The team allocation for nextME/DA3/Casey's IP is really interesting, given that they're basically working on three games at various stages of production simultaneously (plus, I suppose, any number of pitches or projects that will never see the light of day).

I think you're right about the DA3 plots/companions being fairly far along, although clearly there's enough left unwritten (quest dialogue, minor characters?) for other writers to join now. We don't know a thing about Casey's IP, although I suppose given the intention to hand ME to Montreal that it'll take the rest of the non-DA team at Edmonton when production eventually begins in earnest.

(Re-reading Yanick Roy's blog post on nextME, I didn't notice at the time how much he was emphasising the change in direction and differences from the first trilogy - it does seem like an effort to telegraph some bigger changes in the new game.)

I hope not.

Plus, that wasnt Bioware as we know. It was a new studio that had NO BW talent and just had the name slapped on.

Yes, this is a concept of the new Command & Conquer.

Well, actually, the studio producing the game was called BioWare Victory until recently when the studio was re-named Victory Games. So, in essence, it is no longer a BioWare game.

Which is a great thing. Bioware should stay as their RPG branch honestly. What kind of RPG is up to them, but RPG is their thing.

More interesting, it suggests writing on the last ME3 DLC is now wrapping up.

Hmm. Does that indicate that two DLCs are on the way, since Hulick has already been scoring for one, or is this one just ... really substantial?

The latter, I think.

I wouldn't even mind paying a higher cover price for the DLC if what's inside it is actually worth the money. It does seem difficult to juggle budget-versus-expected-return-versus-ideal-price, but there's probably an intangible price to be paid in terms of goodwill or future sales if players are burned by DLC that doesn't seem good value. After Omega (and to a certain extent Arrival) I'm much less willing to buy ME DLC on release date, no-questions-asked.

(though I'm sure EA employs a microeconomist or six, and they have fancier equations than are dreamt of in forum posts)

Dragon Age: Inquistion just got a lot more interesting with Patrick Weekes' inclusion while Mass Effect 3 a lot less so. ;P

Why do people love patrick weekes so much? Im not being rude I just wanna know - I don't really know the writers on name terms.

:)

DA team would do pretty well already, so another writer won't hurt, but I think DA2 showed very good writing skills, even if the game itself was rushed.

PW's cult status among BSN is attributed largely to his writing of Mordin/genophage arc in Mass 3 - it is a favourite here.

Apparently, he's been moved into the DA writer's pit.

Which would mean he's not even on the same floor as the ME team anymore (which also probably means no more DLC after the next, if true).

Hmm, then the writing for new DLC is probably done. Though it does add up to speculation that it's gonna be the last one when yet another ME writer moves to DA team :/ And the fact that Chris said news is still long way off, so probably February/March release. Don't see room for more DLC in such case :(

Keeping my fingers crossed that we will have more dlc for ME3. You never know.

It's not the first time I read on this forum that DLC will be finished after March 2013. Why is that? It's not like they're legally required to stop releasing DLC for games that are over 1 year old... Did they officially announce that they are done after March?

There's just limited time when a DLC for some game can be released and still be financially succesful. It's the first few months after game's release that are the most lucrative. Look at ME2 DLC. On Xbox Live, Kasumi is the best selling ME2 DLC. Not Overlord which gathered much bigger praise, and neither LOTSB which is by large considered the best ME2 DLC. Kasumi sold better simply because it was released earlier when more people cared. After half a year/a year, less and less people still care about DLC for 0.5/1 year old game, new games are already out each with its own DLC. And while ME series is highly succesful with its DLC packages, it won't go on forever. If Citadel DLC is released like in March, chances for another DLC are small, March will be already a year since ME3 was released.

and also i can't remember what month it was (it was around when the founders left) they said there would be six months of dlc content which would have ended around march. then again they also said ("evil" chris no less) there is no timetable when dlc would be finished

It's not a hard and fast rule; if Leviathan, Omega and whatever comes next were selling well, then it'd probably be worth it to make more.

The one year thing was possibly conjured from whatever metrics they've used in the past ("x% of players tend to stop playing after y months"), or it could've just been an arbitrary date when Bioware was first thinking about ME3's DLC a year or more ago.

I still wonder if they actually believe it was a good design decision or they're just trying to convince themselves and us that it was but in reality time constraints combined with huge amount of variables and replacement characters simply forced them to make cuts on number of dialogue options. Can't tell.
