@[person] That, I can answer right away: it will be the same type of game as the first three.

Aaaaah  Where do I pre-order?!

And what if it will be a trilogy when we play as the Catalyst? B)

It's good to see this thread alive and kicking again! Looks like we may see a teaser trailer for the VGAs, just like Mass Effect 3.

I'll pre-order it twice.

The pure FPS rumours had me worried.

Indeed.

There was talk of the next game having a "feel" of Mass Effect (in the aliens, technology, the galaxy, etc) back when it was first announced, but the wording was pretty vague.

If anything I hope they edge away a lot from the military focus that ME3 had - the war setting worked well in that game, but it just didn't feel as groundbreaking and "omg space!" as the first game. A new story that tried to reintroduce the universe from a different perspective would be fantastic, especially if the focus was on exploration and discovery rather than shooting everything that moves.

Basically, I hope we get 'first contact', but not 'First Contact War'.

Personally, I'd like to see a game taking place after ME3 that highlights those things you mention, exploration and discovery. With the Reapers defeated and the galaxy united, shifting the focus from humans to the entire Mass Effect universe that we've grown to love would be awesome. Give us a character with a personal story, perhaps more akin to what they were doing/trying to do with Hawke, an entire galaxy to explore as it looks to a future without the Reaper threat, and capitalizes on all the stuff built up in the previous trilogy.

Personally, I still think it would be the coolest to play a pirate or rogue or bounty hunter or something along those lines. Your own ship, your own crew of lovable misfits and criminal types (can has batarian squadmate for the lulz?)... And bonus points if the protagonist can be one of several different races and genders.

First off: HELL YEAH!!!
Nice to hear that, although I'd like even more RPG elements in the game. And an open world...? :D

Is this guy the new guy in charge of ME? Or is it still Casey?

Pretty much. Casey reviews the decisions made and offers input, but he isn't directly involved in developpement. He already has a new IP to work on

Yeah, I think Casey as the Executive Producer still does the big-picture stuff, but Yannick is head of the studio at Montreal. Some ME3 devs are working on the next ME from Edmonton (like Mike Gamble), but as far as I know most of the core ME leads have moved to Casey's new IP.

Is Gamble the most notable dev still working on the franchise?
I'm not sure if Weekes is still involved or has he moved on?

I believe Weekes is no longer involved (he's working on DA3 I think?). Mac Walters is still working on it though, last I heard.

Yes, Weekes is now writing for Dragon Age (including a novel The Masked Empire) .  Walters is still writing for Mass Effect, I believe.

I'd buy that game in a heartbeat.  I'd love to see the next ME follow this kind of idea.

God I really hope this is going to be Post Trilogy.

Me too but due to the different ways the galaxy could end up because of the player's choice regarding the Crucible in ME3, I really can't see how there can be a fixed galactic scenario that could take the ramifications of all 4 choices into consideration to start the story. And the option of choosing 1 option as canon for the new story? You might want to start investing in companies that manufacture pitchforks and torches for that.  Posted Image

So other than a prequel or a story that takes place within the events of ME1-3, I have no earthly idea how the next Mass Effect title is going to happen. Posted Image

It'll happen exactly like you said, a game that takes place before the events of ME1 (I wouldn't really call it a prequel, just a story in this vast universe) or a parallel story.

Interesting decision to have the core ME devs work on a new IP, although that might have been done to have already experienced devs on a new IP and to counter weariness....
Really interested to see what this new IP looks like!

Yeah, a game based around being a pirate/smuggler/explorer would be so interesting.
