...this makes me sad. Was hoping for at least a scrap of concept art to agonize over and analyze every pixel of - at the very least :(

True enough, but it's worth mentioning that a lot of games are announced outside big events, it's very common for a game to be announced in Gameinformer, for example.  And I do believe DA:I was announced in a random day.

A lot of devs are tweeting really interesting behind the scenes bits of information about the design of ME3. There's no way to find them among the hundreds of other tweets that use the hashtag, but worth looking at Jos Hendriks ‏(@Sjosz) and Dave Feltham (‏@DaveFeltham), plus more that I can't remember.

(e.g. the spacewalk scene when boarding the Geth Dreadnought took 3-4 months to make, and was nearly cut because it was too difficult!)
