No clue. Maybe "Old Port" is a physical location.. They're all "training" Tai Chi at some Harbor in Canada.

+1. I am from Montreal and I can confirm this. They are probably doing some team building and physical exercise to get them closer as a team. Always helps to have chemistry and a good atmosphere in the work place.

Not sure I should care about what he thinks about story. He's the one who wrote Miranda and Ash in ME3.

Wouldn't be BSN without an overwhelming tide of negativity and fans swearing eternal vengeance on people they've never met for something that happened years ago, I guess.

Overwhelming tide? Seriously? I didn't like his writing with not just one, but two characters. Two characters I thought were better in other hands before. There's nothing "overwhelming" about it. It simply sets a precedent for me.

Well it also wouldn't be BSN without massive amounts of hyperbole aimed at others' opinions either ;)

But really, this is for another place

I'll be the devil's advocate here. Ash and Alenko in Mars were written by MW, Jay Watamaniuk handled Ashley Williams (and other characters) after Priority Mars and I think he did a very decent job. The number of lines (word count) and the number of instances where the characters 'speak' (cutscenes, Normandy and mission banter, etc...) is imposed on the staff writers. I would have liked to see more Ash and not acting out of character at times, but let's not blame it all on Jay W. There are impositions and budget contraints on the writing team coming from above.

Edit: I just wanted to add I'm a huge fan of everything Chris L'Étoile did for ME 1 & 2. The ME 1 codex and pretty much the whole Noveria story arc were also part of his work

To be perfectly fair, Chris L'Etoile wrote the dialogue for ME1 and ME2 Ashley, in addition to Thane and Legion's dialogue in ME2. He left before ME3 went into development.

He did an amazing job on all of those characters and the reason they seemed to decline was because he was no longer the one penning them.

However, though I wish that he would've touched more on Ash's spiritual and sensitive side, I feel that JW did a good job with the character. What it came down to was a lack of time and resources, which gave characters like Williams and Miranda a backseat to the overall story. It was simply a matter of them getting the short end of the stick.

Had ME3's release been pushed to November 2012, I think we would've gotten a MUCH more character-saturated game.

A couple of minor tweets

@YanickRRoy please don't turn mass effect 4 into a mmo a heard a rumor you will is that true?
@jamescoyne11 no, that's not what we're doing

@YanickRRoy you may not be able to answer this but apart from Shepard not being in ME4 are all the old races still there Asari Krogan etc ?
@bulkevans Sorry, but we're not ready to reveal this yet... :-)

Wouldn't be too worried about the second tweet. It's not Mass Effect without Asari, Krogans and Turians (and the rest of the Universe).

I agree with you there, I think creating an entirely different universe which has none of the 'old' species in it would be a rather big undertaking. I do believe that some of the 'newer' races, such as the Yahg, will have a much bigger role in the coming game.

I think Ash became more similar to Alenko (or in Udina's words, it was Officer training that changed her attitude). Maybe it wasn't Watamaniuk decision, but something decided by the whole team. I don't know. In any case, she wasn't the sassy/polarizing chick she used to be. I guess they felt bad about L'toile's writing, where Ash was more controversial, but to me that made her more interesting. Even if they wanted to tone down her human centric views, they went further and just made her less talkative, more emotional and serious. She wasn't as funny. She was better as one of those love or hate characters (ME doesn't have many to begin with, I think. There's Jack and Javik... and maybe EDI? I don't know).

Just an interesting question becuase of the use of the word "all". The majority will be back. There could be question marks over two or three though.

The next Mass Effect will probably be in a different universe just like Grand Theft Auto did with GTA IV.
