When it comes to writing Mass Effect has always been mediocre, whatever praise there is should be given to the animators and  cinematic narrative designers but certainly not the writers, not that there wasn't some decent characterisation now and then or some  interesting conflicts, but almost all of that was local, self contained and short-lived.

Jesus we have high standards in this place.

What were you expecting Citizen Kane from Sci-Fi? :wizard:

Excepting decent writing is not high standards. People who think that need to play more games.

Perhaps that's your opinion?

Word on the street from most people is that Bioware does in fact have decent writing. B)

When looking at it's literary qualities Mass Effect in general doesn't elevate it self above being mediocre. Almost everything that I consider to be "good" can be almost entirely attributed to the presentation.

I disagree in the case of Jack, Legion, Genophage, Saren and Edi pre Me3. In other cases I don't think it's top notch but its still leagues ahead of most other video games.

Now compared to books yes but even Last of Us pales to alot of literary works.

Personal perceptions, at least in my book, don't equal literary qualities. the fact that a military operation requires an insane, pyshopathic, convicted murderer for no good reason doesn't speak well of them either.

You don't look outside in the real world often do you?

I see no difference in opinion on your part. What you see as "bad" isn't objective fact. Plot holes, cliche and poorly thought out plot elements are bad.

Wether using a crazy person in a miltary operation (which isn't true, Cerberus are Terrorists) which happens in the real world is subjective.

Not saying everyone bow down and admit Bioware is flawless, but a little respect would be nice.B)

Being a villian and pure evil is bad writing?

Well there goes about 70-90% of classical literature.

Aright back on topic, I will speak no more on this.

Bringing mentally unstable murderer without any form of damage control onboard is a potentional harm to the operation and poor writing.

ME has some pretty embarrassing schlock writing in it, especially in it's sequels like Lazarus and the "Genetic diversity' giant baby arnold plot.

You shoot her if she gets out of line, and the fact that you render assistence to her with promise/ability to in loyalty mission would prevent that.

You also learn that she only kills those that are a threat to her, which you are currently not. She is emotionally damaged and crazy, not completely bonkers. =]

Of course no narrative is ever flawless, and ME is far from it but compared to other stories out there in video games it is.

Now lets get this back on topic folks.:wizard:

Let me know when the BSN stops equating "I don't like it" with "bad writing". Also wake me up if we get some tweets.

Only quite few people keep repeating that "bad writing" nonsense. They don't know what are they talking about, and refuse to sense their own delusion... Just ignore them, because unfortunately there always will be so stubborn people on BSN at some capacity.

Says the Number One BSN poster that decieves himself. The fact that you're unwilling or uncapable to properly reply to critical posts encourage other people to do the same only further weakens your position.

Yes, yes, keep hating me and leave BioWare alone. Let them do their job.

Gamescom starts the 21th (wednesday) but i would not be surprised if they save ME4 info for later to not overshadow Dragon age 3.
