ME3MP was potential resources that could have gone towards ME3SP.

MP did have to do with the SP campaign. It affected galactic readiness and before the extended-cut it was the only way to get the best destroy ending.

Also, any input on the SP DLC points I made.

Who said that the multiplayers resources would be available for the single player? They could very well be the same.

What input do you want? Leviathan and the Extended Cut were made to help ease the ending backlash and Omega was in the original leaked script but removed for whatever reasons but those are facts.

Leviathan came out fairly early, right? It seems like a pretty high quality DLC to have been made simply as a response to the ending complaints. If they can crank out something that polished that quickly, I hope the same could be said for future games as a whole. :D

I think I recall reading, back when the first uproar over the SP launched, that the argument was made that MP took away from SP....someone from BW made the statement that it wasn't true....that the SP mode was given X resources, while the MP mode was given Y resources, and it wasn't a given that the Y resources would have been reallocated to the SP game if they had scrapped MP.

1) I did hate that we were told that MP would not in any way effect the SP campaign.....but it did until the extended cut ending....(massive fail there IMHO)

2) I do agree that there were issues in SP that should have been polished up in the main campaign. (The extended cut ending should have been the original ending....probably would have mollified some of the fan backlash....) But I really can't speak much to DLC for ME3 since I haven't bought any of it.....only watched walkthroughs on YouTube.

3) It was obvious that Omega was going to be a DLC, if it hadn't been planned as part of the main campaign....that was annoying...

And as for ME MP mode.....it was kind of fun, a little repetitive, and not as interesting for me since I play on PC and my friends on console, so I was never able to play with them (need to have cross platform MP compatibility, please?), so I lost interest very fast and did just enough to get my galactic readiness up for the SP mode before the EC.

The main way I see the MP affecting the singleplayer is the maps.. the level design of N7/UNC type missions. They were just multiplayer maps. It's still better than most of the ME1 side missions, but they aren't better than ME2's side missions.. all of which were fairly unique.

I felt the same way at first, but the ME2 N7/UNC missions aren't realy that memorable either.
And if you take into account that the ME3 MP maps are larger, have a better level design than the ME2 N7 Missions ( at least imo), and above all each of them has actually unique Voiceovers (+ a somewhat relevant story):
-The ME3 N7-Missions come out as the the best of the Trilogy.

I just like the ME2 ones more because the gameplay isn't always combat based, and many sort of have a mini-mystery to uncover. I would have liked to see them improve even more upon that, instead of just centering the side missions on just shooting. Like the mission where there's that ship dangling off the cliff - they could have made something even better in ME3 with more platform and stuntman gameplay. I think Jon Donbrow might've been responsible for more of these elements in 3.. (like Tuchanka and the Leviathan DLC presents Shepard as "crazy stuntman" in some parts). Just would've liked to seen more maps built for that. Maps specifically meant for singleplayer gameplay and cinematics. They were constrained to a certain type combat by using multiplayer maps.

I personally would have prefered more unique looking levels with better objectives than the bland N7 missions that we got in ME3 ( that were just glorified hoard mode missions lifted from the multi player ). As much as Bioware denied that the multi player did not affect the single player campain and how the multi player part of ME3 was created by a different team the reality is that it did end up compromising what ME3's solo campain should have been.

I respectfully disagree. I HATE ME3's N7 missions, I really, realy hate them. They were a step up from ME1's generic bunkers and space stations but they also lacked the personality of ME2's N7/UNC missions.

I think the resources issue is just a matter of perspective. From an EA point of view, you could just as well argue that the whole of ME3 was potential resources that could have gone towards Battlefield, FIFA or The Sims. I see your point, but I think the devs take a wide range of things into consideration when allocating resources.

Don't forget always online DRM and balance issues

I can't say those affect me much (Xbox player here).. I haven't paid too much attention to the balance issues and how they carry over. I know that my Vanguard was ridiculously powerful, but not sure how much had to do with multiplayer.

I doubt it had anything to do with it. The base classes were all done before multiplayer really got into groove. The latter multiplayer kits and powers were all quite different and bode really well for the gameplay in ME4. The gameplay team would have learned more about their own game in a couple of months of multiplayer than in the entire previous development cycle for the mass effect trillogy.

Sounds like the next Mass Effect will have multiplayer, according to this job ad for QA Lead at Bioware Montreal:

ADDITIONAL SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE
• Familiar with major release first- and third-person shooter genre titles
• Avid gamer who regularly engages in multiplayer gameplay

I liked the MP in ME3. Sure, there was some tension when it was realised that you couldn't get the best ending without MP, but they fixed that with the EC. As for those saying that it was nothing more than a glorified horde mode, you're right. Only thing is, you had a massive variety of classes, powers, enemies, species, etc, that weren't possible in SP.

That is what made it fun and interesting. If they can retake those same elements of diversity, keep the Mass Effect feel, and add more modes (maybe even a co-op campaign with decisions!:)), I'd be all for it. I still want an excellent SP game, of course, but like others have said, the MP ressources wouldn't have gone to SP to make it better. Those ressources were created specifically for MP.

Nope. They've explained this numerous times.

The high-ups at Bioware and EA balance the game's budget with how much money they expect it to make. Multiplayer is a significant drawcard and so is allocated extra resources beyond what would be spent on singleplayer.

If you took away multiplayer, those resources (and developers) wouldn't be redirected to singleplayer - they wouldn't be spent at all. Bioware wouldn't have hired those people, or they would've been working on something else.

There's no single pool of zots that can either go to single or multiplayer. The budget of the game varies with how much is required for it to be profitable.

I like the multiplayer too, but I'd simply like it to not intrude upon the budget of the single player experience. Like I said earlier, I'd like to see it not affect what kind of N7/UNC missions there are (or whatever side missions will be called), but that they have their own exclusive direction and level design. Or do a little both. That works too. It's not like the ME3 side missions were bad either.

I've pointed this out elsewhere, but ME3 sales still haven't topped ME2 sales. It's not like they won a bunch of new players over for these changes. They're still dealing with the same basic fanbase.

Multiplayer does make them more money in other ways, though - people keep the discs around longer, and don't resell them. They're also more likely to buy DLC (ME3's DLC has been some of the best-selling of the entire series, apparently), and microtransactions from weapon and item packs make a bit of income too, though we obviously don't know how much. I think there's also an intangible benefit to having a long-lasting MP - it stays around in the general consciousness of gaming far longer than something which people play once and then forget about until the next game.

Beyond that, it's a reasonable request that the multiplayer doesn't 'intrude' on the singleplayer, but in practice maybe the process of developing them both at the same time actually had some positive outcomes. Overhauling the combat and enemy systems (by having some enemies require certain methods to take them down) was surely done to balance the MP and make it into a fun cooperative experience, and that allowed improvements for the SP too. There's a lot that can be criticised about something like Priority: Earth, but there's no guarantee that putting all of Montreal on it would've made it any better - at some point, the issue is the developer plan, not resources.

I doubt someone as important as Mike Gamble could be finalizing simple stuff like fan events, since that's more community then game developpement related. Fingers crossed for info on ME4 :)
