I did not. I am now no longer disappointed.

That might have absolutely nothing to do with Mass Effect, keep in mind. It's not unknown for Bioware writers to write their own novels.
I don't think that the head writer is going to be writing his own novel mid-way through development on the new game. He's probably way too busy actually writing the story and scripts and characters for the game.

I have no idea, BW Montreal advertised for one in 2012 and then again in 2013, so perhaps they were struggling to fill the position. The latest advertisement was in mid-2013, so it could've been filled for about a year.
There's a linkedin profile for a Bioware Lead Writer in Canada (who is not David Gaider or Mac Walters) but their account is hidden, so there's no way of knowing who it is.
I also think that pile of paper might've been one of Jay's side projects, since he has a few:
Writing some ideas down for a second story to the one I wrote during National Novel Writing Month. I miss the morning writing. Hmmm...

An official patent from the #masseffect dialog wheel. I think @YanickRRoy chose the colors.

Hard to tell, I'd be surprised if there was nothing this year.
I'm expecting E3, but everyone who guesses is just a random person on the internet - nobody knows for sure
I think Aaryn Flynn said late last year that we should expect info ''sometime in 2014''. So we are definitely getting something. The only question is when.
The 4 big dates that pop up into my mind are:
E3 (June)
PAX (August)
N7 Day (November)
VGX (December)

Huh... that dialogue wheel looks different than the one in the first 3 games. Maybe I'm just reading into everything too much these days but hey, I'm desperate.
edit: dated 2011 nevermind lol

Wait, what did they patent there?
Just the arrangement of choices in a circle or what?

Yes. It says right on it. GUI.

That's way too generic to patent.

Seemed to work for the US Patent Office ![]()
I remember reading the reason they do stuff like this is not necessarily to prevent other people from using similar UI, but just because Bioware's legal team say it's prudent to patent technology that's fundamental to their games. If another studio patented the same thing first and then tried to prevent Bioware from using it, that would be... problematic.
And with the number of patent trolls out there, I'm sure legal divisions at publishers and game studios are extra careful about not letting their IP or their proprietary technology fall into the wrong hands, or even be at risk of legal challenge.

Game Informer recently tweeted a link to an article of theirs' that details a listing of Xbox One and PS4 versions of the Mass Effect Trilogy box set. I apoloise for this not being strictly Twitter related, but I thought you lot would appreciate hearing about it. Here's the link - http://www.gameinfor...campaign=buffer
There were also a couple of recent tweets by Twitter use shinobi602 (who I think reads this thread!) that might've hinted at an unveiling of Mass Effect Next at E3. The tweets are spread out over a day and they don't mention ME by name, but he's been correct in the past with inside information.
(It's still very much a rumour at this point, but people were asking about the likelihood of seeing something at E3, above)

No it isn't. Not in the way it is described there.
However, it *is* generic enough to rip off without automatically getting in trouble for it. Even a few slight alterations and you're good. What shouldn't be done by others is the outright 'Bioware dialogue wheel' as we understand it in the Mass Effect and now Dragon Age games.
Patents can be a tricky thing anyway.

^ Yep basically this. It's not to clamp down on legit games, but to stop others from either doing a total copypaste, or from going against Bioware itself.

I'm not a lawyer but was under the distinct impression a patent could not be gained unless you were the inventor. There is no way another company could patent the dialogue wheel after Bioware demonstrated it. This move is to stop others from doing the same (without permission) rather than to simply allow themselves to keep using it.

I just saw some tweet saying that he thinks there's a 50/50 chance of seeing something ME related at E3. If there is more I'd like to see it as well.
