They only confirmed the production of DA:I one week after the release of ME3 (and DA2 a couple months after the release of ME2) so this tells much about how they handle their flagship franchises.

Nah, ME3 was announced before DA2 was released and so did ME2 (with Origins).
They won't announce it if they don't have anything to announce, the game has to have some shape to do so. My expectations are set for E3 next year, maybe the GDC, but probably sometime around june.

They also have the new IP though, the one in development at Bioware Edmonton. That's going to need announcing at some point, and unless they wait years it's going to be during the development of DA or ME.
At some point the marketing schedules for two of their franchises are going to have to overlap, and they're in sufficiently different genres to not confuse people.
We had an announcement trailer for ME3 just a few months before DA2 was released, after all.

I'm pretty sure they have the time period and possibly a rough draft of the story. I don't know what happened to Mac Walters but I know he is still a writer for NME. I really hope we get to here something by the end of the year.
I believe he's the "Narrative Director"
Whatever that means.

I can't believe they are working on the next ME already. Talk about milking it.

Isn't that the role that Armando Troisi had for the first two games?
Still not convinced they drafted in a replacement when he left for Halo before the third game......

So this "being smarter about choices" cause they add too much possibilities does mean we will have no choices that matter?

I think it means the opposite. Less choices, but more of them (/all of them?) having a more sensible impact.

That would be best. Not saying that more choices isn't a good thing, just that too many of them makes the majority lose impact.
I mean, the Collector Base decision was highly regarded as the biggest decision up until ME2. And the difference in the end was only 10 War Assets. Similar situation with the Rachni. Quarians went to war even if Shepard warns against it, etc.
Basically, I'd perfer less choices but all of them big and with real consequences. Say 2-3 Virmire size decisions in the game. We'll all love Bioware for having to kill 3 squadmates, right

If anything, I'd love them to do some forward planning with the narrative. If you're going to do something like the rachni or Collector Base, make sure you've thought of an appropriate way to have it affect the next game - otherwise you're setting up an expectation of choices having an impact that just *can't* be delivered upon.
There's also something to be said for developer/marketing statements being less bombastic, rather than promising things that pretty blatantly aren't in the game.

I've always wondered about this. Like, how much input do the other teams have in how marketing works out?

Not all that much, apparently (although in my post above I was also referring to devs themselves saying silly, unrealistic things in interviews). Some of the dev statements do sound like they've been massaged by a PR team, and it sounds like (from what I understand) the marketing team is a separate section within Bioware/EA.
Btw, Mike Gamble says some of the ME team will be at the Montreal Comic Con, if anyone is attending.

What’s even more fun than working on the design of a new fictional world? Taking our first steps into it and looking around.

I'm interested to see what setting they picked for the new IP. Steampunk, (quasi-)historic, modern?
