@YanickRRoy Is it possible for ME4 to take place in the same time span as the ME trilogy? I think it would avoid many narratice issues!

Yanick Roy ‏@YanickRRoy
@[user] Possible? Yes. But we'll pick the timeline we think is the best, not necessarily the easiest. We have great writers :-)

Who are these writers? I heard Mac was back, and Anne LeMay, but Idk who else is on the writing team.

If John Dombrow isn't back on the writing team, I'm probably not even going to borrow or even blackbeard the game.

That guy wrote pretty much every good part of ME3.

Well, Weekes also wrote good segments (like Mordin), but he's moved on to Dragon Age: Inquisition. I wouldn't expect many writers from the trilogy to write the next ME, since they mostly come from Edmonton and are probably working on the new IP. Keeping a few writers with experience like Mac makes sense to ensure it follows lore and keeps it's identity as a Mass Effect game.

If they are looking to keep the lore and identity of Mass Effect intact, Mac is probably the last writer they should turn to for help.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. IIRC it's not the writers, but the editors that are the responsible for keeping the lore intact. The question is, who is the chief editor for the next ME?

 Alright, time to dig up some tweets... You guys remember this tweet from Mike Gamble:

@GambleMike (July 11, 2013)
We're also in the process of nailing down final attendees for a very special closed-door feedback session with fans. #SDCC

(https://twitter.com/GambleMike/status/355184574260715520)

I tried to find any more info on said meeting. As I expected there's not much to find, but there indeed seems to be some sort of non-disclosure agreement in effect:

@CooperChristina (July 19, 2013)
I LOVE the fact that I can't talk about what I just talked about for 2 hours #MASSEFFECT #BIOWARE
(https://twitter.com/...426600997527552)

There are also some other people who responded to Mike Gambles following tweet, who will most likely have attended, but I couldn't find any more info regarding the nature or topic of the meeting. Unfortunately (for us) everyone seems to keep his/her mouth tightly shut:

@GambleMike
Huge thanks to those folks that I was lucky enough to sit down with and discuss #MassEffect . Hopefully it was worth your time too! ;)

(https://twitter.com/GambleMike/status/359001589459066880)

Maybe someone has been more successful in digging up something regarding that ominous meeting..?

I would hate being under NDA for stuff like that. Can you imagine knowing what the future holds for Mass Effect and not being able to talk about it to the rest of the fans?

I don't think I could deal w/that. Lol. I'd start dropping all kinda cruddy clues. *nudge, nudge. wink, wink*.

Ugh.

I wonder how much they got to find out, tho? Was it a general overview of their next game? Was it a "How would you feel abt ...blah, blah?"

Interesting find, thanks for tracking down the replies.

Definitely sounds like some sort of non-disclosure agreement.

I agree, for me it would also be really hard not to tell one iota of the things I heard. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to jeopardize those efforts and maybe force the devs to change course. We all know where that road might lead...

But telling from the profiles of those who responded to Gamble's tweet, they've invited some hardore(ish) fans. I take that as a good sign.

Michael Gamble ‏@GambleMike
The sign of a great producer is to creep the hell out of the scope when nobody is looking, and then blame it fully on the lead designer.

I'm into this.

Also, Mike Gamble is going to PAX Prime with some Bioware high-ups. I'd expect they'll do a Mass Effect discussion of some sort.

Yeah, I don't understand it either :P surely they're not designing weapon scopes already, right? It's gotta be something else, and something that plays a bigger part. Hmm. Can anyone explain it to us, perhaps? :innocent:

As far as I understand it, the scope of the game. Basically, how big/deep/wide the eventual project will be - that could be in terms of content, features, levels, story, etc, etc. It's a project management term, I think.

"Scope creep" happens when features or planned content are added to the stuff that needs to be developed, so the scope "creeps" outwards. It can be risky if the scope is expanded but resources or time aren't also expanded to deal with it.

But I think Mike was mostly poking fun at himself and the lead designer.

Oh yes, I knew it was a joke, I just didn't understand it :-P but thanks for the link! I wasn't aware of 'scope creep'. I only envisioned something along the lines of inducing fear and disgust in others (e.g. "You're creeping me out"). But it makes sense now! :-)

Just saw this on the twitter feed.  Ian Frazier retweet of an EA tweet:

Become the next Mass Effect Lead Writer for BioWare Montreal!

Seems like a formality more than anything else. I'm sure the people interested in this slot who have shipped a AAA game already have their names in the hat.

This article is from April.  It never actually says Mac Walters is the lead writer of the next Mass Effect.  It just says he's working on it.  Along with possibly other projects.

Mac's new position at Bioware is Narrative Director. I guess this allows him to work on the next Mass Effect, the comics and other things, but not necessarily as 'lead writer'. He also might be working on Casey's new IP.
