This article is from April.  It never actually says Mac Walters is the lead writer of the next Mass Effect.  It just says he's working on it.  Along with possibly other projects.

Mac's new position at Bioware is Narrative Director. I guess this allows him to work on the next Mass Effect, the comics and other things, but not necessarily as 'lead writer'. He also might be working on Casey's new IP.

Another cryptic tweet by Mike Gamble:

@GambleMike
I have infiltrated the DA sprint review and am observing awesome. Hopefully my stealth camo holds up. #SprintReviewDay #franchisecheater

Note the last hashtag. One could really be tempted to overanalyze and interpret it as Gamble grabbing some ideas for ME from the DA team... ><

Well copied is better than bad invented... ,although i dont think this means we will find the same game components of DA:I in ME:N.

Its never a bad idea to use the chance to look at what the other studios are doing; its a great chance, especially if you are creating the same game type with the same engine

I agree. From what I've read it seems the new engine is great but took some time to get used too. The extended development time on DAI is good because now they know how to exploit the engine to work better. This also applys to any possible bugs that have shown up, they probably have decent fixes etc. Now that BW know the engine the new ME will be able to play around more with it and trully stretch it's limits. Hopefully anyway and it may even help cut down on the development time now they are familiar with the engine.

A lot of people are angry with Walters because they perceive a lot of the problems with the series are his fault and think he should be sacked.

The bolded part isn't true and I don't think he should be sacked

He's good at writing certain characters

You know, as much as I would like to argue with the people spewing hate at him...if it's true that Walters was behind Mars, behind the Crucible, behind the ending...I can't really disagree.

You really don't have any business being the lead writer of Mass Effect if the best you can do is "I've found a weapon that can defeat the Reapers," and the best explanation you can come with up is "Process of elimination, mixed with a little desperation."

Now, obviously, that doesn't mean that Walters is the source of any and all problems with Mass Effect and the other writers just poop out pure gold. That's still foolish.

I think it is true that Mac wrote those, but no one said that Walters was the source of all the problems

Plenty of people have ended complaints about the game with a snide remark about Walters, often on issues where there's no evidence Walters was involved at all.

Mac wrote the Mars mission (including all the lines there for Kaidan and Liara), yes.

Well, he was the Lead Writer, he must have some degree of responsibility.

But no, I don't know how much.

That works both ways. If you're heaping blame on him for things that went wrong just because he's lead writer, you also have to praise him for the things that went right that he might not have had anything to do with.

I believe that this is where walters lives as a writer. it doesn't say much considering the "character" of Kai Leng.

Well whoever came up with and wrote the child and the ending shouldnt be sacked, they should be made to make the coffee and never allowed to write for mass effect ever again.

I'm curious why people think the endings would be any different if the child was gone and if Harbinger landed and said the exact same things and presented the exact same options. It easily could have been done. Suddenly the supposedly worst element of the endings is now removed. Are they any better?

It's less horrendous, but that's not saying much, since the starbrat is only ONE one the things that were wrong in ME3
ending

Anyway I don't think that Mac Walters is the devil incarnated, but he clearly isn't good at writing large-scale stories, let him write characters or side quests and put Donbrow or Weeks as the new writing boss

Guys, we have a ton of threads discussing the ending(s) already, it's cool to talk about what the tweets mean, but your discussion is no longer related to that.
