Based on recent tweets, it looks like they are at the stage that at least some parts of the game are in a playable state. This must mean that they have at least done all of the basic things, like a general outline of the story, characters, gameplay mecanics, etc.Though as Manveer Heir said, it's still a ways out. Nice to hear progress though

Well at least as far as the characters go, I asked this to Yanick Roy last week:
Quantum Enigma[/b]
@Quantum_Enigma

11 Dec

@YanickRRoy Fully aware you cant give specifics, but is there a new hero that has been agreed on and has some sort of identity for ME NEXT?And got this in response from him :

Yanick Roy[/b]

@Quantum_Enigma Yes, we have that :-)

Not really a big surprise (to me at least), but yeah progress is apparently being made haha

^ That's good news! But you could reduce the spacing between the lines.

Audio-visual event setup... so making sure screens, projectors, speakers, sound systems etc work okay during meetings and presentations.

(they might just keep someone on contract to do that stuff every now and then when Bioware schedule a large event?)

Thank you! :) it bugged me not knowing what he was talking about :P

It's... kinda baffling that one tweet generates seven pages of news stories, but there you go.

Honestly though, after playing milestone builds for ALL THREE of our games today, I feel I work for the best studio in the world.

Does that mean the new IP is playable also? Surely at some point they're going to have to start overlapping the marketing and announcements, with three games in development at the same time. I vaguely remember that ME2 came out only a few months after DA:O, and both seemed to do fine in terms of attention.

Don't get too excited on the gameplay thing. "Playing" for a dev might be nothing more thant just a 3D model walking in an empty space.

Probably is something like this:

Aaryn did mention that the next ME was "fun", which I would think means that there's at least some gameplay involved. We also saw environment and character models and concept art back in November, so I think they're probably further along than a grey blob running around in an empty black space...

But that being said, it almost certainly looks nothing like the finished product at this point - Manveer Heir pointed out that fans would freak out if they saw how unpolished things are while the game is still in development. The cinematics from the build of ME3 that leaked onto Xbox Live a few months before its launch, for example, were still missing a whole bunch of textures and even voice acting for minor characters.

You just have to look at a gameplay footage Bioware shown us back in 06 of ME, where we were supossed to take control of all characters during combat.

Even Shepard was not the same, galaxy exploration was not the same, etc.

Hell, even navigating the galaxy map itself wasn't even the same.

The interfaces in that footage have always been significantly sexier than what materialized in ME1.

Though it's impossible to prove one way or the other, I'm willing to bet Mass Effect: Whatever is in a more legitimately "playable" state than some here believe. Buggy and rough, but functional, more than just guided free cam walkthroughs.

Hm…reminds me greatly of the tactical command mode they are using for Dragon Age Inquisition...I won't lie; I'd rather enjoy it if that mode made its way back into the serise.

What's your problem with Hudson? He invented the whole ME universe. Basically its his love-child. Yeah, I know he had a whole team which worked under him, but still it was his vision. He was the mastermind behind it all. Yeah, I know that many here dislike the ending he wrote and directed, but sitll it's him who is the soul of the universe and the trilogy. Plus, I don't think that the ending was that bad. With the EC I find it quite good actually (and no less inconsistent or illogical than the whole saga already was). I find it a fitting ending for a grim and gritty sci-fi saga, but I don't mean to turn this thread into an never-ending ending s.tstorm.

I think he's the overseers of the project. I think he's more involved with the new IP that ME4.

He's still the Executive Producer of the series, and he basically came up with the idea for Mass Effect about ten years ago. Why wouldn't he be involved? He's also working on the new IP in the same position, so it's not likely that he'll be as hands on with the next Mass Effect as he was with the other games.

And ruined it with part 3 the 3 new episodes.
The cycle cannot be broken!

It's depressing to imagine how sorry your life must be if you dedicate such copious amounts of time to something you have such low expectations of.
