And look how rushed ME3 felt as a direct consequence of it's short "gestation" for want of a better word, the speed with which ME3 was released drew an awful lot of criticism, rightly so, i would hope BW have learnt from that & have decided to take their time & get things right for MENext, the last thing they need is another rushed game, especially if it comes hot on the heels of ME3.

ME3 never feels particularly rushed to me now. Pre-EC the ending was rightly infamous but I only see so many small-fry instances of what I would classify as rushing an unfinished product out the door in the many hours preceding the last one.

In any case, I agree there is likely a sense of taking a bit more time to iron out any wrinkles capable of going positively viral again. DA has been given time to (hopefully) address the major criticisms fans leveled at 2; NME (ha, I believe I've finally decided on how I'll reference it until further notice) likely has as well.

Especially when combined with everything else I pointed out, plus that recent dev tweet about how the focus is "getting it done right, not quickly." Which really could be said from any developer and was probably mentioned numerous times during previous title construction, but seems a fitting thing to say now.

Yeah, for the record, previous months between ME titles:

ME1 to ME2: 26 months
ME2 to ME3: 26 months

And of course, odds that NME repeats that? That'd peg it for this May. Man, that'd be something! Of course, it isn't happening. We're jumping into a very new experience and it's going to be almost twice as long before we see it.

Remember how long ME1 and (good grief) DA:O were in pre-production? :P

The way I see it, ME3 needed significant more time in development. Maybe it should even have been devided in part 1 and 2.

I mostly disagree, being that it's my favorite installment (just by inches mind you and mostly because it plays to a lot of my personal favorite elements) but I wouldn't have minded it being split. There's no such thing as too much development for something like the Reaper War. Ending the first game with Tuchanka and giving everything else to the follow-up would have provided so much breathing room for everything and maybe made it all so much more vital and enthralling.

But really, it was nightmare enough for the developers to make ME3 as-is. Plus there's the aging engine, turn toward a new console generation, potential for franchise fatigue from many gamers if they had to wait yet again for a conclusion. (Marketing is so much simpler when you can "promise" an end once and for all. That turns casual heads quite a bit.)

But discounting all the why-nots, like I said even with my generally beaming opinion of the game it wouldn't have been something I'd have ever complained about myself. I mean hell's bells, my favorite TV show had 170-odd episodes. I'm always OK with long.

I can see where the people arguing that NME will come in late 2015 are coming from, but I really can't agree based on the dev tweets so far. I said in my last post that I think we'll get a trailer of some sort at E3, and I think the game itself is being planned to ship in Q2 or 3 at the outside next year. I've said March 2015 before, but maybe that is being a little over optimistic.

We have Tweets which point to a (basic) playable build existing at Christmas time 2013, and now we're reading ones about dialogue writing for and around level design. It all points to solid and consistent progress being made. The dev team is large and well funded given ME3's financial success and the reputation ME has given Bioware overall. When you take that and the headstart DA:I development of Frostbite has given NME into account, you can see that 2013, 14, and a good chunk of 15 is plenty of time to develop, test, and release a game without it feeling rushed or unfinished to the player.

There were some instances, aside from the ending, where I thought the ME3 could have been better. But the Reaper war was HUGE. A galaxy wide conflict. It's hard to even imagine the scale of such a thing. The devs had to draw a line in the sand somewhere, otherise the game would have been so big and complex, it would have taken 10 years to develop and nearly as long to play enough times to experience all the possibilities. They didn't get the balance totally right for sure, but I'm impressed with the result they put out.

Hmm, from everything I've read the writing process has really only just recently begun in earnest. Given that BioWare development ethos eschews ideas of writing being a static component and ensures that it is an evolving mechanic utilized in virtually every period of development that signals to me they're still a long ways off.

i thought what they started recentely was to write dialogue lines but since some of those blurry pictures they showed last year were ingame I was thinking they must have done some writing before.

Neat, I'm going to that one. I'll have to ask her to do a combination of "Dr. Naomi Shepard" for me again; the first time was too funny.

Someone should probably inform whoever wrote her description page she did the voice in ME3, too, though. Unless the joke here is that the writer is ardently anti-ME3.

Edit: Clicked Twitter link... Guess it's just another social media fad... A daily photo journal.

Cookie Everman is an awesome writer and was a great editor on Mass Effect. I cannot wait to see what she does here.
