it's not important anyway... no need to keep this convo going in the twitter thread.

As much as the endings pissed me off, ME has just about ruined me for any other games. I bought Witcher 2 based on all the praise here and other places... and I just can't get into it (too wooden and nerdy for me).

Academic is a probably a better word.  The writing style has far more structure than soul (and yes, that's coming from someone who thinks it's pretty darn solid).

No. You havent probably played Doom or Quake or other games that came before.
Half Life actually introduces a consistent narrative, where you start as a scientist and everything gets explained during the game.

What, Dark Souls? I doubt you have. 
I think Dark Souls is intelligent and mature because the story is behind the narrative, you basically have to put together the pieces of the story yourself and actually have to have some imagination behind it to really figure out what happened. (in other words, its not spoon fed to you like 90% of videogames -- INCLUDING the Witcher)

Fair for it´s time is not the same as good writing. I played HF recently and went when the suitcase guy appeared. A couple of blink and miss sightings is no proper foreshadowing.

And while Dark Souls can be a nice narrative experiment, there´s a diference between telling a story and being spoonfed.

Half life was a dynamic shift in the FPS genre, story and FPS was a small piece somwehere in the manual before half life
