DAI more likely or maybe something about the ongoing comic series ME:Foundation (the Wrex issue is going to be released in a few days)

Mike Gamble is a producer on Mass Effect. They're also doing an event at the studio at Edmonton, inviting ME/DA fans to the studio for something.

And I believe Mike did another one of these with ME fans at another convention a few weeks ago.

My guess is that they are bringing in random fans (under heavy NDA) to give feedback on early plot and character concepts for the new game; probably to get a feell of if it will be well recieved before they go forwar with production.

But again, thats just what I suspect is going on. For all I know I could be completely full of crap.

I suspect it's an early look at some concepts or art under NDAs, yeah.

Even just an idea of what ME locations and character models will look like in Frostbite 3, since they've been working with the engine for over a year now.

The maximum we can expect is listening to a couple of ideas they have for the game, if we are lucky, we may see some concept art... If we are that lucky.

That is, if they're even ready to reveal anything at this point. I'd guess the reason why they're doing fan meetups is because they're still testing ideas and seeing what gets a good reaction.

If the aim is to have a big reveal with an in-game trailer or something, it might not be until later this year or even next year.

Probably this. The game isn't very advanced yet. Even so, I think a teaser at the VGA's is still possible, especially if they are taking fan feedback from their ideas about story and setting. Otherwise, I think next E3 would be a safe bet. As time goes on, more and more people will join the team at Montreal, accelerating the work. It's only a matter of time until we hear something concrete.

(Keeping in mind that Chris isn't a Bioware employee now)

In reply to a question about whether the DA Inquisition cloud-based save file modifier could be useful for the next Mass Effect:

Chris Priestly ‏@TheEvilChris
@[user] I doubt it'll need to be since the next ME game was already said to not be a sequel. Still, you never know.

And in my opinion, he is right:
Next game won't be a sequel, no matter when it takes place (Before/After ME3), the story of Shep and the Cycles is over.

I don't see the point of doing it when it's a "fresh" start.

It does suggest that there'll be no save imports into MENext.

Why not? If the game took place during the events of the trilogy in the Terminus Systems, or between the two year gap of ME1 and 2, the game could read choices you made in ME1 and 2. Then again, it probably won't happen.

Not to take Chris' tweet out of proportion, but if there was ever a plan to do a similar save-import system for the next Mass Effect, you'd think they would've started planning it and he would've known about it.

What I thought was interesting was the inference that the next game won't be a sequel. That's fairly significant, if accurate.

I''ll be happpy as long as the essence of what makes Mass Effect Mass Effect, is being maintained. Doesn't really matter when it takes place.

I think he's speaking along the lines of it not being as direct a follow-up as DA: Inquisition, which was at one point named DA3.

Setting the next Mass Effect a few hundred years in the future would enable a lot of your trilogy choices to balance out/be ignored.

Exactly. Not offense to him intended, but EP is grabbing at whatever straws he can to try and prove that NME won't occur at some point after ME3 and will instead be a prequel. He's blowing Chris' Tweet out of proportion. The truth is we don't really know yet. Judging from Yanick Roy's comments on the forums and Tweets, I personally suspect it will occur after the ME3 and will be dissapointed if it doesn't. I believe a prequel is a very bad and limiting idea for the Mass Effect universe and I won't be buying such a game. I might rent it so I can at least give the game a chance, but not buy it. Anyway, as I said, no one really knows yet. We're just guessing from the few crumbs we're getting.

"the next ME game was already said to not be a sequel" does sound suspiciously like the next ME game is, indeed, not a sequel.

I recall them saying it wouldn't be a direct sequel (leading to the whole "It's not 'technically' ME4 since Shepard is gone and it would be unfair to say that).. BUT that they still don't know when it takes place. Which leaves in the future still a possibility.

Edit: found one of the articles

So as I understand, we can't seem to reach an agreement on what the definition of the word 'sequel' is?

It's kinda a matter of interpretation, I suppose. "Sequel" as the term is used in the BSN doesn't necessarily mean something that carries on directly from one story - a lot of people here use it to mean something that takes place chronologically after something else. For a lack of a better concept to mean "thing that takes place after something else", sequel will have to do.

But I'd suggest the fact that Bioware apparently aren't preparing a save-import system means the next game won't be a sequel in any sense of the word. We already know it won't feature Shepard or their story, and if there are indeed no plans to carry across a worldstate then I doubt it'll take place chronologically after ME3.

The proposals that it be set hundreds or thousands of years after Shepard's trilogy to avoid having to deal with the choices and endings strikes me as, really, quite ridiculous.

IMO there's far more fertile storytelling ground in the ~30 years between first contact and ME1, and that's where I expect they'll set the next game.
