I've been away from BSN for long enough to be reminded in fill that the extremist negative opinion stream is largely a BSN thing.

Glad to see you back Jeff; long time no see.:o

I also hope gamescom brings us something ME related. I want to know where we are headed next year!

Going to Gamescom? Stop by and talk to Rodrigue Pralier, simply one of the best character artists in the business. http://blog.bioware.com/

I would hardly call this place extremist (then again I'm fairly new). I get banned and censored for small things here. You should try some other gaming sites, where Klan members and homophobes run rampant.

I really like that BW are trying to send people to as many conventions as they can, and they're sending more staff members/developers than the usual senior leads we always see at press events.

Having concept artists/writers/cinematics people on panels can be really interesting.

From LinkedIn rather than Twitter, but John Dombrow has moved to BioShock developer Irrational.

Dombrow wrote most of the Genophage arc in ME3, Thessia, all of Garrus and Javik and an early draft of Grissom Academy. He also wrote ME2: Overlord, worked on Leviathan and was co-lead writer on Citadel.

Sad. He's one of Bioware's best. But happy for him as well.

Really sad to see John go, he's written some of the storylines and characters I've enjoyed most. Great for Irrational, though, and I wish Mr Dombrow all the very best :)

Terrible news. There are other talented writers in the team, I'm sure, but he was one of the best, for all the reasons mentioned above plus the love he had for the franchise, both as a player and as a writer.

That's terrible news. I was still holding on to the faint hope that he would be the one to take the reins of the new IP (though I guess I never truly expected it).

Shame to see him go, but hopefully they're able to put him to good use over at Irrational.

And with that.. my level of anticipation went from "cautious optimism" to "so long and thanks for all the fish".

Who is left to write this story? I'm all for new people coming onboard but shouldn't the great writers of the past be there to guide them in the right direction? I can understand some moving to the Edmonton team, maybe some will move o the Montreal team after DA:I releases, but not having Weekes or Dombrow writing the next Mass Effect is like.. well, it's like having JJ Abrams rebooting Star Trek. Even Mac isn't on as Lead Writer (I know, most of you are relieved but having some consistency with the universe would be nice).

Where is the old guard, what is going to happen to our beloved ME universe now? Quite honestly I smell "reboot" here as opposed to a continuation of the current setting. And what of that mystery new IP that we have heard nothing of? Where are they going to dig up people to work on that?

Seriously about to give up caring altogether, and that's saying a lot given my level of enthusiasm for this universe. I was ok with the end of Shepard's story, for me that was a great introduction to the setting, now I crave more and it feels like we're getting less.

Here's hoping Patrick Weekes will contribute to the Mass Effect series after his work on Dragon Age is done. He and Dombrow wrote some of the best portions and characters in the trilogy. Mordin is my favorite video game character and the Tuchanka storyline was the best part in ME3.

Having said that, I believe they can attract other talented writers.

I'd very much like to be proven a fool on this matter. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to hear much news any time soon.

If nothing else, you shouldn't pretend you can flip interest in something on and off like a lightswitch. Trying to use how much you 'care' about something as a threat and insult is dishonest and immature. You wouldn't be spending your time here if you didn't care.

By all means, keep going off-topic. Keep trying to prove something. Keep trying to state I am the immature one. Keep implying I am doing something that I am not. You know what, I'm done. This is the only thread I've posted in in several months (contrary to your "spending time here" comment) and it has turned to rubbish since it became a non-tweet thread.

These are my feelings, whether you like them or not, for me it is like a switch has gone off and don't for a second think I haven't been depressed about it because I don't want to be right in this instance. Don't you dare tell me what I am allowed to feel as an individual.

People come and people go. Dombrow is a terrific writer but it's not the end of the world. Somebody else will step up.

Pretty much. Frankly I think new blood is needed, if Dombrow or anyone was for that matter was feeling tired or burnt out with Mass Effect I'm glad they left. Better to just move on if that was the case.

It sounds like he was a pretty useful part of the writing team. Did he give any indication why he left? The reason could be as important as the fact he is gone if he did not like the direction they were taking it. On the other hand if it was for completely unrelated reasons it may not matter, there are plenty of other writers out there.

Money? New opportunities? Moving to a new city? The chance to work with a franchise like Bioshock? There are tons of reasons.

Yeah, and they are all very different than wanting to leave because he didn't like the direction ME4 was being taken in. Which is why I was wondering if he had given a reason.

Well given that he worked at the bioware studio where they were going to be focusing on the new IP and not ME4, I doubt ME4 itself was the reason.
